Hmmm, respectfully disagree, my significantly better half is from that side of the state. Now her thoughts about me may calibrate with your comments since I am from that side of the state as well

Re: Excellent BBQ joint
The Pit is good (though not quite as good once the original owner left), but still good. They were featured in an episode of Diner's, Drive In's and Dives. They are a little more upscale-ish, but the food is really good. If your looking to power through some delicious greasy spoon type place, Clyde Cooper's is your spot in Raleigh. They do a lot of catering as well, that should tell you something . . . If the name sounds familiar, this was the place that made national attention last year because some lady called 911 because the bbq had a pink hue to it . . . smh. They now sell pink sweatshirts, mugs, you name it, shipping it all over the world. Some people crack me up. https://www.wral.com/clyde-cooper-s-bar ... /20585509/

I think the only recourse I have is to double down. Yeah, I said it...and I'll say it again.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Mon Feb 06, 2023 12:53 pmHmmm, respectfully disagree, my significantly better half is from that side of the state. Re: Excellent BBQ joint
Unrelated to the BBQ discussion, my mom was born and raised in Pembroke (Giles County).appst89 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 06, 2023 6:59 amSince BBQ is a recurring topic on here, I felt it appropriate to share a really good BBQ I stumbled across on Saturday.
In the little town of Pembroke, Va., just outside of Blacksburg on US460, there is a place called Bluegrass BBQ. I never have very high expectations when trying a new BBQ place, but this one impressed me. The BBQ was really good and the portions were big, they had multiple good sauces and the sides were all very good. Can't comment on the desserts because I was too full. If you're ever in that area, I recommend it.

Re: Excellent BBQ joint
I lived in Highpoint for a while and Lexington Q is great but I have to admit that it has been hit and miss a few times. There are a few other joints down there that are good too. Barbecue Center and Speedy's are quality Q as well. Also the BBQ Center has HUUUGE ice cream Sundays! Mmmmm.
I can vouch for JDs as well.
I can vouch for The Pit with truly the same sentiment.
I wish I could remember all the Q places I've been to across NC and SC. Truly some great small town joints you've never heard of. Once you cross the mountains aka the real BBQ divide things are just different.
Boone is in desperate need of a solid joint semi close to campus. It's a shame that the area where Portifinos/Stinkin Rose/whatever they want to rebuild/call those places doesn't have a fat cat pig cooker for the whole campus to smell on game days.

Last time I went to Wilbur's, it wasn't hitting on much. Food wasn't very good and the place was dirty, flies everywhere, but that's been a couple of years. The previous times I had been was good.

I lived in Morristown for 3 years, never found good BBQ. Buddy's was as close as it got and that wasn't very good.

It's under new ownership since it shutdown a few years ago. Cleaned up and renovated. Same pitmaster and menu, with a few additions. It's good, maybe not great but I like it.BUTCH1991 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 06, 2023 2:32 pmLast time I went to Wilbur's, it wasn't hitting on much. Hey Coach, that's a good option for pig parts. You'll need to keep driving east and look for the wood piles and smoke. Skylight Inn in Ayden. Whole hog over hardwood, cash and carry. It's that simple. 7th generation owned. Won James Beard award for Q (how many of those are around?)

The best I have found in TN is the Germantown Commissary BBQ near Memphis. No go on Buddy's - nothing beats Lexington - in my opinion. I did grow up going to Lexington and still go when we are in Winston Salem to visit my father.

Been there. Pretty decent stuff. The owner and staff were wonderful. My family would go back.

Ridgewood BBQ, Bluff City, TN. Best I ever had, but, I haven't been there in many, many years. It used to be darn awesome. Hmmm there may be a road trip in the near future. You guys have my BBQ taste buds going now. Lexington has always been good for me but I do want to try JD's outside Lenoir. Friends of ours say it's really good.

Re: Excellent BBQ joint
Willie Brooks was okay, but it's gone. Pedalin Pig is not very good and Woodlands is there only in name, the Woodland's everybody knew is gone.appgrad2010 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 06, 2023 9:33 am
Is the Peddlin Pig or Willie Brooks not good?
Wish Woodlands or what was where Willie Brooks was were still open....
