We are in need of someone to take over the maintenance of the MMB. Yosef has done it for a long time, and we are grateful for all he has done, but life happens and he no longer has the time to devote to its upkeep. If anyone here is interested in helping to keep the board running, please let me know via DM.

I’m truly surprised that Lance Ware’s name hasn’t been mentioned. Is there any reason that he wouldn’t be considered?

Would have been very interested in Zach Kitterly if WKU hadn’t scooped him up.
Question for those of you in the know- What role does DG play in the process? Does he research and make recommendations, or is it all on Coach Clark?

Re: new oc
Well DG has to sign off so he probably has some input. He probably has some part of the HR process as well.

Re: new oc
It would be ideal to have an OC stay for a long time but where we are at this level and financial ability, if we get a quality OC we will not be able to retain them more than a few years. Even if you look at Alabama or some other top programs, they don’t keep a good OC more than a few years as they move on to HC.
Therefore,I agree given our returning and incoming talent level Next year you have to hire someone who can make an immediate impact not wait for future.

If I were an up and coming OC, I would be calling SC lobbying for the job. Just do a good job for 50 weeks and you punch your ticket to the P5 level with a multi-year contract. Not bad regardless of what App can afford to pay.

Re: new oc
Yep, and I suspect that SC and DG are getting deluged with calls and resumes now that TP's news is out. We're obviously a P5 coaching launch pad now and we've got a ton of offensive talent coming back.Appstate88 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 30, 2020 1:35 pmIf I were an up and coming OC, I would be calling SC lobbying for the job. Re: new oc
Regardless of who the OC is, it's ultimately Shawn's offense. He will hire someone who is on the same page and will work with the talent we have. Then he'll do it again if that one leaves for a promotion. I don't think any offense minded HC would hire an OC to come in and completely revamp the offense he prefers unless the talent just wasn't there. We're going to be run first as long as Shawn's the HC. However, I also think Shawn will open up the passing game.

Re: new oc
I'd be surprised if SC hires anyone he doesn't already have some relationship with through coaching. I can't see him hiring someone in which he doesn't at least already have some knowledge.

I agree, Run 55% - Pass 45%... Boone weather, smaller, yet athletic and laterally quick OL says run the ball inside/outside zone and rollout pass to TE or slot receiver.goapps93 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 30, 2020 2:27 pmRegardless of who the OC is, it's ultimately Shawn's offense. Re: new oc
Posted this on the other thread that someone mentioned knotts, but I went to independence high school when he was coaching there and have family members that know knotts pretty well. He’s in his mid 60s, has a kid in school, and wants to have control of whatever he’s doing. He coached at his alma mater (Duke) for a year and hated it. 0% chance he comes to App.

Re: new oc
I think people are throwing out names we’re familiar with, which is understandable. If it’s not one of our current position coaches, though, I expect it will be a college position coach or co-OC who most of us probably know little or nothing about.

Re: new oc
For a coordinator's position, he'll steer Shawn between the salary, benefits and contract language ditches; involve himself in interviews when the list gets whittled down to two or three (max); he'll carefully check candidate-submitted references; he'll check out the finalist with his own personal network of contacts; he'll assure that the mandated-by-law criminal background check is done in a timely manner; and he'll deal personally with Chancellor Everts and the BOT.

Don't think his resume' screams Upper tier G5 level coordinator.Apple@chin1 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 30, 2020 12:34 pmI’m truly surprised that Lance Ware’s name hasn’t been mentioned. Is there any reason that he wouldn’t be considered?

Re: new oc
I say lets take a flyer on Gus Malzahn, he is currently unemployed and with the 21 million that Auburn just had to pay him he can afford to take less next year. Mostly joking here, but imagine what that guy could do with our offense against the defenses we usually face. It would be a show.

This.
DG is a very "hands on" AD and is known to be quite the "researcher". He will do his due diligence on a hire and make sure no stone is unturned.

Re: new oc
Been really quiet on the new OC front. Any rumors or names floating around?
With the coaches convention next weekend, I’m assuming it will be at least another week until we hear. Just curious.

This is an important hire and no reason to rush it...spring practice isn't going to be for a while I'm assuming.
