I have to work near Chicago next week. I booked a direct flight from Charlotte, which is a 2 1/2 drive, so that I can make it to Boone Wednesday evening. I’ll be there as long as American Airlines and traffic cooperate.

Unfortunately, I think Hennigan is spot-on. When our recruiting classes are consistently ranked 75-105 we must have something more than raw talent to be a top 20-50 ranked program. We have (had) the App State culture. The churn in the coaching staff over the past five years and the transfer portal have likely diluted the culture and we're seeing this on the field and scoreboard.

I took two recruits from our high school to a game in the early 1980s. It was brutal - blowing snow and very cold, particularly for them (I was prepared). They left the stands late 1st Q and I went looking for them at halftime and found them both huddled around a heater in the corner of the men’s restroom. Thought “we will not sign these guys. They do not like this weather.” One went to UNC and the other came to App and became a 2 time All-American and is in our HOF. Danny Ford said many times that he missed out on him and regretted it for years, “especially after I watched him chase my QB all over the backfield his freshman year.”
