Say it ain't so, RoyBoy
Re: Say it ain't so, RoyBoy
I'm just saying that every athletic department has it's problems with athletes. Kids are kids at any school.
Look at ASU football the lasts couple years.
It's fine to poke fun at other schools when things come up like this but we need to also be reminded that ASU is in the same boat and has had the same problems.

At least this Hole will get his day in court. The same can't be said about our players last year during the witch hunt to which you refer.AppGrad1 wrote:Yea, I agree. At least it wasn't a rape or anything...
Glass houses.
We kicked three of our best players off the team and expelled them from school without so much as one criminal charge being filed. If that's not running a tight ship, I don't know what is.
I would call it overkill and a violation of due process, but what do I know.

I think CoCo got a DUI.AppGrad1 wrote:Didn't we also have someone with a DUI and who bought alcohol that was for underage kid that went through the courts?
It doesn't compare to having a ****ton of the devil's lettuce and a handgun. Nor does it compare to one of the biggest academic fraud conspiracies in history.
No program is perfect, but any program outside of Chapel Hill, NC has enough moral high ground to poke fun at the Tar Holes for their laughably hypocritical "Carolina Way" and their seemingly endless history of stuff like this.
Give me a break.

Must be a terrible school despite the accolades it continues to receive. Yes, big time academic scandal in football.Gonzo wrote:I think CoCo got a DUI.AppGrad1 wrote:Didn't we also have someone with a DUI and who bought alcohol that was for underage kid that went through the courts?

This thread is making me seem more pro UNC than ASU. That is not the case. However, most who paint UNC as a fraud of a college/athletics are mostly haters and not very objective...
That's ok. Haters gonna hate.

Re: Say it ain't so, RoyBoy
App has never been a school that has proclaimed we are squeaky clean and don't have issues. We DO have issues and handle them when they arise. CoCo was suspended four games, three players were kicked off the team even though the case was dropped by the courts due to lack of evidence. I'm sure there are plenty of examples that have never surfaced as well. I'm not naive.
However UNC-CH for years claimed they didn't cheat or do the things we know ALL universities do. That is the reason for the backlash they face every time they do something like this.
What happened at that school from an academic scandal standpoint and the reaction of the general public had would be similar if we learned Tebow ran a brothel.

I'm not really sure who you say claimed they never cheat. The university? It's fans?
I don't think any rational fan would say that. If they did it'd only show their shade ofglasses.

I was trying to figure out a way to say just what you said as I was reading this thread. I do not care about UNC, Duke, NCSU while WF and UNCC are irrelevant IMO.Longrifle28 wrote:...No Equal. But it was more to do with us winning three straight national titles which hadn't been done in 1-AA.
The Carolina Way is a farce.
The thing I hate is that ANY kid makes a mistake or two like this! They think they are invincible and then things go to crap. The biggest problem most kids have is they get with the wrong two or three "friends" and then they think they have to fit in to some vision of what they think others think they should be. He freaking knows better, as did all the kids at ASU who have ever messed up.
When I was at ASU if we had, had social networking a lot more would have hit the news than did. Today if you are a part of a bigger program/company/or group you have to think prior to acting/talking etc.on the issue. Just ask Gee at Ohio St. most recently! PJ was stupid and was not thinking!

No need to worry about PJ. Roy will take care of him. I don't care if the weed is his and the gun was used to kill someone. PJ will play at UNC or some other top University next year and he will be a millionaire the next.asutrnr81 wrote:I was trying to figure out a way to say just what you said as I was reading this thread. Most of you know I spend several hours a day (sometimes much more) searching through just about every social networking site in addition to the internet as a whole trying to find recruiting info. Sometimes I even scoop the big boys like I did yesterday with the Moreland kid from Royal Palm Beach. None of the recruiting sites had so much as a peep about him when I already had a page up.asutrnr81 wrote:I was trying to figure out a way to say just what you said as I was reading this thread. But what I don't talk about is what I read in the thousands of tweets and posts from not only these kids but current students and even alumni of a lot of schools, not just App. Some of my search terms can be applied to many schools and that's why I have to look through so much. It truly is eye opening to see some of the things people put out there, as if it can only be seen by the person they are posting to. I don't talk about it because I could fill up this entire site with threads just on what I read. The problem for these people is if I can find it then so can others. And as law enforcement and other governing bodies start making a bigger effort some of this stuff is going to come back and bite some people square in the butt.

The book you are referring to was a leadership book written by Dean Smith. It was about leadership lessons that he incorporated into his coaching to help make him one of the most successful college coaches ever. The title is a play on words. Call it what you want, Dean Smith did it the right way.

Going out of our way to recognize a mistake by another school's student-athlete kinda makes us look bad. Everybody's heard about it, no need to post this here IMO.

Carolina basketball has not served any sanctions or penalties since Smith was the head coach and to the present. If you wish to paint a broad stroke across the basketball program because a kid was in posession of an illegal substance that many think should be legalized then I can't help you. I am a fan of Carolina and I hate Duke. However, coach K is a helluva coach and I respect what they do, even if I despise their success. The Carolina way was how Dean Smith ran his program. Not the athletic dept or the school. It is disappointing that you are so blinded by your hatred for Carolina that you can't be objective in your conclusions. I bet you only watch one news channel.

I don't hate Carolina, actually the only reason I dislike them at all is because of App alums that pull for App during football season and then put on that blue come basketball season.
Evey program and every coach at a successful program has bent the rules, anyone that believes otherwise is naive. Hate to burst your bubble.
Looks like I've made some of our App football only fans uncomfortable.

You are not talking about me.
My loyalties for sports teams go in this order.
1. Any team wearing the black and gold.
2. There isn't a two because I didn't go to any other school.
Do I root for other teams in certain situations, yes. Do I admire other school's teams. Sure. I can understand your feelings of disgust for people who went to App and root for other schools. The bottom line is that everyone has an opinion on what is acceptable behavior. To have a negative opinion of those people is understandable, but is that a reason to trash the object of their loyalties.
Do I agree with those that choose to wear their pajamas to Wal-Mart? No. I don't understand the mentality of those that think this is acceptable behavior, but I don't blame Wal-Mart for it.

Being a fan and having a loyalty are two different things. Do I root for Carolina? Yes, except when they play ASU in anything. Thanks for proving my point that people see and read what they want to believe.
