Re: Not the way to start...
We could use 1 back a quarter next week and they all get their 100. Marshall looked pretty gimpy

Let Cam get his 100+ and then pull him, we need him to get yards if we want our NCAA Best 1000 rushing yard streak to continue.

Would love to see a heavy dose of chop castle roberts next weekend (assuming marshall is hurt after that big hit). we get 4 games before roberts burns a shirt so next week is his 2nd game if we use him.

Re: Not the way to start...
Glad we did. If GSU had scored one more I would have hit about exact. Rough start and still a lot to improve but glad we finished strong. If we could just start and finish strong we could be really dangerous. There are issues but we got enough talent to win out or also lose 1-2 more.

Just got home. Great turnaround from those first 2 drives/most of the first half. Worry about passing game currently.

Ga state lost to UNC-C.
Has this program devolved to the point where the fan base hangs it’s hat on a second half beat down of ga state? 1-0 is great but this reminds me of everyone thinking last year was great when App ran up the score against weak conference teams. That season ended without a championship or a bowl win.
The downward spiral has off leveled off IMO. I am going to hold out for the coastal and Marshall games until I get excited again. Clark still has a lot of losses to answer for over the past 3 seasons
“Happy to be here” shouldn’t be what this fanbase seems to strives for.

Southern and ODU will be VERY tricky too. Can’t keep this slow start a thing or we’ll be lucky to finish .500BTK2000 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 20, 2022 12:18 amGa state lost to UNC-C.

That’s my take as well. App beat ga state! Yeah well, so has everyone else. I’m sure mallard creek hs could scare them.Howard Street Hooligan wrote: ↑Thu Oct 20, 2022 12:23 amSouthern and ODU will be VERY tricky too. Do it when it matters.
So far, this team hasn’t. Am I “spoiled fan” as many would describe. Probably, but this team has yet to put up when it matters all season. A second half beat down of a team with one winning Season should be expected for app.

I’m sure Sabin, Dabo and Kirby have the same mentality. This game only matters so that players get their individual stats. That’s how programs are built. Rings and the W/L record are pointless. This season is a waste if so and so doesn’t make 1k yards

First, I am thrilled that we saw some heart. It's been missing recently. That's a very good sign.
Now here's the but; we beat a bad team the way were supposed to, so I don't think we can get too excited. I'm still very concerned going forward when we play teams who can actually pass the football. The optimism meter went up a tick, but we still need to see something on the field against a throwing QB.

I guess Coach Clark and staff will be allowed to coach next week. I was glad to see that the staff didn’t panic when we got behind so quickly. Being a head coach is a learning process, I hope he gets it figured out in time. I was afraid he wasn’t going to be able to coach in the second quarter.

Man, reading this whole thread after the fact was quite a ride. Some of y’all may need to look into what else in your life might be going on that causes such wild emotional swings.
Yeah, GaSt’s got a bad record, but they’ve got some talented players and are capable of putting up a fight against anyone. I respect their program and Elliott. But the exciting part was not that we won but seeing some real life on offense and adjustments on defense.
This is supposed to be fun.

Re: Not the way to start...
Love to see the streak continue, but the way the staff is rotating backs in and out its going to be hard for any one runner to get near that mark.

Re: Not the way to start...
I hope he makes it with App. St. rotating the backs. IMO, this will mean that we are owning the line of scrimmage and hopefully sustaining long drives. This will also give D rest. At the end of the day, I like imposing our will whether good, bad or middle of the road team and will take a win whether by run or pass and with good D. On to the next one. Let's Go App. St.!!

Re: Not the way to start...
If my math is correct after Ga State scored to go up 14-0 they tallied 134 yards the rest of the game to include 30 garbage yards on their last possession. We had quite a few TFL and really got after them. While a balanced offense would be nice pounding the rock over and over with ball and clock control is awesome.

Re: Not the way to start...
It will always be a mystery to us fans, but I'd love to know the conversations that happened between the coaches after the first and second quarters. During the second quarter, the team started playing with some attitude, and after half time they looked like a different team. I'll always wonder who got chewed out and who did the chewing.

Re: Not the way to start...
There were definitely some positives from the game:
We beat the spread. We scored more (42) than what they average giving up (33). We put up more yards (466) than they average giving up (438). I think the cold dry air had a little to do with passing the ball (hands get dry and the leather gets dry and makes it hard to hold onto) and both teams struggled. They only averaged giving up 180 rushing yards per game and we ran over them for 404. Our defense held them well below (291) what they normally average (438) yardage wise. Won the turnover margin 4 to 1, and won time of possession by a wide margin.
We were slow starting and not very physical in the first quarter on either side of the ball. The second quarter drive where we finally started moving them off the ball and Cam made the punishing touchdown run seemed to ignite this team. The attitude and momentum shifted and they never recovered. We still struggle with a mobile quarterback.

Oh, we were right here, supporting our team snd not showing our dumb asses like some of you guys. Going back through these threads after a game brings home what an embarrassment some of you lousy fans are.
