Re: Beat Western
I haved only live here since 1987 and don't have access to the ASU baseball archives. That being said, over that period, Iv'e seen some really good App baseball teams, some mediocre ones and some that finished in towards bottom half of socon. What I have not seen until this year, is a team that can pitch a 4 hitter against the #2 team in nation on tuesday and give up 23 runs at home on Thursday. The loss today 23-2 and the loss (at home also) against Samford 19-2 are the two worse losses i can remember in my 25 years following Appalachian baseball. What is up wth this team? Physical talent is not the issue imo. Mental talent maybe?

Re: Beat Western
Western rakes and Nunn had a terrible day. He would've been in contention for Socon pitcher of the year had he had a good night lady night.
I would've let ridings wear it in the upper back after he bunted. And then looked straight at Moranda. Gah I can't stand him

Re: Beat Western
Coach Morris even commented how in poor taste that bunting was at that stage. It is western's revenue sport.

Taking a beating like this is humbling, but it's our team job to stop them. There better be no complaining from their board when we hang 100 on them in the fall.
Give 'em hell!

Re: Beat Western
If they could have scored 50 runs then they should have. It is our job to get them out. If we can't it's on us, not them. Same goes for the 79 in football. It was their job to stop us, not our job to stop scoring.BeauFoster wrote:Taking a beating like this is humbling, but it's our team job to stop them. I'd rather lose a game by 30 runs than have Western give us pity outs. The bunting wasn't necessary but if our team doesn't like it, do something about it and get them out.
I'll be at The Beav tonight, our boys better lace 'em up tight.

Statement from Watauga Democrat:
"Appalachian State coach Billy Jones is no stranger to games similar to the one his Mountaineers lost Thursday."
It's understood this is Coach Jones first season and it will take more than one season to get things "adjusted." However, this familiarity on his part is something he may want to take a closer look at.

Re: Beat Western
Western is by the far the best team in the SoCon this year and have had a strong second half of the season. We may not like it, but we need to give them their due.
I believe that is Nunn's second consecutive loss. He has been the mainstay so far this season. Interestingly, our weak spot has been our other starting pitchers but they have actually done relatively well in recent outings.
I must confess I don't know what to expect in the SoCon tourney. As inconsistent as we have been this season we could be gone in two games or make it to the championship game. Though, I think the former is more likely than the latter. It really will come down to pitching.

Re: Beat Western
I thought Nunn was just choking in the 1st and 2nd. Then they teed off on just about every pitch from every pitcher we put out there.
Overall, our pitching has been our achilles heel this year and yesterday's arse whoopin' epitomized it.
Truly embarrassing. Also embarrassing was the fact that there were probably <100 App fans there. The few of us that stayed till the end were likely outnumbered by Can'tAmount fans.

Re: Beat Western
You don't bunt up by 12 runs. App pitcher should've drilled ridings. You
Also, the Socon is so down this year in baseball. And western has basically same team as last year minus Heffley. And they were best hitting team last year IMO. so with the same lineup and a down league, they are dominating.
I'd like to see jaylin and Dobson take some notes from Callaway on having an offensive approach

Re: Beat Western
First batter should see high and tight heat today from Sam. We've also got to start scoring early.
