Garrett Riley to be OC
Pete Thamel tweeted that Garrett Riley will be elevated to OC and play caller. Thoughts?

Love it! This was the right move by Clark to keep a young, rising star on staff. Excited to see where he can take our stacked offense for 2020.Lowcountry App wrote: ↑Fri Jan 03, 2020 8:53 pmPete Thamel tweeted that Garrett Riley will be elevated to OC and play caller. Thoughts?

Good hire. Keeps some outside influence in high position and good mix of App and outside overall along with Washington, Stewart and Roof. Gas, Watts, Jones have lot of time in Boone to keep culture.

i think this is a solid hire to put it mildly. I think there might be a few playcalling growing pains that Riley will go through as a new OC BUT I dont forsee a drop off in our offensive production. It will be interesting to see how well he does with clock management.

Agree. Should be a good hire. Would assume game/time management is a Head Coach Shawn Clark responsibility. #Trusttheballcapncman071 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 03, 2020 10:04 pmi think this is a solid hire to put it mildly. Re: Garrett Riley to be OC
Seems to be. Not sure if DC, Co-DC or if one of those associate or assistant HC titles will accompany his position group OLB or ILB. His HC experience is not that good from result perspective but does bring some value to a new HC and OC now. Jones will also get a Co or AHC title, some of that is waiting on other decisions and hires as each has a payscale or ranking in the payscale.ericsaid wrote: ↑Fri Jan 03, 2020 10:54 pmDo we know if Roof is staying?Appalachman wrote: ↑Fri Jan 03, 2020 9:53 pmGood hire. Re: Garrett Riley to be OC
I wasn’t a big fan of his playcalling fluidity during the bowl game, but it was his first, so....
But the kids really like him, so if they believe, I guess I will too.
I’m not hearing squat about Roof, but I know calls have been made to different guys, so maybe he won’t be DC.

I thought the same thing but I’m sure getting down 0-14 changed the way we called the plays.appstatealum wrote: ↑Fri Jan 03, 2020 11:09 pmI wasn’t a big fan of his playcalling fluidity during the bowl game, but it was his first, so....

I’ve heard players rave about Riley and say he’s a genius. This is a phenomenal move by Clark

Hope the remaining hires can flat out recruit better than our competition. We have huge recruiting classes the next two years.

Re: Garrett Riley to be OC
We have a veteran Offense next season that should be able to play through some inexperienced play calling. The upside with this promotion is very positive. He is a sharp, young Coach. Hoping we can keep Coach Roof as DC.

My first thought is how did Pete Thamel get this scoop instead of Ethan Joyce. LOL
I think Riley is the obvious choice that most folks expected. I think he will do a great job.

I think Ethan probably knows this stuff at the same time as some of the other journalists out there, but doesn't break it until the school confirms that he is able to do so.

Re: Garrett Riley to be OC
I'm sure that's true. I think Ethan always waits until he has confirmed his facts and gets the "green light" to go public. That was kind of the point I was making in a joking way. Kind of hate that Ethan didn't get to break this news.BeauFoster wrote: ↑Mon Jan 06, 2020 9:27 amI think Ethan probably knows this stuff at the same time as some of the other journalists out there, but doesn't break it until the school confirms that he is able to do so.

Re: Garrett Riley to be OC
I have absolutely zero knowledge of anything behind the scenes but it’s starting to feel pretty similar to the Ken Dorsey situation. Right now I’m going to be a little surprised if he’s ever announced as OC.
