Re: Miami game thread
First, a great effort by our guys. There were some great individual performances especially on defense. Unfortunately, some costly errors decided the game. I do believe this team has the ability to run the table. But, last night guarantees nothing. Do we really know how good Miami is? The assumption is that they will be the best team we will face and they likely are. But two games in really doesn’t give a clear picture. There are many tough games a head and we’ll need to play cleaner than we did last night,

Peoples has the size and strength to take on the Miami tacklers and had good success according to personal observation and the stat charts displayed on TV. Wish he’d gotten at least 2/3 of the series, maybe it would have helped our cause?

Re: Miami game thread
Just curious, does anyone know what 16s issue was in the first half I believe. He came off field or substituted (not injured). He was livid on sideline. As he got past coaches and beyond sidelines, he raised his hands up in disgust and walked all the way to other end of sideline well beyond offensive coaches.sy not been able to see this on TV. I get it if you are frustrated about getting touches with all the super seniors that decided to come back and not getting expected touches...so other than something like that, just curious if something else happened that I missed on the field?
On another note, this team appears to be "together". On some of possessions, I noticed some offensive players (after they got their test) actively getting into the defensive effort (starters). I really liked that. On defensive side, very impressive. First half, only TD Miami had was after the INT deep into our own territory. Very impressed.
On offensive side, I thought we did well considering the talent they have on defense overall. I realize that our QB may have missed some some throws, especially one to Sutton early in first half. That is football. You have to live with that. The miss on the long ball to Virgil down sideline is a lower percentage of completion throw no matter who you play, IMO, the primary reason he focused on Sutton for m what I could see in stands is that some of other receivers had issues getting space. Those DBs were good and had tight coverage Overall, I am very impressed with Brice.

Re: Miami game thread
Going into the season I thought ULL was going to be the toughest game on the schedule.
After two weeks Miami is probably the best all around team on our schedule. CCU will be the best offense we face all year though and ULL is still trying to find itself (maybe a little hangover from Texas).
After sleeping on it last night was a more disappointing loss than Penn St as it felt like we were the better team in many respects. This team was a ton of potential and IF they execute can run the table.

Re: Miami game thread
In a preseason thread, I had posted that I thought if we could eliminate the mental mistakes and penalties that cost us in all 3 losses last year, we would be able to make some noise this year. Well 2 bad snaps and a few dropped passes on that last drive did us in again. Very similar to the coastal game last year. I know this team is better than last years but I continue to see similar issues that plagued us last year. Just need to clean it up.
Still chasing that top 25 victory but we’ll get at least one more shot at a ranked team this season. At home under the lights on national tv. Keep the heads up!

On a side note but one that is good to hear. Several said that App St travels well. Although I discount it from a Miami fan that sits in a half empty stadium for their first football game of the year, I will take it.

Re: Miami game thread
I’ve seen ULL and Coastal play, I really Miami beats them handily. We have a really good team, and it showed last night against Miami’s talent, size, and speed even though we hurt our chances for the win. I don’t have a problem saying this is should be our best team since I’ve seen that I’ve been following APP football and that goes back to the last year APP football wasn’t Working.Saint3333 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 12, 2021 8:32 amGoing into the season I thought ULL was going to be the toughest game on the schedule.

Re: Miami game thread
Guess this may hurt because it may have taken the NY6 bid away. We mostly know you have to be perfect to get it over Cincy this year it seems.

Re: Miami game thread
I will say I’m surprised as much as everyone talked about Miami’s speed we seemed equal.

Re: Miami game thread
Proud of the fight this team showed. Loved seeing Sutton go face to face with their DB. The “we won’t be pushed around” mentality seems to be the identity of this team (through two games).
TD Roof, have a night, young man. He was flying around out there.
Any insight on injuries after the game? I know Harrington got banged up but don’t know the severity

Right, we’ll need to take care of business and pull for Miami to win their games, and Cincy to take a couple of losses to have a chance.

Re: Miami game thread
I get the whole NY6 issue...really do. I would love to go as much as anyone on here. That said, I get pretty worn out having it creep into every conversation we have. I believe we will eventually make it. Don't know when but it will happen. I don't believe it is going to happen by us manipulating our scores or schedules. It will happen when the team puts together a magical season combined with some luck (other teams losing, etc.). It will also probably require a few more years of reputation building, but we have made so much progress in a short time that it is hard to imagine it won't happen.
Yesterday was disappointing. We made some mistakes and a few points looked ugly. That's often what happens early in the season when two evenly matched teams square off. App stood toe to toe with a very good, athletic Miami team and once again it slipped away. Chase Brice looks fine to me! He and King had almost identical QB ratings. He will get a lot of coaching out of that game and he won't see another D anywhere near as athletic.
Yes, I'm disappointed that it slipped away, but the future looks bright! Coastal looks like they are exactly the same team as last year, and we outplayed that team. We are better than last year. Let's smoke Coastal and UL and reclaim the Belt.
GO APPS!

Re: Miami game thread
I was concerned about how we would match up size/speed wise as well but from what I saw on TV we were fairly equal.
They had us beat in a couple places but it seemed fairly close for the rest.

Re: Miami game thread
NY6 will always creep into everything. Realistically it is the highest achievement we can have currently so it will always be a topic of conversation. No way G5 makes it into a 4 team playoff.

I know. I really do get it. I'm just griping. I think what annoys me most is that some seem to repeat the same statements over and over as if we haven't heard them ad nauseum.

Re: Miami game thread
It’s always going to creep in because it’s basically the national championship for G5. If that’s not the ultimate aspiration for us every season I’m not sure I understand what we are doing.Yosef84 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 12, 2021 9:58 amI get the whole NY6 issue...really do. As long as we know we are good enough to be in contention (which is pretty much every year), it’ll always be a point of focus. The season isn’t spoiled by any means but NY6 should always be the aspiration for this program with Sun Belt championship the goal.

Re: Miami game thread
I also get the NY6 thing but I tend to agree with those who get tired of hearing it. Personally I wish it wasn’t there at all. It’s like a participation trophy for the little guys. The minor league teams have to slug it out all year and hope that one is deemed worthy to be allowed to play some 10-2 big boy. Again, totally understand the deal. If this is the de facto G5 NC we should instead have a final 4 among the best G5’s with the winner being awarded the NY6 game- and eliminate the conference championship games although. If App and Coastal end up as 2 of the 4 we move to that final 4. In my mind if we go that route a loss to Miami doesn’t make it impossible to get to the NY6. We accomplish 2 things- crowning the best G5 and determine the representative in the NY6.

Re: Miami game thread
It might not be as big a deal (NY6) if we knew we had a chance to play a quality bowl game against a quality opponent but that isn't going to happen - yet another Who Cares Bowl against a mediocre G5 team - that is the problem
