Re: Vent Here
Can we talk just a moment about the fickle nature of polls and media?
James Madison is ranked 25 after 5 games in FBS. Coastal Carolina is 6-0 against comparable competition, but not ranked. App was the “center of college football universe” a couple weeks ago, but now they don’t even mention the fact that we’ve fallen off. And when was the last time you heard any talking head mention Boise State? They’ve stayed consistently good for many years, but if you ain’t P5, you ain’t worth worrying about.

Only have one edge rusher - Hampton.
Out of fit Linebackers = arm tacklers.
Need a bigger hitting Safety.
One corner has trouble with man coverage.
Can’t get the other team off the field, defense has few 3 and outs.
Earle and S Jones are studs.
Must find a #1 back. Rotating backs 3-4 backs means they are all fresh, but no one gets in a rhythm.
OL is manhandled at guard and center positions. No inside zone gaps to run.
Stroman and Castle should be given more opportunities.
Pearson is a stud.
On field Intensity and discipline has slipped a little each year since 2018-2019. Transfer portal means most teams today are pretty equal athletically. Being physical and disciplined is critical to winning. We did neither tonight.
ALSO THE PENALTIES AND DISCIPLINE.
In the past it seemed like our two and three deep players were eager to rise to the occasion on Defense.....I'm not seeing that at all now. Other than QB position and one WR and one back up RB the TP hasn't benefited us much. Looking ahead to next year our talent and ability drops off the cliff. Outside of Jones the secondary is abysmal. Ross plays well at times but the rest look like high school players. Outside of Hampton the LBs are lost arm tacklers. Losing Harrington bites but hey it's football. To be fair I see why Coach Jones goes with so much zone coverage....he ain't got the talent to man up. And I don't know what has happened to the OL?????

Re: Vent Here
JMU is getting major credit for beating us. That is why I say if we were undefeated with their schedule we would be ranked higher. CCU did not play App State and beating the team who won the hearts of CFB in September is going to get you that bump. I thought it would take one more week, which it will with the coaches poll, but there is no question they are getting a bump for beating App State.MrCraig wrote: ↑Mon Oct 10, 2022 2:00 pmCan we talk just a moment about the fickle nature of polls and media?

Boise State has not deserved any mention the last few years. You have to win and that is why Gillin said what he did. Obviously we are far from it but if we are .500 or below this year and next year then there is no question Gillin would make a move. We have to win or we become completely irrelevant.

Re: Vent Here
Sad stuff, and I hate to see our fans beating up on each other. I know it hurts, I know it sucks, but it's not within our control. What is? Supporting those kids. Forget the coaching situation, the players really need support from the fans. I'd recommend shooting messages to the guys on SM if you're so inclined. I may have only played a few seasons in middle/high school, but I know having people believe in you made a huge difference. These are kids still, some older than others (lol, looking at you Brice
), but they need that push. Not smoke and fluff about how "great" they are, but legit support knowing we're there for them. It's been a rough few years, and we're now blessed/cursed with a stellar conference (IMHO). It's time for maturing, let's help the team on that path.

Re: Vent Here
Since the invitation to vent is open,
We win:
"Clark for president! Chase Brice is the Goat! Best Team in NC!"
We lose:
"I want the whole coaching staff fired. I want Drinkwitz back as HC. Any player that isn't ready to sacrifice there mind and body to my fandom should be cut or is open to hit the portal, we don't want you."
I think a lot of people on here need to go have a cold shower and take a deep breath. Don't get me wrong I am as frustrated as any other person, but Jesus I've never seen a fan base that is so damn quick turn turn and grab pitch forks. Not speaking for only towards the message boards and twitter but also the people that I sit around every home game. Its shameful really.
We are extremely fortunate to have had the last 5 years that we have had. Its unheard of. But I think that we all need to come to the realization that we are not going to go 10-2 every year. We are young! (Excluding a few guys, I know) there are lots of KIDs who are just seeing game time this year with more seasons to grow. We've had a hell of a first half of the year and played some tough games and we are battered and bruised. It F****** sucks! As frustrating as it is, I find it profoundly more frustrating that we have individuals who are calling for heads and even going as far as tweeting at players person accounts (Anonymously). I hope that our staff and players are smart enough to keep off social media and don't give these comments the time of day, but I can also see where recruits will be swayed away by this or worse makes the transfer portal look shiny. Im in no way advocating for mediocrity or settling but I don't feel like all is lost yet. We ask for competition and we got it, lets see how we respond to some adversity.
I am still very hopeful that we can have success this year and things will get turned around the 2nd half of the season, and I honestly hope there are a lot of people eating crow by the end of November. Anyway this is why I usually stay away from posting on here but I felt good to get on my soap box. See yall on 10/19 at the rock.
Take a breath. Have some faith. Be the App Nation that we are so proud of. Its not Armageddon yet.

But recent history is tough to swallow as compared to many of our conference mates.
I think the answer may be to schedule like Coastal

Seeing that this is a "Vent Here" thread, damned it is rich to read. Perhaps we also need a "Be an Adult Here" thread...or better "good lord, get a f'n Life Here" thread. Probably wouldn't get past page one though.

That silk feels so smooth .... ahhhh
Still praying for more sandpaper!!
This is the venting thread, right ???
Are jokes allowed?
I think we need to start a " the sky is not falling" thread, or is it? ...... one game at a time
Or maybe a "heckle and Jeckle" betting thread, which team shows up, silk or sandpaper ?
Still praying for coaches and players and equipment manager

Instead of changing conferences would it not be better for the Sun Belt to become a Power Five or Autonomous Conference. We have got fun football and fun teams. The best conference division travel and the national stage. Enjoy the ride. Appalachian is where it wants to be, besides, this is fun and it is going to get to be more fun the stronger the conference becomes. We did not win the Southern every year, but we made the playoffs most every year. When they expand the playoffs just wait and see how often App does not make the Playoffs. Like Ric Flair said, "To be the man, you have got to beat the man!" "Whooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!"

Re: Vent Here
I thought the Clark hire was a perfect match! He wanted/wants to be here. He is a APP man. AND we could afford him. I’m really pulling for him! That being said, I thought at the time of hire that only question that remaind was: Can he coach? I thought at the time, if he can; wonderful! But if he can’t, at 71, I don’t have enough years left to wait for him to learn how to coach! I have not seen anything, from day one, that shows me he can do all of the necessary things to coach a successful D-1 football program. We have won games and run-up gaudy records against teams we SHOULD BEAT. Maybe three wins you could hang your hat on. ( tam, Marshall, Coastal). I am personally sad about the whole situation. It never dawned on me that we could not compete but frankly we will not be able to keep up at the D-1 level. The rules have changed with NIL and the portal and it all gets down to money and in the real world we don’t have any! I’m beginning to wonder: what if we put that 30 million dollar athletic budget into academics each year!

We would not have 30 million dollars to put into academics if not for our football program. Your sports programs are your advertisement for the college or university and an opportunity for some students to have college paid for in part or completely. Winning sports teams beget winning students.pop5app wrote: ↑Mon Oct 10, 2022 5:19 pmI thought the Clark hire was a perfect match! He wanted/wants to be here. He is a APP man. AND we could afford him. Besides Satterfield could not beat a top ten team and Drinkwitz beat both North Carolina and South Carolina on down years.
Clark has had two seasons that no one could have predicted and this season is not over yet. It is hard to win football games and it is hard to get a winning coach. Clark is who App needs and who App wants. See where we are in three years from now and who we are in three years. Also the Sun Belt is where some of the best coaches at all levels come to build and rebuild their careers.
