Re: John Settle
I love John. Wish he was in our price range as an assistant.

Re: John Settle
I wonder what our price range is. He was making $475,000 at Kentucky. I'm sure it's not that much.

As a coach:
Appalachian State (1994)
Running Backs Coach
Cleveland Browns (1995)
Offensive Assistant
Baltimore Ravens (1996–1997)
Offensive Assistant
Fresno State (1998–2005)
Running Backs Coach
Wisconsin (2006–2010)
Running Backs Coach
Carolina Panthers (2011–2012)
Running Backs Coach
Cleveland Browns (2013)
Running Backs Coach
Pittsburgh (2014)
Running Backs Coach
Wisconsin (2015–2020)
Running Backs Coach
Kentucky (2021–2022)
Running Backs Coach/Co-Special Teams Coordinator
As cool as it would look on paper to have him back up the mountain, I'm not sure it improves us. One of the main reasons Kentucky fired him is that he couldn't recruit well. He also hasn't held down a job as a running backs coach for an extended period at any stop. He is essentially just a running backs coach and no more. I hope you weren't thinking about him as an OC or HC. I would love to have him back up the mountain in an advisor role and a smile, shake hands and kiss babies role. I think we need a guy like him for our culture in the overall department. I just don't know that I want him on the sidelines.

Re: John Settle
His resume looks like a lot of assistant coaches' resumes. 7 years at Fresno State and 4 plus 5 at Wisconsin are pretty good tenures. It is concerning that his recruiting was not good, maybe it wasn't him. It didn't seem to be a problem at Wisconsin. I just wonder if time has passed him by as a position coach/recruiter. He's not old, 57. But he may not have the "juice" that this generation of recruits is looking for. It also appears that Kentucky had multiple co-special teams coaches. I'm not sure that's the best way to coach special teams. Seems like John was the scapegoat.appdaze wrote: ↑Mon Nov 28, 2022 8:28 pmhttps://www.si.com/college/kentucky/foo ... ohn-settle

Re: John Settle
I was talking about as an assistant. I’m not even sure we could pay him more as OC than he makes as an RB coach in SEC.

Re: John Settle
Great guy, I was on the team with John. My claim to fame as a football player since around 1984 is that I got run over by John Settle. I was a nobody at App. I had a chance meeting with John about 4 years ago. He treated me like a gold, spent about 30 minutes talking about App football. Pretended to remember me, no way he actually did.

Re: John Settle
John is gold. We did our internships at the same time and went to see him play in Atlanta several times. Hope he comes back and I can have a 30 talk with him too.Mjohn1988 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 28, 2022 9:48 pmGreat guy, I was on the team with John.
