What has the world come to?
Just got back from Boone, after moving my son into Justice Hall Dorm. A surreal experience, to say the least, having lived in Justice for two years back in the late '70's. I was taken aback to find that this former jock dorm, a bastion of masculinity, has now gone co-ed. In fact, girls and guys on the same floor. And no more communal showers, which is probably a good thing, but hey, that's the way it was back in the day. This in unthinkable, and I'm still having trouble getting my head around the concept of a co-ed Justice Dorm. What's the world coming to, anyway?

That must be relatively recent ... Our son was in Justice for the 06-07 school year. I believe Justice was still all guys at that point.
If serving is beneath you, then leading is beyond you.

I was in Justice back in 07' and it was still all guys. I'm pretty sure it changed the year before last.

Looks like the dorm could use a major upgrade. Looks like the same furniture from 1978

You Justice fellas had it made. We were sleeping on our sides in Gardner/Coltrane, the rooms weren't wide enough for us to sleep flat on our backs.

I stayed there in 05-06. I always thought it coud use a demolition. The building is one of the oldest on the App State campus if not the oldest, and it is full of asbestos. Why not build a high rise in its location instead?DoubleA wrote:Looks like the dorm could use a major upgrade. Looks like the same furniture from 1978

It's definitely not the oldest. The old part of Newland Hall is the oldest, IIRC. It's quite old, though has been retrofitted nicely.ASU-FTW wrote:I stayed there in 05-06. Justice 93-95. Wasn't aware it had gone co-ed. They could probably almost double the capacity with a new building considering the size of those rooms. My wife lived in Eggers and I can remember her jaw drop when she first saw my Justice hall room!

Re: What has the world come to?
I stayed in both Gardner and Justice. Very true on Gardner and Coltrane. Justice had a lot more room, even a sink in the room! It seemed like the crazies were always in Coltrane. However they had a more cohesive environment that Justice. If you didn't have your people in Justice, then it sucked to live there as there was only the one common area downstairs. However, the lack of elevators made sure you got a workout in every day.GlassOnion wrote:You Justice fellas had it made. Going back to the original point now. Having been apart of several residential communities during my time, I do know that studies and research have shown that having mixed floors actually fosters a more productive and cleaner environment for students.
I remember on my last day in Justice in Spring 2007 (I lived in Justice the same year as AE) and trash was being taken out, some rooms had trash bags piled to the ceiling. I'm pretty sure after the first week, some people forgot what color the floor was as they never took out trash.

Pretty sure this will not happen since they are tearing down one across the stadium lot and not replacing it.Blackandgold wrote:I lived in justice fall 07- spring 08. It needs to be leveled and redone

Gotta build more housing somewhere don't they? Unless they are trying to get more ppl living off campus.huskie3 wrote:Pretty sure this will not happen since they are tearing down one across the stadium lot and not replacing it.Blackandgold wrote:I lived in justice fall 07- spring 08. Worst part about Boone is the off campus housing monopoly that takes place. Apartments are twice as expensive as Comparable units at other colleges. That's frustrating as a student

When you look at Justice, it sits on a beautiful site, one of the nicest and largest on campus. The front lawn offers a great view over River Street and serves as a fantastic launching pad for snowballs! And I always enjoyed the huge trees outside my 2nd floor window, on the backside of the horse shoe. The dorm could stand a major upgrade, but hopefully it won't be demolished. I always considered it somewhat of a landmark as you come down River St. and up Stadium Dr.

Lived in Justice in 2009-2010, that was the last year it was an all-male dorm. That dorm has been around the block a time or two, needs to be upgraded soon.
