VMI, winless on the season, defeated App State 26-23 in overtime and denied App State the Southern Conference title as well as an automatic bid for the 1-AA playoffs. We ended up getting a bid and traveling to New Hampshire in the first round, winning 17-10. We fell to #3 Boise State in Idaho 17-14 in the quarterfinals.bigdaddyg wrote: ↑Thu Oct 20, 2022 8:31 amOver the last, say 25 years of App football how many absolute shocking losses have we really incurred? VMI (when was that) is constantly mentioned. Pretty much any program outside of a few have probably laid an egg a few times over the same time period. I watched a little bit of RM V Campbell. I ain't playing in the game so I'll say we can look past them a little. We will take care of them pretty quickly and easily and the bench should get emptied.
The VMI loss handed Marshall their first outright conference title.
VMI had been blown out by an average of 35 points in their previous nine games before coming to Boone. ASU was ranked 10th in 1-AA at the time. Satterfield was 5-0 as a starter going into the game, but threw three interceptions, including one in the end zone on second and 7 in overtime to seal the victory for VMI. VMI finished the 1994 season 1-10.
I remember the VMI game very well as I was on the sideline taking photos.

Re: Prep for CCU
No way in hell Robert Morris can even come close to beating us. Yes, they are an FCS team, but they are horrible. I promise we would beat them with our 3rd string players in the game. You will see one at running back and QB next Saturday and hope to see several of our WRs too. Starters have no business playing after the first quarter. Just can't take a chance for an injury against this team.

Yosef's Cabin could beat Robert Morris, the problem is we'd be arguing who of us would be our coach based on all the knowledge we spew.AppState89 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 20, 2022 12:36 pmNo way in hell Robert Morris can even come close to beating us. Probably Troy as S Alabama needs two losses at least- imagine the CCG being played there. GeezBlack Saturday wrote: ↑Thu Oct 20, 2022 1:00 pmSun Belt games this week, who are we supposed to be pulling for or against?

JMU makes no difference apparently since they are ineligible. We actually need to root for Stink again to give ODU a loss. ODU plays S Alabama in the last week. We need help and can't lose another one but I think everyone is too close to expect that any of us will just run the table.

If it helps just pull for Southern, Marshall beating JMU doesn't really matter for us...still not easy pulling for GSU. It just goes against the natural order of things..

Technically Marshall beating JMU doesn't matter. However, a couple more losses for them would erase the "we were the best team in the conference and were simply ineligible" label we'd hear till the end of time. Thus, I'm pulling for Marshall.

That is exactly correct. I would be hearing it 100 times over. They need to lose.WataugaMan wrote: ↑Thu Oct 20, 2022 3:31 pmTechnically Marshall beating JMU doesn't matter. As far as CCU prep. We don't need to look past Rob Morris...Any given Saturday anything can happen.

Re: Prep for CCU
Actually we can't count this as a win in terms of bowl eligibility since we already have our FCS win for the year and we only get one FCS win a year for bowl eligibility.AtlAppMan wrote: ↑Thu Oct 20, 2022 8:36 amIf we can't count this one as a W then we don't deserve to be FBS. I don't normally say that but we better be able to show up and out talent this team. That is the sole reason we put them on our schedule. I am not saying don't prepare for them but I am saying that with reasonable preparation, this team should come out and dominate. I do think this gives us some extra time to prep for Coastal. Take advantage of this situation.
We need to go 7-5 to be bowl eligible essentially (assuming we win and we will bigger than The Citadel.)

Re: Prep for CCU
I can all but guarantee the coaching staff will be preparing the team for Bob Morris but looking at film and game planning for Coastal on the back end.
For Bob Morris, base everything will work so this week will likely be more about the fundamentals -- tackling, gaps, communication, reads, etc.

Re: Prep for CCU
Was talking with my dad about this last night. For RM we need to focus on fundamentals and communication. Fine tuning, if you will. Play some started for as long as needed, then get some players in random positions if you can (instead of wholesale changes) and see how they mesh with other starters. Finally swap them all out in the second half and get minutes.AppStateNews wrote: ↑Fri Oct 21, 2022 9:41 amI can all but guarantee the coaching staff will be preparing the team for Bob Morris but looking at film and game planning for Coastal on the back end.

Re: Prep for CCU
When the season began, I was not sure if I liked the set up with OOC game with RM this late in season, I actually like it. We get two 10 day breaks. Also if we have injuries, they can take week off to get healthy. I would be in favor of this in future...if not, we get a patsy for week 0 and a bye week at some point.

The contract for the Robert Morris game was only finalized March 3, two days after the schedule was announced.AppGrad78 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 20, 2022 9:22 amWe’re playing Robert Morris because the Colonials are the only team in the country willing to play us in Boone on this date. It is what it is, but what it also is, is a home football game.

They play or are playing A&T today and I noticed it was on ESPN+ if you desire a preview. They are winless going into today's game based on the article in the News and Record and likely to be winless when they visit Boone.T-Dog wrote: ↑Sat Oct 22, 2022 9:45 amThe contract for the Robert Morris game was only finalized March 3, two days after the schedule was announced.AppGrad78 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 20, 2022 9:22 amWe’re playing Robert Morris because the Colonials are the only team in the country willing to play us in Boone on this date.
