I don’t disagree, but they are a necessary evil for us.

Not sure where planned as I do not follow university planning. If not spoken for, put one up by baseball field where no one can see it. .....or required a substantial amount of greenery to hide them as much as possible

I hate'em too, for tailgating only. They are great for everything else. more decks=less ugly lots that can be used to beautify campus or build buildings.

Re: Stadium Expansion
One will be going in the lot behind Holmes...the "handicap" lot for Football gamedays. It will have a covered connection directly to Holmes for accessing the arena on those cold, dreary winter nights. Construction is expected to begin on this one fairly soon, I do believe.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Thu Sep 22, 2022 6:40 amNot sure where planned as I do not follow university planning. The second deck will be going where Raley Lot is now...using the upper portion of Raley adjacent to Peacock Hall. The lower portion of the existing Raley lot is going to be used for the day-lighting of the creek, all the way down from Jimmy Smith Park and running along Rankin until it reaches Varsity. The parking deck at Raley will contain an expansion of Peacock Hall and also connect to Peacock directly as well, or at least that was the plan as of the last rendering. I believe they are getting to the point of being close to giving the green light to move forward on this deck construction also.

Re: Stadium Expansion
I thought the handicap lot was up Hill Street in the "Hill Street Lot". Small Holmes Center Lot is for season ticket holder parking.

Re: Stadium Expansion
The lower levels on both sides have to be replaced, and the upper deck of the West needs to go. I could envision a stadium that has the general look of the East side (dressed up a bit though) on the West, South, and East. Having a double deck with open concourse seems like the best way to tie everything together, provide as much concourse space as possible, and also ensure the student seating remains in place (grows with SEZ). We could also have some sort of high top tables/bar tops along the top of the lower level that would be covered by the deck. Many new stadiums have this feature and it would be another type of premium seating they could sell.
The scoreboard could get raised above the new SEZ deck. If we could get 11-12k on each sideline and 8K in the SEZ we'd have around 32K seats before adding lower level seats in the NEZ. Add in the proposed East side Club/Luxury seating and then finally lower NEZ seating to get us around 36-38k in total. That would be all we need and a very attractive and loud stadium.

Maybe 10k season ticket holders and 10k students, in a 30k stadium, other than premium seats, why would we add anything?

Re: Stadium Expansion
We're averaging ~37k so far this year, with 4 more sellouts to go and possibly 5. I think we end the year averaging over 30k.appgrad95&97 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 22, 2022 9:24 amMaybe 10k season ticket holders and 10k students, in a 30k stadium, other than premium seats, why would we add anything?
We have games against ECU, NC State, at least 1 more WF, So Car, UNCC, Marsha/CCU/GASO every other year. I think we need to have ~35k seats for these.

Re: Stadium Expansion
Slow growth is good, and I think the municipality and the athletic department wants that. I'd rather the ROCK be filled to the brim every week than make it 40k+ and have empty seats.BallantyneApp wrote: ↑Thu Sep 22, 2022 9:48 amWe're averaging ~37k so far this year, with 4 more sellouts to go and possibly 5. +-35k is probably a good number for the near future. Anything over that and it seems like we would have a hard time filling it/might ruin the intimacy that Kidd Brewer is nestled in the mountains. No one likes an empty stadium on TV, just ask South Carolina against us in 2019 or against UGA last week at halftime.....OUCH.

Re: Stadium Expansion
Ahh...you might be correct. I haven't been by that lot in years on gameday so I remember the handicap busses always picking up right on the sidewalk in front of Holmes. But yes, the parking deck will be in the lot right beside Holmes.appgrad2010 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 22, 2022 7:47 amI thought the handicap lot was up Hill Street in the "Hill Street Lot". Re: Stadium Expansion
30k to maybe 32k is probably the sweet spot that would be adding 4k to 6k in actual seats.
The Raley/Peacock lot is ugly just as the stadium lot was very ugly. Yes, tailgating under a roof in a parking garage stinks but there are no other options.
Boone Creek has been flooding the lot and has flooded Rankin and Edwin Duncan numerous times in recent years. The culverts under the lot can no longer handle the increased runoff and heavier rains that have been more frequently occurring. This will be a huge campus improvement.
It would be great if there was a road diet project along Rivers Street that would narrow some sections between Stadium and Poplar Grove so that there could be actual parking spaces along Rivers Street.

Re: Stadium Expansion
Tailgating does not actually have to occur at one's tailgate. There will be outdoor space that can be used. It'll just take some adjusting of ideas and attitudes. There is simply not enough space in Boone for huge surface lots, not to mention the lack of aesthetics they bring.
