2020-'21 Women's Basketball Megathread

The App women cruised by Ga Southern 77-66 at HCC last night. They were once again paced by Pre Stanley's 18 points and 6 assists and by Lainey Gosnell's sixth double-double of the season (18 points and 10 boards).

The Mountaineers return to action this afternoon in search of a weekend sweep and a winning season for the second time in the last three seasons. The Mountaineers will tip at 4 p.m. against the Eagles for Senior Day. Maya Calder, Tierra Wilson, Michaela Porter, Pre Stanley, and Lainey Gosnell will be recognized before the game.

Senior forward Lainey Gosnell celebrated Senior Day by leading her team to an 81-78 win over Ga Southern with a team best 23 point and 9 rebound performance. Three other Mountaineers were in double-digits...Stanley 16, Sanders 15 and Porter 14. Our Apps sweep The Stink on the HCC home hardwood.

Blew a 13 point 4th quarter lead but held on to win. Played a bit sloppy down the stretch.

Was lucky enough to pull up the women’s game at work today. They’ve dominated a bad ULM team. Currently up 17 with less than 2 minutes to play.

Didn’t realize they were the 3 seed either, hats off to them this year

Great win! Was able to watch 1st half before going to daughters game, wife was more interested in GT-NCST game so had trouble getting updates.

15 for 56 from the floor and we almost scored more from the stripe. Very physical game.

Troy out to a 13-0 lead to start the semifinal.

Twice in the last few minutes there’s been a loose ball, and only after it was clear Troy had turned it over they blew the whistle to call a defensive foul on App.

Tough one today. Twice fought back from double-digit deficits against the league’s top team and had an open 3 that was halfway down in the final seconds before rimming out. App falls 66-63 to Troy to end the season 15-12.

Women fought hard today. I felt the key play was end of 3rd Troy scored and then mugged APP on the inbounds only to have ref say OB off APP and Troy scores . 4 point turn around.

I never have been able to understand how a defensive player can run into someone and knock them over and not be a foul.

Lots of credit to the women on their tournament performance. Really had a gritty performance today and fought to the end. When they fell behind by double digits early I thought we were in for a beat down but they didn't drop their heads and quit.
