Re: AAC just lost their big 3
SBC may stand pat at 10 since the AAC has done CUSA a favor by removing Texas travel. Hopefully Gill and the SBC presidents can come together in agreement on adding USM and Marshall. Get the conference to 12 and pause while looking at going to 14. Before possibly moving to 14, up the entrance fee while taking a look at 2 new additions from the list of: JMU, LaTech, ODU and WKU.
Since LaTech isn't likely to be invited due to the disdain the west has for the fine folks in Ruston, if the West can be convinced to bring in the Bulldogs, they can stick it to LTU with a higher entrance fee and forcing them to open conference play on the road against ULM. WKU seems to have left in good standing but the higher entrance fee would be a penalty for leaving the last time. Both programs would improve bball and be decent football adds. If it's JMU or ODU, we always hear about their great athletic budgets so they should be able to afford a higher entrance fee. Both bring good bball and fan support. All of these programs except LaTech gets the SBC into a new state/market.

Re: AAC just lost their big 3
But as a conference game it may not be in September, so it wouldn’t be as hot. Not that it would make a huge difference, but October/November would be much more ideal.

Per reliable sources, USM and Marshall to Sunbelt. SBC won’t add anyone else.
Mountaineers getting a new conference rivalry game.
The battle for the East in the Sunbelt will be fought between:
App State
Georgia Southern
Marshall
Georgia State
Coastal Carolina
Troy

USM and Marshall to SBC seems imminent. Personally, I don’t expect any others added at this point. Rumors also that UTA and Little Rock are gone.

Re: AAC just lost their big 3
No matter how you look at it - the 6 teams to join the AAC are still the "fall back plan" - since the first choice declined. Seems to be an odd choice - except for the TV market.

Re: AAC just lost their big 3
Bizarre that they went with 6. Really seems like they wanted to cut off the MWC from Texas.
You could almost say this was this first realistic choice. The MWC attempt was close but didn't really seem worth it for them. Or we could count it as the third choice if we throw in the attempt to woo the Big 12 leftovers lol

Could just be proactive backfill for when Memphis and SMU leave.citroknight wrote: ↑Tue Oct 19, 2021 8:23 pmBizarre that they went with 6. Really seems like they wanted to cut off the MWC from Texas.

Back in September, it was allegedly leaked that Marshall, SOuthern Miss, ODU and JMU were invited by Sunbelt. If it’s true that Marshall and Southern Miss join, why not ODU and JMU? Perhaps they were backup in case Georgia State and Coastal left? If so, we ended up in a really good scenario.

Also, interesting that the Power 6 is bringing in the powder puff 6. The new conference name will be Conference USAAC.

I don’t think that those with voting rights are OK with going to 14.NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Wed Oct 20, 2021 6:27 amBack in September, it was allegedly leaked that Marshall, SOuthern Miss, ODU and JMU were invited by Sunbelt. Re: AAC just lost their big 3
That would make sense. Though it's far from a certainty they'll have a place to leave to. If the Big 12 wanted more beyond the 4 they added, they would've added them all at once like the AAC did. Bowlsby made a comment about a potential second round and Boise/Memphis fans have hung onto this like it's 100% gonna happen since they got left out.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 19, 2021 9:13 pmCould just be proactive backfill for when Memphis and SMU leave.citroknight wrote: ↑Tue Oct 19, 2021 8:23 pmBizarre that they went with 6. Agree. Who knows what will happen. I can’t see where Memphis was happy with being left out and then to see the backfill options.citroknight wrote: ↑Wed Oct 20, 2021 8:33 amThat would make sense. ODU brings nothing. Adding Western Kentucky would be the way to go.moonshine wrote: ↑Tue Oct 19, 2021 3:02 pmSBC may stand pat at 10 since the AAC has done CUSA a favor by removing Texas travel. Marshall and ODU have interest. I don't know about USM or the others. The two non-football 'Belt members are politely being shown the door. CUSA is in meltdown with every school looking at a back-up plan as one would imagine.

Perhaps I’m wrong, but I think we are 5-0 against teams in the new AAC since we became FBS.

We get more money per team if we stay at 12....bigger piece of the pie.
