So you want to pay $5 for M&Ms?
Yes. Get the big bag and sell for $5. I'm telling ya, the key to fixing this is to make the process simple. If that is too much for anyone to pay, they don't have to buy them. Most people sure as heck are not waiting in hour long lines to buy them now.

And I hate to say this, but no ice, no cups, just bottles of water or soda. We can't handle cups with ice with our current set up.
I normally sit in the NEZ, but gave up my seat last game and sat on the East side. I didn’t venture up to get anything but I did see the line issue. The food in the NEZ is insanely expensive but I don’t have to wait.
We elected to try the NEZ food for CCU after choosing to eat in town before Marshall game. I believe the cheese steaks we had were like $137.91...lol not that bad...but we have decided to eat a pre-game meal going forward.
$137.91 for how many cheesesteaks?!?!?

I was being sarcastic. It was for two. They were like $20+ a piece. They were okay. On the positive, free popcorn and ice cream sandwiches... When I purchased the NEZ , I was skeptical about viewing lines given seating location, etc. I purchased so the wife could go inside during inclement weather. The NEZ is awesome. Glad I decided to buy.

Lines would move quicker if the workers didn't have to disappoint people by telling them "We have Pepsi products".
So, if we go back to Coke products the lines die down. Makes sense.

I've defended concessions since Sept, but this past week was bad. My seats are last row bottom level on east side so I get to see it first hand all game. Ran out of hot water PRIOR to kick-off. The line was longer than I've ever seen it . . . clearly a quality staffing issue. 2 people taking orders, one person wrapping hotdogs at the rate of 2 a minute, and one person taking bottled drinks our of the cooler and handing them to the front (got to work late). I will say I never wait more than 1 minute for a beer. Obvious the margins for beer get the attention. Still, I can't help but wonder how much $ is walking out the door on reg concessions. Pay more, get church youth groups in there for free working for tips, priority seats for students that work 1 game, something.

I figured you were being sarcastic, but with current market prices and with it being a sporting event, I wanted to make sure. $20 still seems steep, but I get it. I hope to experience the NEZ in the near future. Amazing how far we have come as a program.

Yes. Agree. The unlimited fountain drink is nice. The pretzel with beer cheese was good. Honestly, the lack of waiting in line for anything is worth the price of admission.

That's pretty crazy that we're selling any kind of sandwich for more than $15

I guess they figure that if you can afford the seat, you can afford the sammich. The NEZ is catered by a different group I believe.

Like what?
I've suggested this before: Back in the late 80's/early 90's there were long wooden tables full of small (16 oz, I believe) Souvenir cups with Ice (and they may have already been filled with Coke/Sprite, etc). As you walked in under the West Concourse, you veered to the right, picked up a cup, paid in Cash and went to your seat.

There's no reason these stations can't be set up under each concourse, cash only (yes, it's old school) with Coke/Diet Coke and water bottles. No one would ever stand in line longer than 5 minutes.

Also, Drink Vendors in the stands (although I hate the distraction) could be a possible solution.

For the record, my 10-year-old wanted Pizza yesterday. So, we headed down from the East Grandstands, saw the Stephen Jones TD. Hit the bathrooms under the East Side (concession lines were minimal at that time), walked over to the Hungry Howie's Food Truck, Stood in line during the band performance, grabbed a $10 Pepperoni Pizza and were back in our seats comfortably before the second half kick.
Back in the late 80s and early 90s a typical crowd was in the neighborhood of 12-15k. There's really not room in the concourses for tables like that now with the attendance double that.
Actually during the late 80s and early 90s we were regularly getting around 20,000 per game and at times closer to 25,000. Concessions were run much better. For some reason it takes a long time to serve each customer even without having to count change. Should not take more than 60 seconds to fill any order with the limited options available.
According to the media guides the average attendance was:

15,666 (1986)
13,313 (1987)
15,494 (1988)
12,775 (1989)
17,091 (1990)
15,562 (1991)
18,638 (1992)
13,446 (1993)
There were many games during those years with over 20,000 in attendance and several games with 24,000 to 25,000 (the largest crowds until recent years). Does not make sense to put the beer stand directly in front of the concession stand so both lines are in the same area.

Ice and cups do not seem to be the problem it looks like the problem is on the back end…popcorn & nachos taking too long to prepare because of the demand. Nacho cheese takes time to warm (microwave is not the best way to do it) and popcorn takes time too. Credit cards seem to take longer than cash for some reason. Going cashless has not helped this same issue at Carolina Panthers games. Other venues with much larger crowds are able to handle multiple sizes of cups and ice with few problems.

We can pick at this all day. It is a management issue, and bottom line is that they are not capable, or they don't care. Now what do you do in that case? Well in the private sector you solve it or they find someone who can. This is not private sector so I don't look for this to be solved any time soon.

Even in public sector if the contract person is worth their salt there are remedies in it and a termination clause which should say this can be terminated with written notice for any reason. It was in all my public sector contracts. But then you have another process to go through afterwards. I think you’re right this is likely to be the status quo this year.

One thing I noticed on the east side is that App fans don't pay attention. I recommended this earlier in the season that they could put lines down on the ground to snake the lines to keep them from extending across the concourse since we can't use ropes for fire code reasons. Kudos to the admin for putting lines down and trying to ease flow, however, not a single fan used them. So now I guess we need to suggest that DG hire some people to direct the traffic and follow the lines. Obviously this won't help with moving lines faster but if our fans paid attention, it would definitely help with the flow of traffic under the east stands.
