New special teams coordinator Erik Link agreed to a two-year deal and nearly triples his 2019 salary to $425,000 ($300,000 base plus $125,000). Link made $120,000 in the same role under Drinkwitz at Appalachian State season.
New defensive assistant Charlie Harbison landed a two-year deal with a full salary of $415,000 ($300,000 base plus $115,000). Harbison made $90,000 last year at Appalachian State. That’s an increase of 361 percent.
New defensive assistant D.J. Smith agreed to a two-year deal and also nearly quadrupled his salary to $350,000 ($300,000 base plus $50,000). Smith also made $90,000 last year at Appalachian State**

Can't really blame any of them.
Would love to get Smith back at some point but $300k for a position coach is probably almost a coordinator position pay at App.

That's awesome for all those guys! They definitely earned those pay raises! I personally so proud of DJ and all that he has accomplished as a player, coach and most importantly a person. He is a great ambassador for our Institution and program. I will be keeping a close eye on his career and holding out hope for his return to the Mountain!ClickClackApp wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2020 1:19 pmQuote from this article:

Here's the funny part. Clark has a base of 605k per year (425k+15k per month). Those numbers are insane.

I think Clark's salary comes out closer to $750K based on his contract, but I can't remember what the other part was for. The point is still valid though. I know you've got the base plus retention bonus.

I'll try again on this thread. I thought the plan all along was that we were grooming gas for DC. Does anyone know why he was not retained in that capacity?AppStateNews wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2020 1:48 pmYes, Gaspo is goneApple@chin1 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2020 1:13 pmOlder article. I did the rundown in a different thread. I forgot the media royalties of $145k in this post.Yosef84 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2020 2:07 pmVNova wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2020 1:28 pm"Want to do the same thing, but make 3-4x more while doing it?"ClickClackApp wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2020 1:19 pmQuote from this article:

Re: Who stays, who goes?
Pretty sure it had nothing to do with being retained. He was offered a job at Army & took it. Army pretty much operates on a P5 budget. Their salary pool might not match that of a Mizzou, but it's definitely higher than App's.MtnMan09 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2020 2:40 pmI'll try again on this thread. Money talks, & it's an opportunity to work with the man who helped him further his career in the first place, Nate Woody.

Re: Who stays, who goes?
Gas has a free will and if he chose to leave, there's not much we can do about that. I don't know if he was "being groomed" or not, other than what I've read on this board. I assume it's pretty simple. He got a better offer.MtnMan09 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2020 2:40 pmI'll try again on this thread. I thought the plan all along was that we were grooming gas for DC. Re: Who stays, who goes?
My understanding is Jones and Gaspo were going to be co-DC. However, when Gaspo's mentor called and was able to offer more $ to be a position coach, he took the opportunity. I believe if it wasn't Woody that called, Gaspo wouldn't have taken it. He's had multiple offers for more pay and stayed. It's just a different situation when your mentor calls.

Last year, many were worried about maintaining and preserving the culture. This year many are saying, we have too many who are imbedded in the culture, we need fresh ideas from the outside

And yet...
Last year, we retained four coaches from the previous staff.
This year we’ve retained/promoted three, plus brought back Jones after one year away.

This probably needs to be a thread of its own in another section of the cabin, but, I think it's somewhat within context here.
As we expected, DJ and others got a nice little/giant bump in pay.

Re: Who stays, who goes?
Are these other P5 schools just way overboard with coaching salaries, particularly the ones who are basically .500 schools most every year or is App just really low with what we pay? Where do we rank with a coaching ROI?

Re: Who stays, who goes?
Exactly. App’s salary is one of the lower for G5’s especially relative to performance.
The only things most P5s consistently have is $$. Larger payouts due to conference affiliations , bigger media market, and just to be honest, better financial support top to bottom than App has.
Without researching, I cannot even remember a time when Missouri was even relevant. I saw where Drinks salary pool was over $4 million, whereas Apps was just barely over $1 million.
We all need to do better with financial support of App and encourage those we know to donate who aren’t.
There is no excuse for places like ga southern to be able to out-bid us for coaches we are trying to hire from them.

Re: Who stays, who goes?
If Missouri played every home game in an empty stadium and got zero alumni money they would probably have more $$ than App with our current situation due to the SEC affiliation, shared bowl and TV revenue. This statement is a little far fetched no doubt but probably not too far from the truth. The Rock wrote: ↑Mon Jan 20, 2020 10:44 am

It is the truth with SEC programs getting over $40m just from their tv/media deal!bigdaddyg wrote: ↑Mon Jan 20, 2020 10:55 amIf Missouri played every home game in an empty stadium and got zero alumni money they would probably have more $$ than App with our current situation due to the SEC affiliation, shared bowl and TV revenue. "For the 2018 fiscal year, the SEC reported total revenue of $627 million, with each of the conference's 14 schools receiving a payout of $43.1 million. The new ESPN/ABC TV contract could increase the annual payout for each school by nearly $20 million per year, according to the SBJ report."
