They are and we better destroy them. The CFP does not matter right now. All that matters is ULL!appstatealum wrote: ↑Wed Dec 04, 2019 1:15 amULL should be looking at us like pit bulls who just got kicked in the nuts.....these boys are going to come out with intent to destroy.

When Cincy loses again to Memphis on Saturday, come Tuesday they won't be top 20. Should we beat Laffy, we are in the top 20, Quite an accomplishment.ericsaid wrote: ↑Wed Dec 04, 2019 12:27 amCan everyone not be proud of the team and irritated at the committee's unwillingness to show any backbone here? Very proud of those kids!

Re: CFP New
Hey AppStFan1, lets all be clear about a few things. #1. All G5 teams have similar quality players.... for the 2020 class there were 2 four star players in all the G5......in 2019 I think one for all G5. G5 players are by in large all 3 star players or below. Besides their respective athletic budgets, this is what makes up the 60 team G5. Most of Memphis’s, Cincy’s, Boise’s, App’s and all the rest of the players of all the teams that constitute the G5 will never play a down in the NFL. This is why we are all similar. Virtually any P5 (with the exception of the Vandy’s, Wake’s, and the low end of P5.... the bottom 20) have significant advantages budgetary and athletic over the G5. This is why the 2P5 wins in the same year matters. It just doesn’t happen. Where a G5 team beats P5 twice in the same year. The last time it happened was 2013. And two out of the three major polls recognized this fact. Unfortunately for us, the one matters didn’t recognize it. I do agree that we are new to the party and the others are not. This clearly has had an effect. We have knocked on the door.... next time we will kick the eff...ing door down! Finally, while we have been nickpikky here, I’m so very proud of this team for all they have done this season. All the hurdles they have overcome. This is by far one of the best App teams in our history.

SBC Commish Gill finally spoke to the Athletic...
"we're going to go out, we're going to play the games that we have," Gill said before the latest ranking were released. "We're not going to do a bunch of talking. We're not going to disparage other conferences and other opponents. We're not going to try and argue we've got the best 3-8 team in the nation. We're going to to just go out and play football and see where it falls.
After the rankings were released Tuesday night, Gill wrote in a text message: "I am disappointed that Appalachian State is not ranked higher. They are 11-1, 6-0 on the road, the only Group of 5 team to beat two Autonomy 5 teams on the road, and I believe that their body of work deserves more respect."
Why not bring all those things up before the poll is released, it didn't disparage anyone only pointing out App's successes? This is unfortunate.

Gee, glad he could poke his head out of the ground long enough to explain that he's NOT going to advocate for the members of his conference. Thanks commish!

Not sure where you got this stat. This year alone, Temple and Hawaii beat two P5s each. Certainly there have been others since 2013.

Re: CFP New
Quite the accomplishment, yes. The players wanted to include the NY6 as a goal for the season but Drinkwitz primary, and only goal listed, was to win the conference. This makes sense because you can't control what the committee thinks about you and the perception of the Sun Belt isn't favorable enough to justify placing that kind of pressure on the team and their goals. However, this is what the players ultimately wanted and you have to assume that they are still paying attention.Black Saturday wrote: ↑Wed Dec 04, 2019 6:25 amWhen Cincy loses again to Memphis on Saturday, come Tuesday they won't be top 20. Cincy lost to Memphis last week and didn't look good doing so. They didn't look any better than SMU who happened to lose to Navy, who Cincinnati avoided. SMU is not ranked.
App's primary hope for the Cotton Bowl lay in being ranked ahead of Cincinnati and just behind Boise and Memphis going in to this weekend. While it could still be possible - should App win by 40 (not going to happen), Cincinnati win a close game, and Boise win a close game or lose - this all but shut the door on the players goal that wasn't included in the official team goals for the season.
Also of note, I remember during the championship run of the mid-2000's when the teams goals included week to week goals, conference championship, National Championship. Those goals were officially included with what the team was striving for. Obviously a different situation with the ability to settle it on the field rather than a boardroom full of P5 Program CEO's, but the point remains. If the players wanted this as a goal, they are likely disappointed in how the rankings came out as well.

I feel like some rendition of this statement has been repeated a few times even by App's own athletic department.EastHallApp wrote: ↑Wed Dec 04, 2019 9:53 amNot sure where you got this stat. This year alone, Temple and Hawaii beat two P5s each. Certainly there have been others since 2013.
That said, Temple beat Georgia Tech **gasp** and Maryland **double gasp**, then they beat Memphis.
If only App's out of conference schedule could include Maryland and Georgia Tech year in and year out. But no, there has to be Wisconsin, Texas A&M, Clemson, Georgia, etc. Cincinnati deserves some credit for having Ohio State on their schedule. Most of the AAC and MWC doesn't have to play the southern P5 contenders. They will claim it's because the SEC is afraid to schedule them when the reality is that the AAC sees themselves as P6 and apparently the CFP Committee does too.
They are being given an auto-bid to NY6. Their inability to drop Cincinnati, despite close calls to ECU, USF, Temple, and Tulsa. SMU was hurt in the polls by close games to Tulsa and ECU and also played Navy. Their best win is against UCF, who is a quality team but seems to be struggling with consistency as often happens when starting a freshman QB.
I'm really struggling to understand the rationale here other than they are positioning the teams to ensure that either Boise State or Memphis goes to Dallas.

For the Cartel 5 handlers in the boardroom, you have to stump. I understand this commissioner hasn't been in the Sun Belt for long and hasn't been in this position to politik for your member schools, but it is a requirement now. No one is going to do it for you. The Sun Belt still has a perception problem that can only be changed by results, and shouting those results from the highest room in the tallest tower. No one is going to look at them if they don't care to look. You must bring the results of the Sun Belt's work to the people. App gets on national TV, tweet about your disappointment to ESPN, text ESPN, text whomever with associated factoids to aid in proving your point.
Many here won't like that I'm saying this, "keep your nose down and good things will happen". That's true for longer range goals, but the future for 2019 is now. There is no going back in time to change anyones mind. There are only those people in a room and your ability to transmit information, instantly, from the platform that you hold, for the schools that you represent.
Now go beat the snot out of Louisiana and give the committee something to consider on December 8th.

I agree we shouldn't have to tear down other G5 conferences to make ourselves look better. We are all in this together. However, sometimes we have to defend ourselves. No one else is going to do it....

Re: CFP New
We don't have to tear other down to build ourselves up. Talk about the two P5 wins, the only FBS program to be 6-0 on the road. While you're at pump up ULL and the match up this weekend, those teams are 11-0 on the road this year, both receiving votes. The conference has 4 P5 wins this year, an OOC record above .500, etc.

So time for some speculation. Our win over UL should because better win than Boise over Hawaii. We should be ranked higher. Cincy wins, maybe...they are a 2 loss even though they beat ranked Memphis? I think the final ranking will be more interesting than we think as long as Cincinnati can pull it off.

ESPN has a graphic up at the end of our game/start of the AAC and MWC games of “G5 teams in the hunt for the NY6”.Yosefus wrote: ↑Sat Dec 07, 2019 6:08 pmSo time for some speculation. It was Boise, Cincy and Memphis only.
I do not see any situation where we leap frog them. The Cotton Bowl ship has sailed.
As a result, I’m cheering for Memphis. That would guarantee Cincy drops beneath us and we are at WORST, 20th for the bowl game.
I’m not so certain that Memphis falls beneath us if they lose to Cincy.

Re: CFP New
For us to have any shot at jumping any winning teams ahead of us, we needed to make a statement with margin of victory. We looked like we were going to, but the final score didn’t wind up that way.
And Boise is crushing Hawaii.
