He will have them playing good ball, the guy won 9 games in back to back seasons at Tenn and that is a big accomplishment despite what their delusional Alumni think.

Re: Butch Jones new coach at Ark St.
This hire makes me wonder what kind of names contacted Doug last year about our opening prior to naming Shawn the head coach.
Re: Butch Jones new coach at Ark St.
This happened insanely fast. The quiet rumor in Jonesboro had been the school and Blake had been working on a way to amicably separate for a while, and we waived his buyout so Utah State could come in.
Makes me think we already did a lot of the vetting on this before we even announced Anderson's departure.
Major Applewhite is coming as offensive coordinator.

You guys should be excited, I think you got an upgrade over Anderson and that isn't in any way putting down Anderson. I just think Butch Jones is a really good coach that should do good things for your program.chiefsfan wrote: ↑Sat Dec 12, 2020 8:32 pmThis happened insanely fast. The competition just got tougher. He will bring in better athletes and a system to win immediately. We are going to have to step it up a notch ourselves.

Butch Jones doesn't scare me one bit... but Major Applewhite being OC is a steal.. But, they won't be at stAte long IF they can perform.

Agree with News...Applewhite is the scary part of this (if he actually lands in Jonesboro).
It would be nice for someone in the west to actually give ULLLLLLLL a game at some point, to strengthen that side of the draw.

Maybe I'm alone in this, but Applewhite has done nothing in his career that "scares" me. Yes he has a bunch of nice names on his resume, but his actual work is less than impressive.

Congrats to StAte for landing Jones. He's got a LOT of work to do but he's in a great location for recruiting and I'd imagine he'll attract seriously good staff.
I'm not worried or scared about this. We've all wanted to SBC to get stronger and this is a good step to that actually happening.

Great hire for StAte. South Alabama scored a nice win too in getting Kane Womack, the DC from Indiana.
Make no mistake this conference just got tougher to win.

Re: Butch Jones new coach at Ark St.
Depends on what statistics you're pulling from to say top five. In his time at both Texas and Houston he had 1 top 10 scoring season(I prefer scoring over yards personally) and that was 10th. Then immediately regressed in Herman's second and final season at Houston. As the the HC at Houston his offenses again got worse. Like I said his name does not strike fear with me.AppStateNews wrote: ↑Sun Dec 13, 2020 10:12 amExcept coordinate top 5 offenses consistently at Texas and Houston...

I’m with you. I never get all of the uproar when some former “big name” gets hired at a smaller level school. People act like he’s the second coming of Knute Rockne. Nothing against Jones or Applewhite but weren’t they unemployed prior to getting hired at Arky? Just because they arrive doesn’t mean instant success. Les Miles hasn’t exactly turned Kansas around.

They both spent this season with Saban as analysts I believe, but I'm with you. I will say ArkSt will come out hot over the next two seasons because Butch isn't looking to build anything other than his resume, they will be dangerous those two years but after he leaves it will be a wasteland.bigdaddyg wrote: ↑Sun Dec 13, 2020 1:04 pmI’m with you.
