Re: Coastal discussion
If this was your typical Coastal team with Chadwell's offense I would be worried. If we see the team that played against GSU, I feel pretty good.
They are down so far this year. Depending upon where you look we are a 6 or 7 point favorite at home. That's not much at home and if things don't go right, it could come back to bite us. However, if we can eliminate mistakes and play smart on defense, we might be able to pull away. Also, McCall does not like to get hit. Need to get pressure and bring the hammer when we get the opportunity. It will be interesting to see if we can run on them like we have been able to do on everyone we have played this year.
Would love to see a complete game in all 3 phases.

At this point in time everyone is bringing their "A game", A stands for Appalachian State University, when they play Appalachian regardless of their record.Longrifle28 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 04, 2023 3:18 pmIf this was your typical Coastal team with Chadwell's offense I would be worried. Gone are the days in the Sun Belt when App and Georgia Southern dominate every opponent.
The point is this, the Sun Belt has gotten better as a result of having to play Georgia Southern and Appalachian every season. That is why the Sun Belt East is wide open right now. Appalachian had been the darling of the Sun Belt for so long and during the pandemic Coastal took all of the attention away from Appalachian being the darling.
Besides, the competition in the Sun Belt now is what made schools like JMU, Marshall, Southern Miss and ODU join it. The Sun Belt is a conference worth being a member. No other nonautonomous conference is where the Sun Belt is today. It has positioned itself as the best there is.

Re: Coastal discussion
I'd love for CCU to look as pedestrian as they did against GA St. and GS next week. There's a good film and blue print if they continue running a more pro style offense than Chadwell's option-like attack.
I bet we see variations though giving the 0-2 SBC start and 10 days to prep.

Ga Southern has never dominated the SBC schools. JMU, Marshall, So Miss, and Old Dominion DID NOT join the league based on competition, they joined the league based on geography, the ESPN deal, and the stability of the Sun Belt. Has zero to do with competition. SBC was weak before they joined. Adding those teams made it better along with Coastal.

One issue with this argument is that "every other team in the conference has elevated to our level" but we haven't elevated to stay above them.AppWyo wrote: ↑Wed Oct 04, 2023 3:36 pmAt this point in time everyone is bringing their "A game", A stands for Appalachian State University, when they play Appalachian regardless of their record.Longrifle28 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 04, 2023 3:18 pmIf this was your typical Coastal team with Chadwell's offense I would be worried. App has been unable to parlay the 10 win seasons, streak of bowl wins, and appearances in the top 25 into better recruiting classes or better assistants.

App has excelled over the years at fielding a competitive football program on a shoestring. It was a source of pride for many years...and then the world changed.APPdiesel wrote: ↑Wed Oct 04, 2023 4:21 pmOne issue with this argument is that "every other team in the conference has elevated to our level" but we haven't elevated to stay above them.AppWyo wrote: ↑Wed Oct 04, 2023 3:36 pmAt this point in time everyone is bringing their "A game", A stands for Appalachian State University, when they play Appalachian regardless of their record.Longrifle28 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 04, 2023 3:18 pmIf this was your typical Coastal team with Chadwell's offense I would be worried. Re: Coastal discussion
This board is getting as bad as it was during covid. Can we actually talk about the game? Not Clark, not why we aren’t as good as we think we should be, but discuss the game coming up.
The little I’ve watched of Coastal hasn’t been impressive. Their offense is much less complex, and their defense is mediocre. However, App went down to the wire with a worse team in ULM. I’m hopeful App uses the extended prep time to rest, clean up some messy spots on both sides of the ball, and blows Coastal off the mountain.

They were good their first two years.
Finished 1st in the Sun Belt in 2014, their first year in the conference. They were
8-0 against Sun Belt teams that year and finished the season 9-3. They lost to NC State (1pt), Georgia Tech (4pts) and Navy (got killed).
Finished 3rd in the Sun Belt in 2015. They were 6-2 against Sun Belt teams that year and finished the season 9-4. They lost to West Virginia, App State, Georgia (OT) and Georgia State.
2014 Sun Belt Conference 1st * — 9 3 — Ineligible — —
2015 Sun Belt Conference 3rd ^ — 9 4 — Won GoDaddy Bowl against Bowling Green Falcons, 58–27
They have pretty much sucked A$$ since then.

Re: Coastal discussion
They aren't eligible per NCAA rules. Have to wait 2 years. Sunbelt has fallen in line with that too as they don't want their conference champion to be bowl ineligible. I hope they go undefeated and aren't able to go bowling. Then next year when they are eligible they go 0-12.Black Saturday wrote: ↑Wed Oct 04, 2023 2:35 pmOT, in anothe thread someone saying that JMU isn't eligible for conference title this season? Or i didn't get the sarcasm.
Anyway they looked pretty darned good and get upfield extremely well on Defense, and will be a tough out at Streamersville.

Re: Coastal discussion
They still have weapons that I think Beck is still trying to figure out how to use. His pro style offense has been a hard thing for McCall to adjust to which was super evident in last week's 4 interception game at Southern. Not saying he is a system QB, but he certainly hasn't grasped this new one. Their offense clicks at moments, but if we can keep the momentum swings away we will be fine. On defense they struggle to stop the run. That obviously is in our favor. Hope the Rock is slammed packed and loud.MrCraig wrote: ↑Wed Oct 04, 2023 7:53 pmThis board is getting as bad as it was during covid. Can we actually talk about the game? At Sun Belt Media Days when McCall said he wasn't going to run much this year, I felt that was very telling. Of course it could have been a smoke screen, but obviously not so far. I think he was hurt worse than what was let after last season and wants to protect his draft stock, whatever that turns out to be.

Seeing a lot of Coastal tickets going up for sale on this board. Hoping this isn't a sign of a less than packed Rock next Tuesday.

It is a Tuesday game. Assume the high 20k area would be a good turn out. Maybe 28k at best.

Can we let any and every student in? I wouldn’t mind just letting any student with an ID in that shows up. Fill the seats and the hill!
