For our 25th we took the Crescent and with the late arrival into Greensboro we got to our sleeper in the dark and watched the sun rise as we crossed the bridge over Cone Blvd a few blocks north. We had a derailment as well under Union Station in DC and it was still a fun trip. Of course having a sleeper is a bit more fun with the wife than taking coach.AppfaninCAALand wrote: ↑Fri Jan 24, 2020 12:35 pmJust a heads up, the Crescent has a notoriously late service record - though a 3 hour delay might make its schedule MORE convenient for the game.McLeansvilleAppFan wrote: ↑Fri Jan 24, 2020 11:48 amI mentioned Amtrak in the other thread that was deleted.

Are you referring to the A-Sun news and the possibility of a new east coast conference?spacemonkey wrote: ↑Fri Jan 24, 2020 9:44 pmIf some of the rumors of the new conference Liberty is trying to create are true, you better find a way to enjoy watching Liberty every year.
If we end up 10 years from now in a conference with North Alabama, Liberty, Coastal Carolina, JMU and Georgia Southern...we might as well have just never moved up in the first place.

Re: Liberty series
I really can't imagine a scenario where Liberty wants to be in a conference of 20, a merged conference with a decreased profile (as a whole) while Liberty is spending mega-bucks to expand their athletics programs at warp speed. It just doesn't make financial sense. Liberty trying to step up its efforts to find a true G5 conference home probably just became a mad rush. It also wouldn't shock me, based on some of the things I've heard, if Liberty seeks to become a broker and the school that really drives a new regional-based G5 conference...one like we've all been hearing about for so long now. Liberty has the resources to basically play "daddy" for a lot of schools and buy them out of their existing conference homes and even bankroll the startup of the new league. For good or for bad it really wouldn't surprise me to see LU put some of that endowment on the line and try to make this deal happen now that they've sort of been handed a mandate by the A-Sun.ah59396 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2020 4:30 pmAre you referring to the A-Sun news and the possibility of a new east coast conference?spacemonkey wrote: ↑Fri Jan 24, 2020 9:44 pmIf some of the rumors of the new conference Liberty is trying to create are true, you better find a way to enjoy watching Liberty every year.

I can’t believe people have such strong feelings about this. It literally has not one affect on any of our lives. It’s a football game between kids who just want to play the game. All the rest of this grandstanding and high horsing is absurd

This would basically be a modern SOCON in my opinion. A pile of G5 teams surviving on old success and a bunch of FCS-FBS startups that have yet to do a thing.
Meanwhile we are one of the hottest G5 names in the country being mentioned with Boise, Memphis and UCF. Seems like it’d be our nail in the coffin for any hope at something greater. Though admittedly I’m not sure what avenue exists for that greater thing.
If the AAC adds Boise, it’ll murder the MWC hopes of being a power and the AWC will officially become a “P6”. The rest of us will be forever stuck in the middle tier of irrelevance.

If it doesn't, at the least, include ECU, it'll have to be something mighty special to get me excited about leaving our current situation for something more regional.ah59396 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 26, 2020 2:34 amThis would basically be a modern SOCON in my opinion. Re: Liberty series
I am OK with regional as long as we still have the flexibility with the schedule to win big games. I wish in the next CFP we dropped the NY6 bowl game and created an NIT for 8 teams that were willing to participate. This NIT would be Highest rated 8 teams willing to participate. Maybe it is the 3rd place team from the ACC, 4th place team from SEC.
AND THEN the highest rated 8 teams from G5 not making either of the first two playoff scenario's.

I agree with you. It's just a football game. Plus they did beat Georgia Southern pretty easy this past season. Not sure why others are in shock about us playing them. ULL played them this year and ULM will play them next year. I like it because it's a short drive to watch App State play.Seattleapp wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2020 10:29 pmI can’t believe people have such strong feelings about this. I'd rather it be a F_U or U_F school. Some oddball H&H games akin to Fresno that I wish we had include SDSU or TCU, but I digress.
Good for travel costs, but I'm not seeing any other benefits.

I don't think its a shock. Just some folks aren't pleased about it. I, for one, am not happy about it but not at all surprised by it. I figured at some point we would wind up scheduling them.AppState89 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 28, 2020 12:34 pmI agree with you. It's just a football game. I am curious as to who it is that is " scared" to play us.

The ADs that feel pressure from their fanbase scheduling a high risk, minimal reward game. I got so many texts from SC fans two years ago when that game was scheduled, I can only imagine what their AD received.

Re: Liberty series
That is EXACTLY like teams being scared to play us. AD's schedule. Donors hire AD's. We are going to have a hard time scheduling P5's. We Scared Tennessee and PennState and Beat UNC, USC. I promise it has AD's thinking if it is worth scheduling us as a G5 game. We may get Clemson and Alabama, but it will be hard to get the middle of the conference teams to schedule us.bcoach wrote: ↑Tue Jan 28, 2020 5:50 pmThat is much different than teams being scared to play us.
