Yes, I was expecting a bit more lop-sided score. I looked at the Box Score and I think the UNCC TD was a result of a kickoff fumble by JMU to start the game and one throw and one run later UNCC had a TD from a 35 yard drive. After that it looked to be a lot of 3 and outs for UNCC.mtnjax wrote:that was to be expected. wish it had been ODU instead, like was originally scheduled. it would have been far worseASU-FTW wrote:Bump. JMU is VERY VERY bad this year, at least by what we're used to seeing from them. Just adding more perspective to the "dream team" and how it's going to be a very long time before they can be remotely competitive with FCS teams, let alone CUSA.
Their fans are still plummeting to earth.

Re: Niners getting bent over by NCCU
We play almost entirely true freshman, rs freshman and walkons. We have very little depth. And the majority of our team just played their 4th game - EVER. Most of us expected to lose to JMU and we knew central was going to be a tough game. I actually was pleased with the game against JMU - just would have been nice if more than 4,000 of their fans had showed up. We forced a good number of turnovers - and had chances to make it a game both in the first and second half. Just didn't convert, but that will come with experience. For the record I 100% expect to drop the came at Coastal and expect a few more tough games. I don't know any of our fans that thought we were going to go undefeated like you make it sound. Most of us were thinking finish above .500 would be a great start. I am holding out for 7-4, but I am not going to "plummet back to earth" if we don't hit that. When we elected to go FBS in 2015 the staff purposely changed recruiting tactics from bringing in a few more experienced guys to letting the youth play through mistakes and be as ready as we can be in 2015.Gonzo wrote:JMU is VERY VERY bad this year, at least by what we're used to seeing from them. I know you don't know anything about this building a team thing so maybe you should just refrain from the subject. You showed up on campus with a team there. As far as us not being competitive - let's just sit back and see how this works out and revisit that statement in 4 or 5 years. I mean 4 or 5 years ago you all were saying we couldn't have a team, or a stadium or a FBS invite - so your track record on predictions isn't exactly stellar.
Go Niners!

What? We had some fans that thought we would win that game? Oh no! How awful! Say it isn't so! I won't bother pulling some of your game threads (I mean some of you were predicting a win in Athens). It happens when people get excited. As I said before none of us expected to go undefeated and we knew we would have some tough games. We are 2-2 in our first season... EVER. I am very happy with that. I thought the central game would be a close game and the outcome going either way, and if you looked at the boxscore you would see we have plenty of chances. That is what youth and inexperience will get ya - lots of correctable mistakes.Gonzo wrote:http://ninernation.net/index.php?topic=32155.0NWA49 wrote:we knew central was going to be a tough game.

JMU, ranked No. 17 in FCS, is VERY VERY bad?? Huh?
What does that make us, since we are unranked -- or No. 38 if you count the number of votes for those past No. 25???
Re: Niners getting bent over by NCCU
I don't disagree with your post but I do want to point out a fallacy in using ranking and AppState this year. I am sure if the first two games would have been convincing wins, then AppState would be ranked higher. However, this years rankings will be artificially deflated because a lot of voters in the polls will not vote for transitional FBS teams, no matter how good they are.MountainMan wrote:What does that make us, since we are unranked -- or No. 38 if you count the number of votes for those past No. 25???

Re: Niners getting bent over by NCCU
Nice back pedal, but you said "we knew central was going to be a tough game." In reality, the active forum posters on your board collectively wrote them off as a blowout win. CLEARLY the majority, at least in the sample of UNCc fans that post on NNN (and would likely be more "knowledgeable" and invested than the more casual fan), had incredibly inflated and unrealistic expectations. Your fans have no other reason to expect that kind of a blowout aside from the same old entitled BS that makes every fanbase that shares ciber space with UNCc fans hate your guts.NWA49 wrote:What? When App or a similar school has an inflated expectation about a coming game outcome, it stems from a history of excellence on the field and a past practice of turning those expectations into realities. UNCc's delusions of grandeur and wild optimism stems from nothing but an unearned, media-market based conference invite and an unbridled ignorance about the sport of college football.
The collective attitude and reasonless arrogance that characterizes your brood is responsible for the fact that no one on God's green earth respects UNC-Charlotte sports and especially the average UNC-Charlotte fan.

