Re: Band in the Endzone
App State's game day experience can't be beat! The BOD is APPsolutely the best! They are "The Rock" that energizes the fans. From tailgate sites and the pregame show, the game and halftime show, and after the game the band is there giving us their all. From 213 it's great to watch and hear the band again. They look fantastic in the end zone. They are front and center now. The only recommendation that I have is that we limit the video board broadcast to give the band more opportunity to take the lead in spirit.

Loved having the band in the endzone. We couldn't hear them the past 2 years which really took away from the gameday experience. I also like them playing a few quick songs after plays to keep the energy up. Dr. KR is off to a good start, minus the purple flags.

Re: Band in the Endzone
I'm glad that no instruments were damaged as some feared.........The sound will get louder when we get back to 250 or so band members. Exscluding flag people I only saw about 150 band members. It was a perfect place for them and I took time to thank many of them after the game while they were scarffing up donuts.
Re: Band in the Endzone
In Section 210 we could hear the band very well. I am so happy to have the band in the end zone now. As others have said, we could not hear them when they were on the lower level of the East side last two years. It really makes the whole experience that much better when the band can be heard. And yes, we have to get the numbers up, we used to have close to 300 band/flag members, and the band was LOUD.

If you go to the marching band website it says the participating members amount to 285. We don't seem to be lacking like so many people suspect.

I'm old and was never good with math - that being said, I don't think there was anywhere near 285 members on the field last Saturday - they looked significantly less in numbers than a few years ago ---ASU-FTW wrote:If you go to the marching band website it says the participating members amount to 285. That number hasn't been updated since my son (2012 grad) came in as a freshman in fall 2007. That was the highest year while he was there. I've been told the numbers are actually lower than last year. It will take a few years to bring those numbers up.

Re: Band in the Endzone
Yeah, I took the time to count and give or take a few was around 150 plus 25 flag people.
100 more horns and drums ( no woodwinds please and I played clarinet) will make a big difference. They looked like they enjoyed being in the seats and appeared more engaged.

Re: Band in the Endzone
Disappointing to hear the numbers are so low. Can anyone tell me if music majors are required to participate in marching band for two years. I know that used to be the rule when I was at App.

All I can say is "it's about time!" They sounded great to me from the 111. They have to get rid of those purple flags though.
Re: Band in the Endzone
You can't go by the member number posted on their website. That's really outdated from the Scott Tobias years. What I was told by the director is that there are 225 members with everyone.
