LOL, right, as opposed to all those coaches who’ve won multiple titles with no first rounders on the roster.

Re: UNC - Coach Williams Translation
how many players were drafted from their 17 national championship team? 2, I had to look at Wikipedia. I get the unc hate but Roy is a solid coach and I wish App would play more of his style of ball. Passing and plays crate the shot, Not individual skill and the 3 should be relied on sparingly.

Sell outs or not, the coach shouldn't be sh!tting over the young men which HE recruited and saying they lack talent. It might be the truth but he shouldn't be saying that about them in public.ericsaid wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2020 10:40 pmCloset UNC fan? Sweet. I guess my App degree and years of basketball band in the convo center are nullified. A lot of my family went to UNC and Weirdly we have watched Just as many Appalachian Sporting events as a family as we have UNC since I started at App. When I was doing my internship on the west coast and unc made their last title run, I throughly enjoyed watching the games and having phone calls with my brother and grandmother afterwards. My blue blooded grandmother called me after the UNC App game to tell me how excited she was for App and what they could do this past season. Overall I’m indifferent to all things blue in the state of NC but the difference is my family and I don’t have giant splintery sticks up our a##es when it comes to pulling for each other’s schools.

I'm sure BTK2K doesn't need to be lectured on App fandom by an ECU grad.

For years I have thought Williams was overrated as a coach. BUT he must be pretty good. That being said I still HATE everything Cheat - athletically, academically and politically!

We'll dadgum bygolly. It is harder to win when my kids have to be in class instead of on the court.

Roy is a really good coach. You can't win all of those games by accident. I do wonder about the stuff he says sometimes. This time he is probably trying to stir his guys up and motivate them otherwise to say that stuff in public could only mean:
1. He has lost his mind
2. He hasn't lose his mind he is just being an A hole.
3. Just trying to publicly motivate?????
4. Who the heck knows by golly.

Re: UNC - Coach Williams Translation
I am a proud App Alum, Yosef Club member, and Season ticket holder. I went to almost every home basketball game as a student as well as the conference tournament my junior and senior year. I say that to say that I have a lot of ties to and grew up loving UNC. When I went to App, the Mountaineers became my #1 team but I have always cheered for UNC as well, and in the few situations we have played each other obviously I've cheered for App. I'm an App Die Hard but a Carolina fan, question it if you want but I genuinely don't care.
Having said all of that, Roy Williams is one of the best basketball coaches of our time. It requires good players to run good schemes and while I don't think he should have said anything publicly, saying he's "The most over-rated coach of all time" makes you sound like a whiny Carolina fan after losing to us during football season. Be better.

Re: UNC - Coach Williams Translation
I don't care for UNC in any way but Ol Roy is a good coach, a very good coach. If you look at his best teams he has always had a great point guard who moved the ball up the court very quickly and created many easy baskets for teammates. He wins one type of way - uptempo --- How many times have you seen UNC win big games which become half-court battles? - In comparison, Coach K has won with all kinds of different sets - Big guys (Elton Brand, Laettner,Boozer Okafor), he has won with 1 and dones (2015 - Jones, Okafor, Winslow) - he has won with great point guards (Hurley, Amaker, Williams, Jones) - no point guard (Scheyer, Nolan Smith), with experienced teams (1990-1993) with talent laden teams (1991-2, 2001) average talent/very experienced (2010) and very young (2015). Yes, I believe Coach is a much better coach than Roy but that is not to say that Roy isn't a very good coach - he is...

Roy is not only an idiot, but an asshole. Oh, and I forgot, a cheat. By the way Roy, you recruited those kids, so your failure is on you. Aside from all that, he is a really good coach.

Re: UNC - Coach Williams Translation
I have absolutely zero use for UNC but I don't "hate" the entire institution. I do hate specific things about them. Most notably, the academic cheating scandal and the way it was handled is an embarrassment to the state and the fact that they've had little consequence (other than the $18 million paid in legal fees) is a travesty! I do hate their obnoxious fans but I have to admit that their basketball team has earned some bragging rights (sans the cheating issue). I hate the condescending attitudes of SOME of their fans towards App. That said, I've known a lot of very good people from UNC and I enjoy good natured banter between programs. Some folks just get a little overly intense about these things.

Let's take UNC out of the equation for a minute. How would you all feel if a coach of any of our teams did this? Personally I find it more likely to be destructive than constructive, not only to the role of a coach as a mentor to his or her players, but to future recruiting efforts as well.

I completely agree that scapegoating the players publically is a shabby thing to do.Appstrong wrote: ↑Wed Jan 08, 2020 10:13 amLet's take UNC out of the equation for a minute.
