As I said in SeattleApp's thread, there are much more things to be concerned with regarding App football than anonymous message board posters.

Going out of our way to post a message about a first-year program losing a game makes us look pathetic. Ignoring them and not caring is the best thing. Thank you. Let's not turn into NC State. Please.

Re: Niners getting bent over by NCCU
Sarcasm not lost on me for sure. If we were 2-0 SoCon would still be JV to some on here. At 0-2 now the MEAC and Big South are suddenly fielding quality teams that we should not be surprised can into our house and beat us. I was talking with an Elon grad today and he told me he is not surprised they lost to A&T but he said "you are App State, you don't lose to no damn A&T". I agreed with him wholeheartedly.bcoach wrote:Hope you realize this is sarcastic. Re: Niners getting bent over by NCCU
What is wrong with a little bit of goading, kidding, etc. in sports? Isn't that part of the fun of participating. You don't have to take it so seriously. I remember growing up and hearing the Duke, Carolina and NC State fans kid each other in basketball all the time. That was what made it fun.
If I want to tell a UNCC fan that they would be beaten by several top high school teams in the area (i.e. SC Byrnes, several North Atlanta schools) what is the harm.
Also, we may be down right now but I bet you by the end of the season we will be delivering more punishment than taking. We are basically in a "program level" rebuilding period so I am really not that concerned. One day ASU football will be back bigger and stronger than ever.

Are you serious? Nobody is going out of their way to do anything. It's a message board and that is what happens. UNCC has been skewered here for years, why is it suddenly pathetic? I think it is great that they were hammered by the first legitimate team they played.

Completely agree on this point, Bcoach. I have been very much in favor of the FBS move, but I don't understand the folks who have to trash the SoCon in order to move up. The SoCon has been a good home. I do think we have outgrown it, but that doesn't mean that there are some excellent programs. Imagine that! I'm proud of where we've been AND where we're going. I wish some folks would realize that it's not an "either/or" choice.bcoach wrote:Hope you realize this is sarcastic. My God son, you must be one bored mother f'er. You really need to get a life. I browse message boards to find information on my teams - For fun, I've got a lot better ideas than this.Gonzo wrote:It centers around entertainment value moreo than anything else.
I'll come lurking every now and then because everyone in my immediate family was an App grad, so I have lightly followed the program for quite some time. Now I'll post here regarding Charlotte. I think the team and a lot of our fans needed a wake-up call. I for one never allowed myself to think we were anything special just because we handled Campbel and Chowan, but I certainly didnt expect to loose this game so badly. That said, looking at the stats, it was an interesting game.ASU-FTW wrote:I can't think of a fan base that deserved a big slice of humble pie more than them.
Wonder how many of their fans will be lurking over here after that whooping..
Charlotte actually played relatively well on paper, but that youth thing seems to have kicked our ass. From the stat sheet:
First Downs:
Charlotte: 31
NCCU: 15
Net Yards Rushing:
Charlotte: 191
NCCU: 207
Net Yards Passing:
Charlotte: 342
NCCU: 178
Total Offensive Yards:
Charlotte: 533
NCCU: 385
So how does a team that gains 533 yards, out gaining it's opponent by 148 yards go on to loose by 40-13? Inexperience and the mistakes that come with it:
2 Fumbles Lost
5 Interceptions (1 for a pick 6)
Poor tackling - We seemed to have a desire to knock the hell out of someone, but cant wrap our arms around them to bring them down. NCCU made us pay for it. For example, average yards per return? NCCU holds the edge at 50.7 YDS to 17.4 YDS! Their kick returner would just bounce right off of us and keep going. That was probably the most frustrating thing I saw - other than the interceptions

I think we are certainly better than we played, but we have a lot of learning to do. We've got a long way to go, and I hope our fans and young players understand that now.
I took a buddy who is an ASU grad and former baseball player to the NCCU game (ASU season ticket holder). We had an awesome time tailgating and watching the game. I look forward to the day when more of you can come down the mountain for a game in Charlotte, and can treat us to some great views and good times from KBS. Best of luck this weekend and for the rest of the season.

Not to stick up for Gonzo as he probably would not want ME to be the one to do that, but for one thing we really don't need you here to post about your team. Don't you have your own site? Second we don't play games on paper we play them on the field. There is only one stat that counts after a game and that is the one on the scoreboard. Maybe the way you lose a game like that is by playing it on paper.HighFlying49er wrote:My God son, you must be one bored mother f'er. You really need to get a life. That's cool that you feel the need to break down all the excuses for your big loss and all, but no one on this board really cares about the X's and O's of the NCCU/UNCC game. We just enjoy seeing the scores of UNCc fans plummeting back to earth after a long media market conference invite/whipping up on non-scholarship teams high.HighFlying49er wrote:My God son, you must be one bored mother f'er. UNCc fans think UNCc is something special -- that the new football program was somehow born better than Appalachian. We respectfully disagree and when reality hits -- like it did last Saturday -- some fans like to relish the moment.

Re: Niners getting bent over by NCCU
For a little perspective. NCCU had more yards per rush and more yards per pass attempt and committed 3 turnovers of their own. They also had 7 flags thrown to UNCC 5. Most of your "yardage" was after going down 33 early and 2nd stringers entering the game in a prevent defense. While NCCU was content to run out the clock.HighFlying49er wrote:My God son, you must be one bored mother f'er. You really need to get a life.
