We are ineligible for football because we will be competing with more scholarships. All the other sports in the SoCon can play at the same level of scholarships that we do.
OK so we were able to play more scholarship players this year. That makes sense. Thanks
If I recall correctly, not only are we ABLE to play with more scholarships this year, we are actually required to have at least 68 (or some number around there) in order to meet the transition requirements. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but that was my understanding.

If they don't honor the championship eligibility while we are members, I say we don't honor the exit fee we all agreed to.

Changing the rules mid-way through a game is what 5 year olds do.
I agree, but we've seen Iamaniro broach childishness before.

In all fairness, Iamamoron clearly states that his preference is to allow the teams to compete for championships, but the presidents & chancellors have the final say.

And what the hell is "Linear TV? We don't have any "inventory?" What is this, K-Mart? Why don't these people speak like normal people?
It's alarming that Iamarino is the voice of reason in this case. Perhaps this is the "diversity" that Elon disliked. ;)

If that is the case then it is only fair that we not be able to play for anything relating to FCS as we are no longer FCS. I have no argument with that.

You are correct with the 68 number. Over a two year period every FBS school must offer 90% of the available scholarships for football, (76.5). We will likely shoot for 72 for 2013 to allow for cushion, should we not get to 85 for 2014.

Just a couple clarifications- We are ineligible for the football championship in this league next year. Meaning, no trophy, no auto-bid, no commissioner cup points due to the fact that we are not playing by the same rules (IE scholarships) as the rest of the league.

What is being voted on is allowing us to compete for SoCon Championships in every other sport that is still on an even playing field (Baseball, Basketball, Soccer, etc). This would mean, App cannot win trophys, auto-bids, commissioner cup points or even play in SoCon Tournaments.

Feelings for Iamarino aside, this is not his call. He has no vote in this matter, and can only try to campaign a certain way. Which right now is for eligibility. This will be voted on by the 11 remaining conference presidents at the SoCon Spring Meetings.

Do we still have a SoCon vote, and are we able to vote in the SB yet? To the point, does ASU have any say in our SoCon replacements or the 12 member of the SB?

The SoCon needs us for wrestling and with that we can get the Men's Soccer a home in the SoCon? Do we have the leverage to pull wrestling to call the "7"s hand? Finding a home for these two sports is not worth the effort to win the cup one more time vs long term needs for the two sports. But we do have some leverage with wrestling it would seem.

Ultimately, I think they are just blowing smoke on this, and Iamarino is just trying to appear engaged. With Elon, GSU, ASU, Davidson and CofC leaving, that is five of the eight men's soccer teams in the conference. They are going to need GSU and ASU to keep soccer in the SoCon (Sun Belt does not have soccer), for without us I do not believe the SoCon would have the numbers to offer a conference championship. Perhaps they'll even need to add some associate members, because I think the Elon and Davidson departures caught them off guard. I'm fairly certain that Furman won't go along with anything that jeopardizes their chance to stay at or near the top of the heap in Men's soccer.

ETSU, Mercer and VMI all have men's soccer so that would make six of the full-time members in 2014 so it makes sense to keep App and GSU in those sports to keep a solid eight. They need a minimum of six teams to keep the NCAA qualifier bid.

It's pretty much a lock that App will keep wrestling in the SoCon as will Davidson since that sport already has associate members.

My original take was we stay SoCon for wrestling as that was needed for the SoCon and we bargain for the SoCon to take our MSoc as well, like it or not on the part of some SoCon schools. GaSo seemed to be shopping around for MSoc, but this may open up a spot for their MSoc. With them not having wrestling their need to be in the SoCon for one sport was not a concern for the conf. All this movement may play into GaSo's needs as much as anyone.

We will be playing Men's soccer in the SoCon. I verified that first hand a month ago.

I forgot about VMI, ETSU & Mercer all having teams

SoCon confirmed today that App and GSU can compete for all championships except football.