Re: Niners getting bent over by NCCU
They barely squeaked by St. Francis and their fans that I've talked to are convinced they're in a severe down year. Maybe I should have removed one of the 'very's, but they're not up to par with the Duke's App faced in the not-too-distant past.MountainMan wrote:JMU, ranked No. 17 in FCS, is VERY VERY bad?? ' We don't want to schedule App, we have already surpassed them as a program/recruiting'
'schedule up, not down' (or some rubbish)
- Gets blown out by NCCU.
If I have to dig up those quotes, along with others that are equally off-base from the niner board, I will. But please do not make me go back to that board, I've stayed away for a solid 2 months now.

4th game- EVER? They never payed HS, middle school or even a rec league? Maybe 4th college game, but I would hope not 4th game EVER.NWA49 wrote:We play almost entirely true freshman, rs freshman and walkons. We have very little depth. Re: Niners getting bent over by NCCU
Dang, nobody can say you App guys let facts get in your way. I don't really give a crap about what you guys think about Charlotte, but you really shouldn't just make crap up like the bolded part above. Actually most of Charlotte's yardage in that game was gained in the first half. In fact, Charlotte had 4 straight trips into the red zone to start the game (1 blocked field goal and 3 turnovers ended those drives). Also, NCCU actually played the majority of their starters until the last 4-5 minutes of the game, including their QB, RB, WRs and Offensive Line. Again, I don't have a problem with that but atleast don't make crap up----just makes you a liar.ASUPATCH wrote:For a little perspective. NCCU had more yards per rush and more yards per pass attempt and committed 3 turnovers of their own. They also had 7 flags thrown to UNCC 5. Most of your "yardage" was after going down 33 early and 2nd stringers entering the game in a prevent defense. While NCCU was content to run out the clock.HighFlying49er wrote:My God son, you must be one bored mother f'er. You really need to get a life. I'll come lurking every now and then because everyone in my immediate family was an App grad, so I have lightly followed the program for quite some time. Now I'll post here regarding Charlotte. I think the team and a lot of our fans needed a wake-up call. I for one never allowed myself to think we were anything special just because we handled Campbel and Chowan, but I certainly didnt expect to loose this game so badly. That said, looking at the stats, it was an interesting game.ASU-FTW wrote:I can't think of a fan base that deserved a big slice of humble pie more than them.
Wonder how many of their fans will be lurking over here after that whooping..
Charlotte actually played relatively well on paper, but that youth thing seems to have kicked our ass. From the stat sheet:
First Downs:
Charlotte: 31
NCCU: 15
Net Yards Rushing:
Charlotte: 191
NCCU: 207
Net Yards Passing:
Charlotte: 342
NCCU: 178
Total Offensive Yards:
Charlotte: 533
NCCU: 385
So how does a team that gains 533 yards, out gaining it's opponent by 148 yards go on to loose by 40-13? Inexperience and the mistakes that come with it:
2 Fumbles Lost
5 Interceptions (1 for a pick 6)
Poor tackling - We seemed to have a desire to knock the hell out of someone, but cant wrap our arms around them to bring them down. NCCU made us pay for it. For example, average yards per return? NCCU holds the edge at 50.7 YDS to 17.4 YDS! Their kick returner would just bounce right off of us and keep going. That was probably the most frustrating thing I saw - other than the interceptions.
I think we are certainly better than we played, but we have a lot of learning to do. We've got a long way to go, and I hope our fans and young players understand that now.
I took a buddy who is an ASU grad and former baseball player to the NCCU game (ASU season ticket holder). We had an awesome time tailgating and watching the game. I look forward to the day when more of you can come down the mountain for a game in Charlotte, and can treat us to some great views and good times from KBS. Best of luck this weekend and for the rest of the season.
You flat out got beat. Hard to sugar coat it.
