Marshall game moved to Thursday night
Ugh. Just so much ugh. And I don't want to hear the counter argument to this, because it's not good.
One less home Saturday in September.
One less home Saturday.
A regional opponent on a weeknight.
Five-day turnaround after the Elon game.
I hate this so much.

Agree on all points.
Would have drawn a huge crowd due to the old rivalry aspect. Not even sure it's that great a matchup for TV beyond fans of the two teams, unless we start off undefeated.

Agreed, Ugh! However, if there's any consolation, they have a five-day turnaround too. They play East Carolina on the 18th, Saturday prior. It's a home game too, for us. It sucks, however, it sucks for Marsha more. LOL

True. The problem is that short turnarounds have been associated with more injuries.WataugaMan wrote: ↑Fri Mar 05, 2021 11:03 am"Five-day turnaround after the Elon game"

Re: Herd game update - Thursday
Very disappointing and getting to the absurd level on the amount of mid week games we have this year. Beginning to feel like the MAC and we have all seen what it has done to their attendance. I was hoping to get up to Boone to see this game, but now I need to pick and choose which mid week game I prefer to watch in person since I just can't take off for 3 of them. The only non holiday weekend Saturday games at the Rock this year are against no frill teams (Elon, ULM, USA) and the final one against Southern is the Saturday after Thanksgiving and everyone knows how poorly attendance is at that time slot. There really is no need to ever expand our stadium if we are going to keep putting our biggest games for attendance on dates and times that will severely limit our attendance. Really frustrated over this one.

So only one true home game on a Saturday in September. Glad to play at BofA stadium for EasyU but that is not a home game. After mid October, you never know what kind of weather you will get.

Re: Herd game update - Thursday
Just a question... would it be possible that the AD department might feel that there won't be 100% attendance in Sep so moving to Thursday night might not have as big an impact as normal???

Re: Herd game update - Thursday
I would guess that back to back September games would have a bigger impact on the Elon game. That would be the one that I would have skipped if I had to choose between the two.

I became a Yosef club member and season ticket holder to go to the games. This is getting ridiculous. They are never going grow the fan base if this continues.

Re: Herd game update - Thursday
That would make this a much more defensible decision. But there's no way they can know that this far in advance.

Playing on National TV doesn't grow the fan base? Man, some of you are acting rather spoiled.

I became a Yosef Club member to support our student athletes.
We are never going to grow the fanbase if we can't put the school and student athletes before ourselves.
I have six months to plan to take a vacation day the Friday following this game. Looking forward to beating the herd and a long weekend in the mountains.

We aren't in a position to say no to TV. We have over six months of notice. Take PTO and get a babysitter. I prefer Saturday games as much as the next fan and I HATE that we'll lose 30% attendance because of this, but this has been our reality for many years at this point. I'm not even remotely outraged. It's like our fans on twitter and the MMB just time travelled from 2013 or something.

Re: Herd game update - Thursday
And I get that for conference games. But let's not kid ourselves about our station. This game is not going to draw monster TV numbers. App State vs. Marshall is a big deal for fans of the two schools. It's a very good regional G5 matchup. But it is not that big a deal for many other people. If it were, it wouldn't have to move to Thursday to get on TV.
This game will probably get stuck on the U when some ACC game moves to Thursday, and most fans will watch that or the NFL or baseball or Netflix while maybe 250K tune in for us.

I usually agree with this viewpoint. I don't think I've ever complained about a weeknight game before. But this one irks me. Moving multiple OOC games to weeknights on top of the requisite conference games is something new.Gonzo wrote: ↑Fri Mar 05, 2021 12:13 pmWe aren't in a position to say no to TV. If you have the freedom and resources to take PTO and hire a babysitter three times in a month and a half to attend ECU, Marshall AND Coastal, then good for you. I promise not everyone is in that situation. And frankly, even if they can, not everyone wants to.
