I grew up on UNC football and basketball, so yes I still follow both closely and fairly passionately.

I am also an Alum and season ticket holder at KBS and have traveled on my own dime to see more App St basketball games home and away than most.

If any of you have a problem with me checking on a UNC score, come see me on University Dr. come tailgate time and we can discuss it face to face.

Why is it so wrong to pull for a team that you do not compete with. As long as it is not Carolina But really what is the problem. You can't see us on TV and you can see ACC for example so you can watch a game and pull for someone. How does that hurt us?

The way I see it, we are competing with all the ACC schools. App may not play them as much as we'd like but when it comes to fan support and even financial support from our own alumni base, we most certainly compete with UNC and NCSU.

In my opinion, wearing another school's colors instead of representing Appalachian is a missed opportunity and a negative for ASU. I love going out to the bar on Duke/UNC night wearing black and gold.

I did not root for App as a kid either, which I assume is the case for most anyone who didn't grow up in the area or have parents who went to App. Like most others growing up in North Carolina, I was raised on ACC basketball too. I'll still follow the games and if there is not an App game on at the time, I'll watch them when they come on TV and root for the local teams (except UNC) to do well.

Checking a score or even watching a game is completely harmless. What I don't understand is getting decked out in baby blue or red to scream at the TV while a school you didn't attend is playing and a school you did attend has a season going on as well. The ACC plays great basketball, I enjoy watching it as well but I'm not sitting on the edge of my seat and the outcome sure isn't going to make or break my night.

While I don't understand keeping that kind of passion for another school, what really gets under my skin is App grads who are Ram's Club/Wolfpack Club members. Those schools do not need your financial support nearly as much as your alma mater and I wish UNC/NCSU would never see another penny from an Appalachian alumnus.

It must take a lifetime of baby-blue-brainwashing to have any positive feeling towards the Holes. This is the most corrupt academic institution in America. Never mind their puppets the BOG of the UNC system, giving UNC-CH disproportional amounts of money every year while the rest of us are left to fight for the scraps, lay off teachers and struggle to function.

I grew up 2 hours from Chapel Hill, lived in a town that was dominated by tarheel fans. Growing up, I was constantly reminded why Carolina is a better Universty than most any other school in the USA, because of that one dam phrase "the Carolina Way". To a heel fan, it meant so much more that just a catch phrase, it was how than defined their University, that they never cheated, never took shortcuts, they always conducted themselves with great integrity both on and off the field and in the class room. In their minds it was how they separated themselves from the NCST, Florida States of the world. Now, the one thing they loved the most has been taken away forever, they are now no different from any other school in America, and that hurts them the most.

Several players on national championship teams that majored in said department and took classes from a "professor" who could not even produce syllabi for the classes? Check.

Proof that the chair of this department had a nice cushy relationship with athletic counselors, discussed his classes over drinks and got free tickets? Check.

What in the world will it take for someone to do what needs to be done and take a real close look at the cash cow? If this had happened in Boone, Raleigh or Greenville, they'd be picking meat from the bones of our basketball and football programs right now.

I don't see what's surprising here. Fans of one school talking bad about a different school--imagine that! I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that this type of talk is common among fanbases across the country. I grew up a UNC fan, but as the good book says, I put away childish things.
