I think that disrespect will go away in a few years. Especially with the jump in recruiting I saw from App last year. App has had a great run in the Belt without bringing in the top recruiting classes. I can only imagine what you'll do now that you seem to be in that top of the conference range for recruiting rankings.

Re: G5 Preseason Top 25
I see a lot of folks talking about "disrespect" and I completely get it. I've even used the term at times. When I really take a step back and think more rationally about the situation though, these things are much more about ignorance than disrespect. This will all be corrected this fall...at least it should be. If it isn't, then they weren't wrong.

I was talking with a good friend the other day about how App fans felt that UNC “dodged” App for years in football. He is a diehard Tarheel fan and very respectful to App but he said that UNC never dodged any D2 school. I knew what he meant but even during the huge dominant FCS days we all know we constantly corrected people by saying that App was still D1. That line of demarcation still exists even though the top G5’s could probably routinely beat at least a third to a half of the average P5’s.

Re: G5 Preseason Top 25
I encounter this a great deal as well. It’s frustrating. It just illustrates the point why kids will choose to play at a middling to low tier P5 than a G5. It is a perception that is ingrained in people’s minds.

Re: G5 Preseason Top 25
If I'm going to play devil's advocate here:
-lost 3 G5 games last year.
-losing 3 year QB while still playing all teams that beat us last year with returning QB.
-still unproven head coach.
-losing 2 all conference OL
-losing NFL caliber CB
I think #24 is too low a ranking, but I can see anywhere from #12-#19 if I'm unbiased.

With all due respect (what, I said with all due respect), there is no way I could have a close friend who refers to App as a D2 school. Between that, and saaaaay if someone pronounced her Appalayshun, I don’t think I could trust someone enough to call them a close friend.bigdaddyg wrote: ↑Mon Jun 28, 2021 7:39 amI was talking with a good friend the other day about how App fans felt that UNC “dodged” App for years in football. As I’ve said on here time-and-again, some of y’all need new friends.

Re: G5 Preseason Top 25
I would say- beat Miami (and ECU) but mainly Miami we skyrocket up this dumb ranking. Lose to both we get put in our place by lots of people. Beat ECU and get throttled by Miami that rank is about right. Beat ECU and lose a one score game to Miami and they go on to a huge season we are about where we perceive us to be, a legit top 25 program. Bottom line, who cares about this poll. Just win babyCoachRob wrote: ↑Mon Jun 28, 2021 8:10 amIf I'm going to play devil's advocate here:

Re: G5 Preseason Top 25
We ultimately won't be judged by where we start but how we finish. As stated by Coach Rob, given what he listed, it is reasonable to assume that the teams that beat us last year are in a position to do the same this year. We do have the benefit of 2 at home and 1 on the road, which is a reverse of last season. I think we all believe we can rectify last year's defeats but its not unfair for those not connected to the program to doubt otherwise.

Re: G5 Preseason Top 25
In response to this specific G5 ranking, I think all of us see a bunch of holes in it. We are not the only team ranked in unfounded slots. I personally think we are WAY too low. Probably 11-15 range is fair given factors listed above. However, this guy's overall ranking seems suspect. Therefore, I don't give this poll much credibility.
I also agree, we just need to take care of business out of the gate. If we convincingly handle ECU and take care of business in Miami (WIN) we will be instantly reinstated as the King of the Sun Belt by most national analyst. Of course, assuming that happens we have to continue to deliver for the entire season. Point is, we control our own destiny and will nobody but ourselves to blame if we don't deliver.

Re: G5 Preseason Top 25
I had a good conversation with Joe Broback, the author of this poll, on Twitter (mostly through PM) and his biggest reason for our ranking was Chase Brice is a new and unproven QB in our system, which is a fair. I do think he is drastically undervaluing our RB room and I don't think knows the name Corey Sutton yet (which is crazy to me). He also didn't seem to put much stock in transfers we have coming in to reload our secondary.
I like where we are and I am really optimistic about this year. We just have to start and keep on winning.

It is hard to argue with either of those points.NeersBy90 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 28, 2021 1:16 pmI had a good conversation with Joe Broback, the author of this poll, on Twitter (mostly through PM) and his biggest reason for our ranking was Chase Brice is a new and unproven QB in our system, which is a fair. Re: G5 Preseason Top 25
If we get good offensive line play Chase won’t have to play out of his mind. With the running backs we can shuffle in and out I believe Chase could theoretically throw 20 passes a game, mostly short to mid range and those studs will do the rest of the work. Unless he’s a dud I simply don’t see much to worry about

Re: G5 Preseason Top 25
I was in Vegas this week and spent a little time at the Sport Book. For the season, they had Coastal’s over/under at 7.5 conference wins, Louisiana at 7, App at 5.5 and GaSo at 3.5 (8 conference games).
The good news was that they listed Top CFB games on the big board for Sept. and we were -6 Vs. Marshall.
It’s a good year to earn more National respect. Seems like a lot of people are sleeping on the Mountaineers.

Coastal under, App over are easy. Louisiana likely pushes and I would lean over on GaSo.WASU 93 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 28, 2021 2:08 pmI was in Vegas this week and spent a little time at the Sport Book. It’s also possible that Coastal is just good. As unfortunate as that may be.

I don’t think that there is any question that they are good. Not insinuating that at all. Injuries aside, the whole year wasn’t a level playing field for all and they took advantage of it. I expect them to continue an upward trajectory.

Re: G5 Preseason Top 25
They did what they needed to do last year and I tip my hat to them. But, we all see them as a ripe candidate for a take-down by App this year. They got a taste of the sweet fruit of success last year, we got a bitter taste of humble pie, that gap could be our friend. This scenario makes for a great opportunity to let the FBS world know who still runs the SBC. Are our guys up to the task? That will be a good one to see on the field. I still say if you want to be the best you have to beat the best so let's get with it....and I want our team to "leave no doubt" as Dabo so eloquently puts it.

Re: G5 Preseason Top 25
I really do think this is the key to our season. Our o-line underperformed last year in my opinion and we need much improved play from them this season to have the season we all want to have. I've always liked Cardwell, but bottom line he is a new offensive line coach with a TE background. If you look at our past o-lines that have been really good, they were all coached by a seasoned o-line coach and/or a coach who WAS an offensive lineman. If our line plays well, I think Chase will have an amazing year with our WR corps and our RB's will have a chance to shine.bigdaddyg wrote: ↑Mon Jun 28, 2021 1:53 pmIf we get good offensive line play Chase won’t have to play out of his mind.
