Yup, that was him. Better baseball player than football player (Chicago Cubs MLB player) but we made him look like Patrick Mahomes.

Drake Maye - UNC

Freshman first game ever - hung 60 plus points on the black n gold, will be Heisman and 1st round pick most likely.

You witnessed greatness without knowing it at the time.

The Villanova guy was supposed to be a sure fire Major Leaguer in baseball, but he didn't make it. His name was Casyr or some similarity to it.

No, just no. While I will credit Maye with being a good qb and having a good freshman season, toward the end of the year when defenses had enough film on him he became somewhat pedestrian. UNC whimpered to the finish line losing their last 4 (including the bowl) with Maye throwing for less yards in those 4 games than in all the other previous game (202, 233, 268, 206). I doubt he wins a Heisman, and I am not even sure he ever makes it to New York. He needs to put up 2 more years of good play before he is anywhere near the level of Randy Moss.

Also, it wasn't his first game.

What Maye did at the end of the season has ZERO to do with his performance during the KBS game.... And my fault he threw all of 10 passes before playing the game in Boone -🙄

He mad brought that defense to it's knees, Jones had no answer for him.

No but it has plenty to do with his future and you are the one that said he would win the Heisman and be a first round pick (potential). All I did was point out that his last 4 games were considerably worse than his previous games and that I would need to see at least 2 more years before I will have him in the same category as the HOF Randy Moss. My bet is the last 4 games end up being more representative of his collective college career when all is said and done than his first 8 games do. Defenses figured him out, and we have yet to see the Heels answer to that. Again, not the best by far.

No one knew Moss would be a HOF at the time... Maye had a better one game performance than Moss had in KBS.

Plus Moss did it against 1-AA players at the time -- Maye did it against big bad FBS players.😂😂

My vote is for ol' # 01 Grady Davis, could throw a football over the mountain, App All American 4 years running, never missed a game, In HS he coulda won State if coach had just kept him in the game. Heck of a Rep for App when dealing with other college AD's.

I was a senior the year Dino got drafted. I still recall watching his short interview when he got picked. He said "I like to hit people "
He was very impressive at the events where we got to meet the players. You could tell by his confidence and swagger that he could back up what he said.

His App jersey or number is retired. He played in an NFL Pro-Bowl .

He was living and or working in Winston-Salem a few years ago..seems like.

This is a good topic for discussion.....I like all these comments. I still stick with my original opening thread comment.....but after reading and thinking I would like to add the element of just the college level at App.....I would take Armanti Edwards over Dexter Coakley.
I’m curious if any of you picking AE over Coakley actually saw Coakley in person. AE was a great player but I just don’t see how someone can pick a player who ended up in Canada over someone who still holds accolades nobody else has come close to, our only CFB HOF player and someone who had a long NFL career as well.
