Ok, opening myself up for criticism. Been an App fan for 40+years, season ticket holder, yosef club member. But we are LOADED with talent this year and we let this 1-3 team play nearly even with us til halftime. Here's where I catch heat, I'm afraid our coaches aren't top notch. I feel with Drink or Satterfield we would be crushing teams before halftime and be undefeated at this point. I love Clark is an App guy and I appreciate his dedication but I am seriously doubting his coaching ability. Will we win 9+ games this year? Probably. But do I think we beat Coastal and Louisiana, I have my doubts. I'm betting next year some of you will be questioning this as well since we will be losing a TON of players. I will be pulling for Clark and our boys with all my might but in the back of my mind I still have my doubts.

Re: Brice @ GAst
We really do have the talent to smash teams early. What I liked to see is that Ponce took shots early with Corey. Ther eis no reason to hold back and only unleash Brice to Sutton when we need a momentum shift or a game is tight. Corey plays hard from the start and we should be attacking defenses when his legs are freshest. He absolutely smoked that DB and showed his next level speed and route running.
Henni is a chain moving monster in the mids, Corey is solid there too but he and Malik can take the top off anytime. There are many times we can utilize that stacked box to hit more play action throws. I'm definitely playing amateur coach here, and my house is not the Holiday Inn.

Not sure if you realize that Ga State was ahead of Auburn with 45 seconds left in the game??? - Auburn actually only scored ONE TD against the Ga State defense ---

Re: Brice @ GAst
And we had 2 skill positions out the whole game. That didn’t help. Thought the run game did well with 3-5 string RBs the second half.

Well if 2 of our 3 RBs are dinged X, Henni, Malik and V will get plenty of early action

Re: Brice @ GAst
We score 40+ on the road against a decent 1-3 team. Two losses to P5 teams that are decent P5 teams. An Army team that is 4-1. Also, wasn't the QB (supposedly better QB) out past couple of weeks. He was back today. We played without one of our better receivers (and one of the best returners in the game).
We played without our No. 1 RB. Our potential No. 2 (or tie with Noel) has been out with leg injury all season. One of our better RBs transferred to La. Tech. We have probably missed on some potential RB recruits based upon what our depth chart may have been with 4 and 8 projected to be in backfield. With an injury to 6, we really only have 20 that is decent...and he may not be most durable given size. You can see dropoff if 44 has to step in as No. 2......and we still scored 40+ on the road.
From defensive perspective, we did not give up TD until late in game when players in game that are deep in depth chart.
IMO, now that we made it to 4-1, our season starts this week. Personally, I would like to see balance on offense with a slightly heavy dose of 6 if healthy. I believe that Ponce needs to pull out even more plays from playbook. Although Brice probably will not run, did not see much read option look today if I recall correctly.
On defense, my concern is secondary. Marshall appear to have quite a few open WRs In some cases Wells was off target and other cases, he missed the reads. Not sure LaLa QB misses them...and 10 from chickens will definitely not miss them. For like the 5 game in a row, 6 plays 10+ yards off the line of scrimmage. I understand not wanting to get best deep...but a first down away from coverage. There were no worries today as there QBs were not good passing QBs.
In terms of saying we are loaded with returnees....many of the teams (especially G5) are loaded with super seniors...so the opponents have good players too...

Re: Brice @ GAst
I've been impressed with Coach Ponces growth as a play caller from the start of the season. It's clear he is learning and is getting more confident to call the right plays at the right time.
Clark's said in the post game presser that Peoples was about 65%, Nate had a "pinky toe" injury & Daetrich Harrington is ready and wanted to play but was held out.
Good teams find a way to win and that's what we have done this year. Castle and the ND RB transfer really impressed me...hopefully we'll have a greater sense of urgency in regards to play calling earlier in the game moving forward.

Here comes the criticism. This take is ridiculous. If you’ve been a fan for 40appstate5 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 02, 2021 7:01 pmOk, opening myself up for criticism. Years and this is your position then you don’t know anything about football. Here’s a newsflash. The other team practices too. Ga State had auburn beat last week. We came off a crazy emotional win at home over a game Marshall squad. We gave up exactly one touch down in garbage time and won by 30 with several backups. ON THE ROAD! Posts like yours only prove that just because you go to games doesn't meant you know anything about football. We’re you expecting a 60-0 win? This post really aggravates me because you’ll bask in the win but you are already hedging your bets
If app loses either of their next two games. Take your take to the trash

Re: Brice @ GAst
No way I'm criticizing the coaching staff as sub par. Was the pass to Chase a bonehead call....yeah. I'm sure they're kicking themselves over that right now. Of course if it had gone for big yardage, nobody would be saying this. Drink is making the big bucks right now, but the first two games of his tenure at App were downright ugly! We sputtered past ETSU and Charlotte before finally clicking just in time to beat UNC and make our run. This season, we got off to a faster start than I've seen in a long time. The coaching staff has made huge strides since last year. Maybe the coaching turnover will catch us eventually, but I don't believe it has caught us yet.

Re: Brice @ GAst
The pass to Brice was not bonehead call. If Malik makes a good pass Brice is not in a vulnerable position. This play has been in the playbook for years, it is mostly run to the corner.

Re: Brice @ GAst
Did notice Clark said that Harrington wanted to play in second half but he wouldn’t let him since we were up. Said he’d be back for ULL.
