leadoff walk from Crespo follow promptly by a GIDP by Burris who is 0-4 and hitting .179... do we not have anyone else who can play LF and hit????

Re: App State vs Campbell
With Leach out, forcing Dobson to play 1B and William Head banged up as well, I'm not sure. My problem is putting him in the 2-hole. If he's in there for his defense, stick him in the 8 or 9 spot. It is a rally-killer to have a kid struggling like that in between Crespo and Jaylin.mtnjax wrote:leadoff walk from Crespo follow promptly by a GIDP by Burris who is 0-4 and hitting .179... do we not have anyone else who can play LF and hit????

has anyone heard anything on Leach possibly returning soon? that would help more ways than oneasumike83 wrote:With Leach out, forcing Dobson to play 1B and William Head banged up as well, I'm not sure. They answered every score. Their catcher had 2 hrs and 6 rbi's. I too don't understand Buris in the 2 hole. Put hot bat Dimock in there from 8th or move Davis up.

Bottom line: we lack pitching depth and that will hinder any postseason chances.

Re: App State vs Campbell
We lost the second best catcher in the history of the program, a RF who is with the Braves organization, our best OF out for the year. Every weekend starter, two middle relievers and closer are new. Two current weekend starters got almost no innings last year, the best guy on the staff is a transfer. One of the hottest bats on the team (Leach) goes down and replaced by a freshman (Dobson), who was the DH. We have a catcher who didn't have an at bat in three years until he was forced into action. Some how we have managed to cobble together 21 wins, are 1 1/2 games out of first place and Billy Jones should be a leading candidate for coach of the year honors. And BTW Campbell is pretty good. 32-8 with an RPI of 56 to App's 81.

Re: App State vs Campbell
All very valid points. I think many folks just figured we would pick up where we left off last year and the NCSU win spurred a lot of that wishful thinking. We are having a good year by most standards, it just doesn't match last year. We are still in the hunt for the SoCon title and this team has shown the ability to score runs. It probably comes down to how our pitching holds up.Kgfish wrote:We lost the second best catcher in the history of the program, a RF who is with the Braves organization, our best OF out for the year. When will some of you guys realize what we lost last year on the mound. When you are as good as we were last year, and lose what we lost on the mound, that cannot be replaced immediately. We were absolutely stacked. Someone's y'all need to be realisticmtnjax wrote:I hope we've recruited some better pitching depth for next year

Re: App State vs Campbell
Tewell is actually a catcher. Just played right field last year bc his bat had to be in the lineup, and overall we were better with him and dowdy both in lineup. Head to head many ppl think Tewell was the best catcher. Tewell was drafted as a catcher.Kgfish wrote:We lost the second best catcher in the history of the program, a RF who is with the Braves organization, our best OF out for the year. And Nunn is best on staff right now. He's be Socon pitcher of the year if the season was over today.Kgfish wrote:We lost the second best catcher in the history of the program, a RF who is with the Braves organization, our best OF out for the year. Besides those two things. I fully agree with the rest of your post

Sam has been dominant recently but I think Nunn is the best on staff. Other than that, I don't disagree with any of this. Coach Jones has done a great job with this team, especially considering all that the team lost.Kgfish wrote:We lost the second best catcher in the history of the program, a RF who is with the Braves organization, our best OF out for the year. After losing the Friday-Saturday starters and the closer, then having Frankoff go down with an injury, the lack of pitching depth is understandable. I thought that getting 30-35 wins would be a nice accomplishment for this group and that was before we found out that Zupcic would not play. With a backloaded home schedule, it looks like the team will probably end up somewhere in that range.
It is part of the game but the injuries are just so frustrating. With Leach and Zupcic in there, this line-up would be scary good.

I know he was drafted as a catcher. That is immaterial where this team is concerned. Tewell is another void that had to be filled.Blackandgold wrote:Tewell is actually a catcher. Hearing Frankoff will have Tommy John surgery. Hopeful he can bounce back next year if he decides to return.asumike83 wrote:Sam has been dominant recently but I think Nunn is the best on staff. Re: App State vs Campbell
Despite the youth, (3 late/last inning Conf losses -Davidson, GSU, UNCG preventing sweeps) we could be in first place. Pretty remarkable considering what we lost last year and this year's injuries.

Team is positioned pretty well for the SoCon stretch run. Apps have most of the away schedule behind them and lots of home cooking ahead.
