Commish/German Cup points?
I read a long time ago about how the point are figured considering we sponsor more sports than others. Forgot how that works. Anyone know?

Re: Comish/German Cup pointz?
If you go to the link I maintain you will see some explanations. I have both Men's and Women's points combined on one page but that is unofficial. I also have avg per sport, and that is unofficial as well. What counts is having the most points. The SoCon gives 12 for reg. season (11 for divisional champ) and for sports with few schools last place may still win 5 or 6 points. The process is helpful to the schools with the most sports competing in the SoCon. Tourney champs receive 2 points.Dmanuhone wrote:I read a long time ago about how the point are figured considering we sponsor more sports than others. Forgot how that works. Anyone know?

posted in Watauga democrat today "ASU wins Commissioner's Cup"
Appalachian State was recognized for winning the Commissioner's Cup, presented to the top overall men's athletics program. The Mountaineers also claimed the Germann Cup, which is awarded to the conference's top women's athletics program.

The reason I ask is a gasouth fan is saying the only reason we win it is we sponsor more sports than the others. I am thinking their is a mechanism to even that out.

To which you reply, "yes, we sponsor more sports so that means we have less money per sport so we shouldn't be finishing near the top of almost everything!"Dmanuhone wrote:The reason I ask is a gasouth fan is saying the only reason we win it is we sponsor more sports than the others. Re: Commish/German Cup points?
GaSo barely qualifies for D! status given the number of sports they sponsor. It does help that we sponsor more sports, and even more so in that a sport like wrestling even last place receives 5 points. The year our women had more points and a highest avg per sport. ON the men's side we had way more points, but lost the avg to Elon by 0.09, which they took the lead on the avg per sport by winning the baseball tourney. Some years we top both points and averages, and some years just points, but even those years we are very close to the top in the avg as well.Dmanuhone wrote:The reason I ask is a gasouth fan is saying the only reason we win it is we sponsor more sports than the others. The SB combines men's and women's teams in one cup, and only gives points based on the number of schools competing in each sport.
