Pretty much all the 70's APP and VMI were neck and neck, but they pulled out two conference titles (I don't think we ever pulled out a Football title with them in the Socon). ETSU pretty much owned the 90's in basketball (with Chatt).
The only time App and VMI were competitive at all was in the 70's as App was still transitioning into Division I and we were 2-1 against them in the 70's. We won 17 of our last 18 games against VMI and most of them were not competitive. VMI left the SoCon because they could not compete. It really does not do justice to App athletics to imply they were even close to being an equal, then or now.
ETSU is at least worth discussing because of their basketball program and recent uptick in baseball. I'd love to continue playing them regularly in baseball and basketball but we do not belong on the same football field as either ETSU or VMI. That may come off as arrogant but it is the truth. VMI is a fine institution and I respect them in that regard but as an athletic department, we are on an entirely different level.
So you agree with me, there was a time that both teams ate our lunch. Thanks
Now you can keep bringing it up on every thread, but I'm letting go on this one. Play among yourself.
