Sure, but he wasn't a true legit Heisman hopeful when we played them in 2019 in his 4th game. The best thing I learned about Sam while watching that game was that his Dad played for us back in the day and he grew up liking App. That right there is the best Sam Howell stat in my book.WVAPPeer wrote: ↑Tue Aug 30, 2022 12:31 pmI think some of you might be forgetting about who Sam Howell was ---

Everyone knows who he was in high school but to be a real Heisman candidate you need to do something in college. Howell did not get any votes for ACC POY that season so I don't think he was a real candidate.WVAPPeer wrote: ↑Tue Aug 30, 2022 12:31 pmI think some of you might be forgetting about who Sam Howell was ---

Why is this thread becoming the Sam Howell thread. He’s Meechs son, that’s all we need to know. He’s not even on the team anymore.

Because we are apparently obsessed with every Carolina quarterback, including ones who are no longer there or one’s who don’t play

Re: UNC game discussion
Stars don't mean squat except for recruiting rankings.
I'd much rather have a hungry 3 star that works hard and wanted to prove something, than a four or five star that feels entitled or thinks he's just all that because of his recruiting ranking.
Maye reminded me a little of Zach Thomas. I don't think he will run much, but when he does he has some wheels. Need to make sure we have an APP for that!

I am not obsessed with unc QBs - I don't care --- and No, Howell wasn't a Heisman candidate as a freshmen --- I just don't understand why any of our fans want to downplay a big win for us - Just don't understand it????

This...This is what I am talking about. I hope it is a LOOONNNGGG day for the UNC quarterback. App needs to get there. FAMU put some pressure. I hope we can finish..............with sacks or poorly thrown balls.Longrifle28 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 29, 2022 1:27 pmI wonder who is going to step up this week like Meech did in 2019. Re: UNC game discussion
Agree on that part. It was a big win for many reasons. Anytime we can beat a P5 it is a big win and suppose to be an upset but luckily some P5s recruit poorly and mismanage so we are able to beat some of them. This would be the bigger win because we are so far in this Mack Brown era. We all even admitted last time that the next game in 2022 would probably be a lot tougher for us when he got his own recruits in.
What I find funny is the fact that they have some fans worried if somehow Downs and Duck don't play because that should still not be enough. There is zero excuse or reason they should lose to us, if the stars are accurate when you consider their resources. We will see if they have misused their resources and the stars are accurate on Saturday.

They wasn’t really a shot at you. We have just been spending a whole lot of time talking about random UNC qb’s. But you are right, freshman or not, the win in Chapel Hill was amazing!

Good gravy...Mack Brown would try to sell sand in the desert
“They’re experienced with confidence and we’re not. We haven’t won on the road, all odds are against us this weekend. We’re banged up, taking a first-year QB to Boone, they have a sixth year guy… We are going to have to play great to have a chance to win.”

Re: UNC game discussion
With all due respect, I'm not buying that UNC has greater talent than we have. The star system of recruiting often depends on the stomach ache the rator has the day he is working from home. Talent is a mixture of potential and preparation. Our guys prepare like there is no tomorrow. Every game is seen as the most important game. We are a development al program. Any so called 3 star, if he works his a## off becomes a 4 star by his third year. We have seen this over, and over, and over again. I'm still of the anyone, anytime, anyplace crowd. If we don't win the Holes will go home with broken bones and bloodied noses. If we win, which I expect, the Holes will go home with embarrassed broken bones and bloody noses. Nuff said. Bring on Saturday!

UNC has no concept of football culture. They assume that February recruiting rankings should equal wins in the fall.
I’ve not seen anything that resembles toughness from a Mack 2.0 team.

Re: UNC game discussion
You are indeed right and I brought it up before that on paper with the ratings they SHOULD have superior talent and win by 20, but, these schools miss and sometimes take players that are divas that just don't develop like they should. Just look at Nick Hampton, Peoples and Hodges being 2-star players because of their offer lists that have now become NFL prospects with 4-star talent. Regardless of what happens, it is just funny that a school with 1/5 the resources and not a single player they wanted out of high school coming from the ACC is worried about a G5 team like us who will never get a P5 invite. It shows how far we have come overall and how they have truly made a ton of mistakes in recruiting and hires over the years.appstate77 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 30, 2022 3:28 pmWith all due respect, I'm not buying that UNC has greater talent than we have. Bear picks the visitor, good value at a pick'em. Neither host has good things to say about Chase. If he comes out and performs with a whole new class of WRs in game one that should end that discussion. Go to minute 27.
