Not talking about the student section here, but watching on TV Holmes has no atmosphere. You can almost hear individual people shouting. I know in the NBA they're allowed to play music during game play - are they not allowed to in college basketball?

It could be mic placement and mic quality too. A good mic placed too close to your mouth will sound like you're shouting into it even if you aren't.
