He is like Ray Tanner in that he is over his head. He made an emotional decision to keep the HC after the win over Ole Miss when he was never a good fit and the team had no structure. It is a bad lockerroom to walk in to. They need to change culture big time. Listen to their AD talk. You can tell he is like Ray Tanner and makes some really dumb decisions. He did not want to fire Moorhead. He was forced to because of the lack of institutional control that had come to light.AppyVanWinkle wrote: ↑Mon Jan 06, 2020 2:58 pmI'm curious as to why the general consensus (nationwide) seems to be that MSU is a “dumpster fire” job and that the AD (John Cohen) is handling the situation so poorly?AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 06, 2020 10:55 amMSU's AD is awful and he is screwing it up badly. Don’t look so smart this morning. Very surprised with this announcement.
Now, if South Carolina struggles next year and they fire the AD Tanner and HC Muschamp then I would jump on the job if I'm Napier. He would come back home and get to coach in the SEC. I am pretty sure he is thinking that job will be open and he will be courted for it.
Over the past ten years, MSU has gone 79-51 (37-43 playing in SEC West) with bowl appearances in each year since 2010 and spent several weeks ranked #1 in the nation in 2014. On the flipside, South Carolina has virtually the same record (78-51 overall; 42-38 SEC) in a much weaker division over the same time period, including two seasons in which they went 4-8 and 3-9.
MSU has the facilities needed to be competitive with roughly 2/3 of the SEC, with the exception of the upper echelon programs (e.g. Bama, LSU, Auburn, etc.) and recently expanded their stadium (w/end zone facility) with further stadium renovations planned. MSU has also put a number of players in the NFL over the past 10 years as well (including several first round picks as well as Dak Prescott and some others who went in later rounds but have found success such as Benardrick McKinney and K.J. Wright).
Granted, firing Moorhead after two seasons isn’t necessarily a good look, but numerous off-the-field issues and his disparaging remarks about the fanbase at times throughout the season are what primarily fueled the administration’s decision to ultimately let him go (not his overall W-L record). Moorhead’s initial hiring at MSU was praised by the national media as he had just come off of back-to-back National Coordinator of the Year awards at Penn State, so I don’t think his initial hire reflects poorly on the MSU administration.
Nevertheless, there seems to be some buzz swirling online that Napier may be holding out to see where Matt Rhule ends up, given that he apparently has a couple of NFL interviews lined up. Baylor undoubtedly has deep pockets and obviously the pathway to success at Baylor in the Big 12 is going to be easier than it would be in the SEC.
We are in need of someone to take over the maintenance of the MMB. Yosef has done it for a long time, and we are grateful for all he has done, but life happens and he no longer has the time to devote to its upkeep. If anyone here is interested in helping to keep the board running, please let me know via DM.

South Carolina is where coaches go to die, so I don't know why anyone would ever want to go there.AppyVanWinkle wrote: ↑Mon Jan 06, 2020 2:58 pmI'm curious as to why the general consensus (nationwide) seems to be that MSU is a “dumpster fire” job and that the AD (John Cohen) is handling the situation so poorly?AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 06, 2020 10:55 amMSU's AD is awful and he is screwing it up badly. Seriously, the last coach to leave South Carolina and eventually get another head coaching job was SPARKY WOODS.

Re: Billy Napier
Tweet from Bruce Feldman that furthers proves my point about the MSU job right now.
SOURCE: Former Auburn HC Gene Chizik interviewed with Miss. State for its head coaching vacancy on Saturday. The next morning Chizik removed himself as a candidate... Wouldn't be surprised if Chizik returns to coaching, just has to be an ideal fit.

Re: Billy Napier
Joe Judge, a Miss State alumni, interviewed with the NY Giants and I'm told by a coaching connection that he killed the interview. They may pursue him now.
Both places are bad situations but Judge is a ST coach so a HC job is a big pay jump. MSU has the awful AD while NYG's GM Dave Gettleman is a big issue for them. They call it the DG Effect in NFL circles. Turns people off, treats people awful, and is very full of himself. It will be interesting to see what happens in both places.
I would think Joe Judge would lean to the Giants because it is a NFL job and Bill loves them so he would tell him to go there. If Judge goes to Miss State then that tells me that Gettleman truly screwed that up big time.
If they don't get Joe Judge keep an eye out for the Cowboys DC Richard. He interviewed and did really well. People like him. They are interviewing Jason Garrett to be OC. That would be interesting for when they play the Cowboys next year.

Well I guess Judge indeed did kill the interview. He is a Giant now. Mississippi State now back to square one.

I had not heard a word about who the backup plan was. I know Finebaum said yesterday that he had the inside track. It will be interesting to see who pops up.

Back to Napier...it'd be smart and respectful if he asked our advice on any job opportunities...after all...we are his "daddy."

Looks like Billy will be "Going For 2" more losses against APP in 2020 since Miss St has hired Leach.

A win is a win, but two seven(7) point games, the Cajuns are closing the gap. Napier, will be out of there one day but it will be for the "right" job. I've heard that his extension included a significant bump.
In other news, we would have given LSU a better game than Okla.!!!!!
