Regarding the tackling, it's been noted the NCAA has cut down on tackling in fall camp, so it should improve as the weeks go on.

Lamb's offense is definitely complex, effective and exciting to watch. With Apps talent, he would definitely do a nice job in that role if Ponce bolts again.Stonewall wrote: ↑Mon Sep 04, 2023 1:27 pmSaved my observations until I watched the replay. Tre had an offer on the table and countered it (as he should have done). During the negotiations, Ponce called and the rest is history.AppDub wrote: ↑Mon Sep 04, 2023 4:59 pmLamb's offense is definitely complex, effective and exciting to watch. At this point, I would expect him to get a P5 OC job or G5 HC job before we have the option to snag him as OC.

Thanks. I did not know that back story, but I absolutely agree about Tre's next opportunity being bigger than our OC role. Hope we don't look back and regret not accepting his counter. Either way, we have who have and only time will tell what that turns out to be.AppStateNews wrote: ↑Mon Sep 04, 2023 5:10 pmTre had an offer on the table and countered it (as he should have done). I don't think we'll regret it... But only reason for it to not be a regret is because it very well could be like the Garrett Riley situation.. we announce as OC and he's gone. And he absolutely should take any and every opportunity to move up right now -- he's still in his low 30s and has the opportunity to make life changing money for his great great grandkids by the time he's 45 years old -- hard to say no to that.AppDub wrote: ↑Mon Sep 04, 2023 5:15 pmThanks. Re: It's Bur....Joey Time! - GW discussion
I think Tre Lamb has a very bright future ahead of him. He has taken a bad FCS team and turned it into a conference champion and could be a national contender if things keep going. He's done that at a school of 3500 and no real winning tradition in football (at least at the FCS level). I'm happy that Ponce came back, but we could have done much worse than Tre.

Guys, how about this. We won. All in all, it was a solid performance given all the unknowns. Now we hit a tough stretch, and then the much improved conference schedule. At this point GW is over.

Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?
This is my very generic signature added to each post.

Just rewatching the Aguilar portion of the game. One of his 2 incompletions was on a silly flee flicker.

Re: It's Bur....Joey Time! - GW discussion
Other observations: 2 incompletions were to TE’s. All passes to WRs were completed. He hit 4 different receivers for TDs: Robinson, Davis, Stroman and Horn. Our defense hit their QB on almost every drop back in the 2nd half leading to 2 ints. Gaither for GW is really really good, he’s the reason it was a game. They had a chance to cut it to 1 score, but 2nd string back fumbled away the possession which ultimately ended the game. Nate is an awesome back as well and runs hard. He gets better the more he has the ball and I think that’s why you see him with so many carries. Most of Heywood’s carrries came after game appeared to be in hand and risking injury to Marshall or Roberts may be why they didn’t see the ball. App outscored GW 38-14 with Aguilar at the helm.NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Tue Sep 05, 2023 8:11 pmJust rewatching the Aguilar portion of the game. Re: It's Bur....Joey Time! - GW discussion
I think we have 2 good QB’s. Joey played well but did benefit from playing in the second half where line adjustments were made, he had more time to throw and the scholarship difference/depth really started to show itself for GW.

I think he also benefitted from a more open playbook. We seemed to be very conservative when Ryan was at the helm. Including runs on third and long.

Re: It's Bur....Joey Time! - GW discussion
In a way yes. Joey benefited from a healthy hand. If you listened to Clark’s show last night, he said that Burger broke his finger very early on. This affected his ability to throw a deep ball. GW saw this and crowded the box to stop the run. When Joey came in, they ran three verticals on the very first play and that opened up the box and allowed for Ponce to call more plays.

Does anyone know for sure how long Burger will be out? What is the healing time until a guy can throw a ball?

Re: It's Bur....Joey Time! - GW discussion
By all accounts Joey was very comfortable leading the offense up & down the field. If he shows off the same level of comfort and smart decision making against UNC and we at least keep it competitive (& hopefully win) Burger may not get the QB1 spot back. I was high on Joey all summer but always felt the nod was going to go to Burger and rightfully so. Joey played like a QB1 on Saturday and if he can do it again this week in Chapel Hill then 4 is here to stay as QB1 for the long haul.

Re: It's Bur....Joey Time! - GW discussion
Prior to getting injured, Burger had 2 good throws of decent length. The only ill-advised throw was down the sideline into coverage. It was the one where he rolled a little left and had time to pass. Just no one open. Armchair QB and TV announcers thought he should have ran it on that play
As previously stated, I thought Burger did pretty good job for first time being QB1. With that said, Aguilar provided a lift. Whether he wants to or not ...if not his desired first option, Aguilar is going to have to run some this weekend...and show he can pass either on the run or shifts in the pocket and set feet and go. He did not seem to mind giving a hit to someone. Overall, make quick decisions and live with the results. Let's Go App!!

2018 Final Score
App State 72
Gardner Webb 7
(just saying)
Will be interesting to see how Joey A responds when one of those Tar Heels, Pirates, or Cowboys hits him in the mouth on a blitz over the next 3 weeks. Those aren't 1-AA Baptist school defenses he will be facing.
