Wasn't Isaiah Helms wanted by Clark originally? But Drink passed on him and then Clark transferred him in when Drink moved on? Seems like I remember something along those lines.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Tue Oct 25, 2022 7:51 amGood analysis.JTApps1 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 25, 2022 7:29 amPlenty of Clarks recruits are getting playing time, but they're very young. We have relied on transfers to fill gaps...but all these guys are satt and drink recruits. I have been alone (in my group of friends) in saying shawn clark has done a horrible job. Class of 2022: Ethan Johnson, Marcus Clark, Omari Philyaw, Donovan Spellman and Kanye Roberts
Class of 2021: Dalton Stroman, Troy Everett, Deshawn McKnight, MIchael Hughes, KaRon White, Caden Sullivan, Kyle Arnholt, Jaquan Lowman, Trevor Moffitt, Jordan Favors, Jayden Ramsey and David Larkins
Class of 2020: Nate Noel, Damion Daley, Ronald Clarke, Kevon Haigler, Jalen McLeod, Christan Horn, Eli Wilson, DeAndre Dingle-Prince, Anderson Castle and Stephen Passeggiata.
We have 6 starters from the portal (two from 2021 and four from 2022) which is not that many compared to many teams. If you go to the portal you want instant impact from them.
I also find it interesting that people discount a coach when they have to go to portal. I get it if a complete roster overhaul like Tx. St, etc. It seems we have used portal to plug holes. Like any recruiting season, App. St. probably missed out on some portal guys they wanted... whether the kid felt comfortable somewhere else or the university would not agree to transfer credits, etc You have to recruit those guys as well. The recruiting period may be shorter but guys have to get comfortable with coaches, etc. Chase Brice has been a pretty good recruit. The backup QB from portal appears to be good with limited playing experience. I am sure there are others.

We’d likely have McCall as our QB if Clark not drink made that choice in 2019.

He is having to fill gaps from the portal because majority of Drinks recruits were bust (like didn't stick around/couldn't cut it).... And lets not forget that App has and continues to develop recruits. its not unusual for Fr SO to not see the field until the upperclassman years.AppSt12 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 24, 2022 9:46 pmLegit question here...as some of you are more in the know than me. From the portal a G5 program can get talent that it couldn't originally recruit, as we've seen on the field this year.

Re: Contract Extension For Clark
Drink's class was poor, those guys would be Juniors/Seniors (KEY PLAYERS) this year. B Harrington, Christian Wells, Dashaun Davis, and Nick Ross are the only guys with major success from that class.
4 of the top 5 recruits (according to 247) from that class transferred out and a few didn't even play: David Baldwin-Griffin (spent a lot of resources getting him, didn't play a snap), Raykwon Anderson (Played some RB as freshman, transferred out), Larry Dowdy (DNP a snap), & Emmanuel Jenkins (DNP a snap).
Add Drinks whiff's to the covid year of recruiting and we really lack the veteran depth we are accustomed to seeing on our roster. Transfer portal can provide some band aid fixes, but getting back on track with consistency under Clark should get us back up to speed

A team full of portal guys, not a long term solution. But we better learn how to add talent through the portal or we will get left behind.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Tue Oct 25, 2022 7:51 amGood analysis.JTApps1 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 25, 2022 7:29 amPlenty of Clarks recruits are getting playing time, but they're very young. To me a good balance is more more than 10-15% of your players are transfer portal guys. Build 90% of your roster through old fashioned recruiting. Guys who are your type of guys. Cultural fits. Then let about 1/10 be as-needed transfers.

Or perhaps he's a different kid under Clark and at App. People are a product of their environment to an extent.

This is true. Chadwell is a Grade A douchebag. McCall is too. The question is, has he always been, or did that jackass Chadwell rub off on him??

Agree on this comment.. adults influence kids..look at his influences at Beach Chickens. When fully healthy, he can run and pass....seems that is what many App fans want...not saying me.... personally if we have a 4 or 5 star rated passer, that fits the rating, and cannot run a lick, I am fine with that. But each has their own opinion.

Re: Contract Extension For Clark
Just wondering how much PT has Santana Hopper gotten this year? Seems he fits the more prototypical mold of a DL size-wise. 6'2" 285# as a freshman is big for us historically. Seems that DL has always been a hard position for us to get this type of size.

Pay the money to buy out Coach Clark's and his assistants' contract then donate a couple million to the athletic program then they MIGHT let you pick another head coach and his staff. Only half joking.

Limited, if any. He's still developing and learning the college game, hopefully he'll begin contributing next year.
