There is a difference in playing to win and benching your seniors to develop players. By all means, if a Freshman or Sophomore is better and deserves to be starting, then they have earned that right. But, that's a different scenario than what ashugh posted.MrCraig wrote: ↑Sun Nov 13, 2022 12:29 pmSatterfield benched a bunch of FCS recruits who were seniors and juniors and started the guys he recruited, and it completely turned a bad season around. Just because someone has been around and “given their all” doesn’t mean they have to play. If a freshman or sophomore is better, they should be playing. You play to win the game.WASU 93 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 13, 2022 11:15 amYou should apply to be our lead recruiter. "We'll get you on the field early, but no matter how much blood, sweat and tears you give to our program, you'll be on the bench as soon as we are done with you. You do understand, it's for the good of the program. Y'all had a great career here, but since you went through a rough stretch, we're dumping you and going to bring in the replacements. And, by the way, you are also responsible for the demise of our program."ashugh wrote: ↑Sun Nov 13, 2022 5:14 amThis isn’t about ONE bad year. It’s about a deteriorating program before our eyes. 3 straight years of it. If I’m pulling the levers of whether he stays or goes, the majority of it depends on the last games. Get these freshmen in. They won’t lose a redshirt for 3 games. These seniors are DONE, and thanks. They might, maybe, just might win one more. But that’s no guarantee.ncman071 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 12, 2022 11:36 pmTheres no way they will fire clark for 1 bad season even if we finish 5-7. Next year he would be on the hot seat. One silver lining is we dont have to worry about losing coaches this year. Our coaches will self evaluate and come back ready during off season. Also we will have our full offense witha mobile qb next year and hopefully improve our secondary
Time to get a jump on development of these kids for the future and at the same time guard against the portal. Let’s see what we have in Burger and get him some invaluable live game experience. Get some of these young, highly touted offensive linemen in the game. Lord knows it can’t get worse. This line is the worst in the Sun Belt. Let that sink in.
I’d rather be losing knowing we’re developing than watching a bunch of seniors walk through the motions while taking down the program.
The difference between Leadership and Management is that Leadership thinks in term of the overall program and has long term vision. Managers simple react and make changes to try to manage the process and do damage control. Hopefully we have Leadership in our program.

I always yell out to my soccer teams, during the games, to let me see their war face. I always get a good yell and they are focused and back in the fight.

Thanks for posting this - Coach Huff has been quite clear over the last year or so about how he wanted the Marshall program to mirror App State. He has said that APP is the model to follow if you want to be successful ---
And as you and others have posted over time - there is so much more to leading young men than Ws & Ls

Re: Up Next...Marshall
At what point will we as fans hit the extreme, bounce off the wall and come back to reality? We will be back but it is going to be more difficult than it has ever been in the past. More schools going after the same players. More schools going after the same coaches, and more schools with more money. One small example. Where do you think McCall would be playing if Coastal had not joined the league. Things have changed. We can't look at it as it was in the past. We have a new coach who is going through the same thing so many other coaches have gone through. Duke didn't fire Coach K. VT didn't fire Beamer in yr 6 when he went 2-8. That was after going 2-9, 3-8, 6-4, 6-5, 5-6, then 2-8. If we really are who we claim to be, we wouldn't be attacking SC we would be looking for ways to support him. Fire the coach is not the answer to everything. We have a good man who we should be trying to help. Will he be the man for the future? I don't know but it is just too soon to write him off. Here is what I do know. I would rather be us exactly the way we are today than to be Liberty exactly the way they are today.
I am going to leave this subject with this one last comment. Players and coaches read this thing. That is a fact. If I am one of them this sure wouldn't get me all charged up to play for us. Then again most of them probably are more mature than a few of the folks here.

Well said. Let's go 2-0 and head to a bowl game.bcoach wrote: ↑Tue Nov 15, 2022 12:40 pmAt what point will we as fans hit the extreme, bounce off the wall and come back to reality? You don't think we got sideways this season? I really respect your point, but there has to be some acknowledgement that no one could have expected us to be at 5-5.bcoach wrote: ↑Tue Nov 15, 2022 12:40 pmAt what point will we as fans hit the extreme, bounce off the wall and come back to reality? I don't think that was his point. I think every fan is disappointed or puzzled by the place we find ourselves at the moment. Nothing wrong with having doubts and pointing out our deficiencies. But, now more than ever we need to support the program not turn and run. Patience is a virtue right now. Give him a chance to rectify the problem. If he fails to show any improvement over the next season or so, then we can expect Gillin to act.appgrad95&97 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 15, 2022 1:16 pmYou don't think we got sideways this season? Fair. Very fair. This is year three. Clark gets another year. I absolutely support that. But then what? 7-5 will be an improvement. So another year? 8-4 will look great, does Gillin give him another extension? It's an honest question: at this point what is the upside for Clark?hapapp wrote: ↑Tue Nov 15, 2022 1:52 pmI don't think that was his point.
