Got to applaud the effort but we lack the talent to beat a team like State. DK has got to recruit some guys who can shoot. Williams should never take another 3. Though, I'm sure he'll hit a game winner at some point but it wasnt today.
The good news is we won't face Funderburk in the Belt.

This team is so far ahead of schedule than what I was expecting coming into the year. This team competes every game, we haven't had any games were our doors have been blown off(I thought Michigan was, but that was a hell of a comeback). Every team we have lost to has a legitimate chance at the tourney (UNCG and ETSU are the class of the Southern) and we have beat everyone else. I think these guys are gaining confidence and realizing that they belong on the court with the other team. Over the past 5 years you couldn't say that about our team. The wins will come, I love the heart and effort these guys play with!

A decent effort against a deep and experienced ACC squad but you simply can't win when you shoot 37% from the floor and loose the rebounding battle by *gulp* 19 boards.
Gotta be concerned about Isaac after that mid-air collision with Bates and about the late shot Justin took to the jaw from Funderburk's elbow. Would hate to go against Ga State Thurs. night w/o either of them.

Went toe to toe with an ACC team on the road. They got the benefit of the vast majority of the close calls. We missed some good looks and timely free throws. There isn’t a player on our roster State would have recruited but I think we have a good team. I haven’t been able to say that in years. And years.

It's an improvement. I didn't watch the game but listened to it on the radio and it seemed that we hung with them. Basketball has been in the ditch for almost 20 years, hopefully we're on the right path now.

Re: MBB: App State @ NC State 4 PM PNC Arena TV/ACC Network
State was able to close out on shooters and stay in front of our guards all night - that’s a hard combo to beat.
I haven’t seen a team with as active of hands as they had. Hats off to them. We played a competitive game, but their defense disrupted the flow of our offense and forced us into contested shots. A few mini runs capitalizing on consecutive turnovers did it in for us.
Overall this team is making great strides, but as a poster mentioned earlier there is still a good bit of Fox left in this team. If we continue to keep up the defensive intensity and make the extra pass, I could see a 13 win + conference showing.

Finally, theses last posts are supportive. Seem like to many negative, snide remarks about individual players. We really don’t have any basketball tradition. Been watching and hoping for over 50 years and it has been only on occasional times we have produced competitive teams. HOWEVER, this team has shown itself to have great potential! If we could shoot free throws at a better rate we could win even more games! Free throw shooting can be coached!

There can be a difference between negative and realistic. I think everyone is excited by the performance of the team to date. They are fun to watch because they put in such effort and play tough defense. We still have too many offensive deficiencies like poor free throw shooting and poor outside shooting. Too often as in the past, we have relied on one person to do the bulk of the scoring. That was too evident yesterday. However, given what Kerns has this team doing thus far, there is promise that we can be a contender in the Belt this year. This is a huge upcoming home stand that propel us in that direction.shortfatoldapp wrote: ↑Mon Dec 30, 2019 7:23 amFinally, theses last posts are supportive. Attended the game last night, PNC is a nightmare to get into and out of. Really makes me appreciate how easy it is to attend Hornets games at Spectrum.
I'm happy with how the team played, had we been able to finish on half of our missed interior shots we walk out of there with a win since State was also shooting poorly. Officiating definitely leaned in favor of their ACC boys but you kinda expect that, however it doesn't make it any less annoying.

Attending game also. Defense effort is far better than last few years. If we could have made 2 or 3 more 3's we would have been right there. We are definitely better than last year. We can beat anyone in Sun Belt. Hope we can win next 3 home games, Thur, Sat, & Mon. it is all positive so far. GO APPS

Be it football, basketball, etc., when you play an ACC team you'll always have to beat the refs as well as the team you're playing every time.Overcashed wrote: ↑Mon Dec 30, 2019 9:19 amOfficiating definitely leaned in favor of their ACC boys but you kinda expect that, however it doesn't make it any less annoying.

Dustin can coach. Sum will always be greater than the parts with him in charge, and once he gets a few recruiting classes in here, we'll be winning the Sun Belt. Damn good coach.

ACC refs hate NC State. Remember Karl Hess? Jamie Lucky is one of his cronies. If they made bad calls, it’s not because they favored NC State, it’s because they are terrible refs. State’s defense is what won the game for them, but our defense kept us in it.WataugaMan wrote: ↑Mon Dec 30, 2019 10:07 amBe it football, basketball, etc., when you play an ACC team you'll always have to beat the refs as well as the team you're playing every time.Overcashed wrote: ↑Mon Dec 30, 2019 9:19 amOfficiating definitely leaned in favor of their ACC boys but you kinda expect that, however it doesn't make it any less annoying.

Yep, I was talking about him as a possibility at App a few months before the hire after I noticed the ncaa stat rankings for tiny PC and what he had done there in a very short time, mostly with players that didn’t have other d1 offers. Was also much more excited about a guy with a wofford/Mike Young connection than the previous McKillop/Davidson connection.

If you had told me last year at this time that we would be 8-5 now with the noticeable improvements we have shown so far this season, I would probably have eaten my hat.
Fox inherited a dumpster fire after Capel, and the team showed some signs of improvement from that up until his last season.
Kerns has taken what was left from Fox and really turned things around. There will still be some growing pains and some tough losses, but he’s got the ship afloat and sailing in the right direction.
I’m behind the Coach and Team 100%. It’s the first time we’ve had a reason to be really excited about App State Basketball since the days of he whose name I shall not speak.

Make no mistake, the next three games on the schedule can make the App men real favs to win the Belt or leave them hanging on by the "skin-of-their-teeth." The Apps are presently unbeaten in SBC play with three other potential favs facing us at HCC Thurs, Sat and Mon. Three wins by the good guys would leave the SBC in shock. Welcome to The High Country--Ga State, Ga Stink and La Creoles!
