It was an interesting choice to leave but apparently the transfer from D2 West Florida, who was an All-American in D2, beat him out so he left. I am going to guess that he either starts at Troy or retires like Brennan did at LSU when he got beat out last week.

So he has less than a month to learn an entirely new playbook and develop team chemistry before we play them at home on Sept. 17th. Interesting to come in this late in the season on his last year of eligibility. I assume with those facts he'll definitely be the starter.

I am safely assuming that as well. I would think Troy does not bring him in if they did not feel they were in major trouble at QB. I wonder what their projected starter as of last week thinks about this.

Definitely throws a gut punch in the locker room I would imagine, unless the entire team turned on the guy (all conjecture, I know nothing about them)

Kind of a shame though, I thought they were poised to take a step forward this year. I miss those early App Sunbelt years when they were competitive.

I like that the portal sometimes provides a last opportunity for players nearing the end of their college careers. There are downsides as well, but this is a big upside. Too bad Brennan at LSU let Coach Kelly talk him into pulling his name from the portal.

Definitely has some benefits. Has also been cases where players enter thinking an equal or better team will offer and they end up in D2 or FCS. This should work out well for Doege. Just looks bad he got beat out by a D2 player. I’m sure he fully expected to start

Keep in mind the incumbent starter has thrown for close to 4000 yards over the last two seasons. I'm not sure its a slam dunk the transfer is going to be the starter.
