Cam is definitely going to the NFL. I'm thinking there is a chance Noel hits the portal. Say we lose those 2 then I would say Roberts, Marshall, and Castle should be the RBs next year. Brice is definitely gone. Seems so long ago now when early in the year we had some on here saying Brice is definitely a day 3 pick because of UNC. I remember saying we need to wait and see how he does the rest of the year because he needs a big year to get drafted. Chase is having a solid year and he will get a shot but I don't see any chance he gets drafted.311neers wrote: ↑Sun Oct 09, 2022 11:26 amGot a bad feeling it won’t be just Chase that is gone. (Andy Reid does not count, NFL completely different). Sam Pittman only one that comes to mind, and it's a little early for him but he has Arkansas rolling. Clark can get there, but needs some work it seems.

Cam has NFL measurables, honesty better than any other running back in the country, but his injury history will kill his shot at getting drafted. Re: I want to know
Injuries will definitely hurt him but he is going to get a shot. It will be interesting to see where he goes because on his best runs he looks like a 3rd round pick but then he has injuries and times where he just looks like a late rounder. I bet someone would draft him late to take a flyer but if not he would be highly sought after as a UDFA. Hard to find those measurables. It will be interesting to see where he lands.GSUwasGump’sFallbackSchool wrote: ↑Sun Oct 09, 2022 12:10 pmCam has NFL measurables, honesty better than any other running back in the country, but his injury history will kill his shot at getting drafted. It kills you that those questions seem legitimate now. But i definitely support this staff and do not think we should be talking about firing coaches.

It amazes me how the same people who say we need better competition than the Sun Belt provides are the same people who loose their minds when we loose. We now have better competition.
The fact is this conference has gotten better just because Appalachian and to some extent Georgia Southern, are a part of this conference. This is just a setup for a better season this season and in the future.
Shawn Clark is not the issue. It is our expectations that we should win every game. We have been in every game we have lost and every game we have won. Remember when Billy Napier said, you cannot call it a rivalry between Appalachian and Louisiana until Louisiana actually beats Appalachian? The same is true with Texas State, Coastal Carolina, and everyone else that Appalachian has lost to and beaten. You are only as good as your next game. Who knows, Texas State may be who App beats for the Sun Belt Title in football this year?
Think about how many schools fire their coach on a whim because of a loss and it cripples their program for years. Just look at Michigan, Auburn, Arkansas, Tennessee, Florida State, Nebraska, Louisville, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, Miami, East Carolina, etcetera. Appalachian would not have what it has now had we gotten rid of Jerry Moore in '93 or '04. The same is true of Shawn Clark...

This league is a lot better but Texas State is not so good that they should have been one of our losses. Shawn started off pretty good going 9-3 and 10-4. I think anyone who expected us to go 11-2 this year was fooling themselves but there is no excuse to go worse than 7-5. However, due to the 2 surprise losses it is possible. Hopefully he turns it around. I don't think any of us want to see Shawn gone but if he goes 6-6 this year and worse in 2023 then there is no way he returns. There was not a ton of faith by the BOT to begin with and his buyout was negotiated down so I just don't think it is impossible to see a 5-7 or 6-6 season lose a lot of people their jobs this year.
I don't know if you are on 247 but one thing that David Ware has said a lot is that we don't lose recruits to our league foes very often and that we are getting the best talent we can. If that is true then coaching is the problem. If that is not true then our coaches are lying to him.
The good news is that we have a lot of games left and can salvage this season. I'm just more on alert for potential losses to Ga State, Ga Southern, and ODU now. It will be a hard pill to swallow going from the top of the league to falling behind one of the Georgia teams, Texas State, CCU, JMU, Marshall, etc in the same year.

That is part of it as well. If there is a good excuse for the TSU game that is isolated and we rebound with a strong finish then people will let this go. If the issues remain and we lose 3 more games then I can't imagine the conversations that will happen on here and in Boone. Could you imagine us completely missing out on a bowl game? If we don't improve some things that will very much happen this year and we have to win 7 games this year, unless we lose to Robert Morris.yosef69 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 09, 2022 4:26 pmMaybe we shouldn’t win every game but we have lost 5 of the last 8… and some in completely embarrassing fashion.AppWyo wrote: ↑Sun Oct 09, 2022 3:43 pmIt amazes me how the same people who say we need better competition than the Sun Belt provides are the same people who loose their minds when we loose. Re: I want to know
This is a really good post in my opinion. The only thing I would take issue (and I'm doing it for a reason) is the idea of two surprise losses. Given what JMU did to MTSU week one, and our Troy escape, no way JMU should have been over looked. And to blow a lead like that.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 09, 2022 4:55 pmThis league is a lot better but Texas State is not so good that they should have been one of our losses. Re: I want to know
Agree, we lost a lot of major contributors on defense. Situational defense has been a major weakness this year. Just look at time of possession 3rd qtr against the Citadel.t4pizza wrote: ↑Sat Sep 03, 2022 6:05 pmI was worried about our defense the entire off season, and it seems it was justified. We lost 6 of our top 7 tacklers and more importantly, we lost our defensive ends. I didn't see us get any pressure from our d ends the enitre game, our linebackers are awesome but can only do so much. And our DL line coach is really good, we just seem to lack playmakers at that position. I am concerned with Clark's big game record, but I find no fault in him going for 2 at the end of the game. In fact, I was very pleased with the aggressive call and in some ways it actually took some of the sting out of the loss. We laid an egg for the vast majority of the 2nd and all of the 3rd, but were able to come back and make a game of it. We have an offense, we just need to find a defense.
Them 14:45 Us - 0:15. We ran one play for 80 yards and a score. FCS level competition and our Defense couldn't get off the field.
I had hoped we'd see improvement but so far not much.

Re: I want to know
The reason I said surprise losses was based on what we knew entering the season. We also did not know if MTSU was any good at the time they did it and JMU had not played a tough schedule. We will still find out how good over the next few weeks. They have to show they can handle being ranked and having the target on their chests.appgrad95&97 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 09, 2022 5:13 pmThis is a really good post in my opinion. Say I'm wrong and Texas State is that good then we are way behind the rest of the league and we need to brace for the potential of the worst season we have had since the transition. The loss to Texas State puts us in a tough spot.AppWyo wrote: ↑Sun Oct 09, 2022 3:43 pmIt amazes me how the same people who say we need better competition than the Sun Belt provides are the same people who loose their minds when we loose.
What was our plan to not blow a big lead against a very sold team?
I'm not sure what our plan was not to blow the lead. I thought perhaps we just had a bad plan in the second half and JMU out coached us while also out playing us on the field.
