Not sure what people were expecting. The team was not that good last season during the regular season. They were good only during a few days during a conference tourney. I hope they get better.

I think a lot of fans were interested in getting out and supporting the team after they had post season success. The ETSU game was fun earlier in the season.

It's beginning to appear that this team really over-achieved in the conference tournament last year vs. getting everyone on the same page. The run last year was great because the team played incredibly gritty defense and hit big shots and free throws down the stretch.

For an offense that is predicated on hitting the three, this has to be one of the worst shooting teams to try that approach. Either Kearns does not have the right personnel for his system or he needs to adjust the system to match his personnel.

I agree on the offensive side. Personally I am not a fan of how we set picks at top and do not really roll. It seems we set the pick, the other guy with ball may pass it back to guy that picks (but that guy is not open for the three) or try to dribble with not much help from other 3 players on court. The guys without the basketball need to be using picks and screens to get more open. If we are going to use much if play clock (like UVa), the off the basketball screens need to be better. To much ball watching. Easy for me as a fan to be a social media coach and only talented enough to play HS bball. So what do I know. The game is harder the it looks...especially when we seem to play only 5 to 7 players in main rotation.I hope they improve and have a crazy run in March.
My comment was not about supporting the team. I believe we need to support the team no matter how good we are in terms of wins and losses. I actually think Boone could be a great home court advantage if a raucous crowd were to show up. Not easy for teams to get there adds to the atmosphere if Holmes could fill up. For games outside of holiday break, it seems the students have shown up. Since I live almost 7 hours away, I am relegated to watching on ESPN+

LaLa has a decent team; predicted to be one of the SBC's three or four top teams by season's end. Not so for tomorrow's game. Our guys had better put their only focus on ULM...one of the weaker teams in the conf. and should be a fairly comfy home win...but they, like most collegiate teams, aren't making the trip to lose if they can help it.

Back to my "fairly comfy home win" comment; that's if the good guys can hit some shots. On the other hand, if we shoot 33% from the floor and 53% from the stripe again, we'll just that quickly be 0-2 in the league.

Oh, and if Kerns and his staff aren't on top their game then we can't expect our players to be up!

I was at the game live....Louisiana was two hand checking Almonacy. I was a little disappointed in Kearns for not being more vocal to the refs. I am biased but it looked like we were being two hand checked a lot and could get no separation to drive and dish. Also Louisiana is BIG....not just tall but big. It didn't hurt that they did not miss in the first half.

We are a streaky bunch and can make a run. Our players that can shoot have a hard time dribbling and creating space. I don't call out players by name anymore but my favorite App player losses the ball often dribbling in traffic.

The success of our Basketball team really does rest on the fans and alumni's shoulders. If I were a recruit and came to see the game Thursday night in that empty stadium/arena, I would look elsewhere. Kearns is doing his best to get fans interested. I live 3.5 hours away and don't know the answer but $5 dollar tickets Thursday night and a fun atmosphere but no one there. (Kudo's to the fans that were there...they were having fun. Many children/family's)

My best fix is to give ticket vouchers to all area schools and hope their parents buy a $5 ticket to come to the game with their child and build local interest over time through the youth. Our alumni will always struggle to get up the Mtn. for weeknight games.

I was at the game as well....you can't just give away cheap tickets and produce an effort like that and expect to gain fans. We were still on Christmas Break while the Cajuns came to play a basketball game. Simple as that.

Worst half I have seen since the Foxx era , nightmarish. They were very physical and the refs let em play.We had no answer and yes it was a missed opportunity to build some fan support locally.I drove 5 hours round trip myself and was wondering why on the way back.
