Not even close to the level or video team is putting out, but I appreciate the effort

Re: SoMiss/ODU/Marsh/JMU announcements
So is Marshall and JMU actually joining? Based on the title sounds inevitable.

Marshall has announced its intention to join. JMU has approved the move internally they need approval by some board in VA still.

Sounds like the approval by the state cannot happen until after elections on Tuesday.

Re: SoMiss/ODU/Marsh/JMU announcements
Thought y'all might find these numbers interesting.
Below are the average miles driven for Sun Belt football teams in conference road games for 2021 and 2023 (projected).
App State: 2021: 557.....2023: 412
Ark. State: 2021: 463......2023: 466
Coastal: 2021: 500........2023: 462
Ga. Southern: 2021: 549......2023: 462
Ga. State: 2021: 409.......2023: 423
Louisiana: 2021: 473.......2023: 471
La.-Monroe: 2021: 566.......2023: 433
S. Alabama: 2021: 427......2023: 400
Texas State: 2021: 827......2023: 755
Troy: 2021: 476......2023: 440
JMU: 2021 (CAA): 290......2023: 516
Marshall: 2021 (CUSA): 683......2023: 521
ODU: 2021 (CUSA): 1,031......2023: 567
So. Miss.: 2021 (CUSA): 433......2023: 438
It's a lot of numbers and they aren't strictly an apples-to-apples comparison. The 2021 numbers represent a true snapshot of this season, but only one season. The 2023 numbers, since we don't know the schedule yet, represent an accurate average of the 14-year cycle.

Re: SoMiss/ODU/Marsh/JMU announcements
I'd love to see that breakdown with miles flown and total miles traveled. I know we have no way of knowing what west team we play in 2023 but it would be interesting to speculate.AppGrad78 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 29, 2021 3:36 pmThought y'all might find these numbers interesting.

Boone to GaSo 337 mile drive (5 hours 39 minutes)
Boone to GaSt Football Stadium (288 miles 4:55)
Boone to Coastal (286 miles 4:40).
Boone to ODU (349 miles 5:33)
Boone to JMU (281 miles 4:17)
Boone to Marshall (269 4:38)
Most likely routes
There is almost a common rhythm to each road game in the East

Re: SoMiss/ODU/Marsh/JMU announcements
Sounds like, at best, flying once a year to a west division team and to our bowl game. We made out like bandits on this one. ODU is definitely the most improved though.WASU 93 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 29, 2021 4:50 pmBoone to GaSo 337 mile drive (5 hours 39 minutes)

Side effect of going for regionally strong programs. Well done SBC.

Re: SoMiss/ODU/Marsh/JMU announcements
And then there were three...
https://www.dnj.com/story/sports/colleg ... 201051001/
Conference USA might be down to three members. I'm not sure they can recover from this. They might survive as a Football only conference for the three remaining schools and 2 or 3 independents hungry for a conference plus some FCS schools willing to do anything to move up.
I don't see a home right now for the remaining 3 members.
I'm kind of enjoying watching the conference crash and burn.

Don’t think cusa would be able to talk that many FCS to move up. Not sure what the independents think of going there.

Re: SoMiss/ODU/Marsh/JMU announcements
Doug Gillin has done a great job of making friends with the ones that matter. I think we have a great standing with the powers that be....ESPN....Other University Presidents/AD's....and didn't knife old friends....Looking at you Georgia Southern and Troy.
He also did it by hurting some teams that hurt us while we were trying to move up. Not sure that was part of the grand plan but I am pretty sure WKU, MTST and Ltech all voted against us in Conf-USA.
I would be interested to know what Georgia St. really wanted in this last realignment...Anyone know????
I truly think this is the best fit for us...The future is so bright the SBC needs to wear shades. Someone design me an SBC logo with sunglasses on.

Re: SoMiss/ODU/Marsh/JMU announcements
The AAC really only looked at 2 things when picking members. 1st, how big is your media market. 2nd, how good are the high school players in your state.
Georgia State should have been towards the top of their list. They are in Atlanta and Georgia high school football is really good.
Georgia State did not make the 6 school cut.
They are the only school in the Sun Belt in a major market. They are the only school with a football team that's not a football 1st school.
Georgia State has to be happy to make it through realignment with a home. I'm sure they were hoping they would end up in a different conference.

AND...supposedly by going to 14 football teams means that ESPN is going to increase the TV revenue significantly to the SBC...and I hope better bowl tie-ins as well although I've heard nothing about that.
