Without the mention of Burger do we assume he is taking Med RS year?ASUTodd wrote: ↑Mon Oct 23, 2023 1:59 pmHe got pressed a bit on this one. Hopefully, he will return real soon...along with Castle and Burger.

If we don't turn it around we will be the "trap game" team...Bigdaddyg1 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 23, 2023 11:12 amHard to believe that we are at the point where a game against a horrible team has warranted a thread outside of the game day variety. We never had to worry about the cellar dwellers short of the usual "trap game" worrier guys. I haven't been one of those fire the coach fans but damn if we drop this one...
I had asked on another thread who the last legit team was that we beat soundly. Someone offered up Ga State from last year. I think they went 5-7 or 4-8. Still no real answer. Now who was the last Belt team we laid the wood to? That's beginning to be a tough one as well.

If you go by records at the time, we beat a 5-5 Troy squad 45-7 in November of '21. The week before we beat a 5-4 South Alabama team 31-7. Both teams lost out from there and finished with losing records.Bigdaddyg1 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 23, 2023 11:12 amHard to believe that we are at the point where a game against a horrible team has warranted a thread outside of the game day variety. We beat ECU in the first game of that season 33-19 and they were scheduled to play in the Military Bowl with a 7-5 record, prior to the game being cancelled.

In my mind you have to look at the final results of the teams. It's been a long time since we have beaten a quality team- convincingly.WASU 93 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 23, 2023 2:17 pmIf you go by records at the time, we beat a 5-5 Troy squad 45-7 in November of '21. Re: Moving on to Southern Miss
Yes, it has. But Troy and South Alabama both had something to play for when we beat them and those games were convincing. We didn't beat Coastal soundly that year, but we did beat them. Also, in 2021 the sample size is small, because only 4 of the 12 teams (including App St) had winning records. (We beat Coastal and Ga. State 45-16, and lost to LaLa 24-16)Bigdaddyg1 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 23, 2023 2:27 pmIn my mind you have to look at the final results of the teams. In 2020, we only had two opportunities to beat a Belt team that ended up with a winning record (Coastal and LaLa) and we lost both of those.
In 2019, only 4 other Belt teams ended the season with a winning record. (We beat LaLa twice + GaSt and lost to GaSo--didn't play Ark. St.)

I’d ask to be RS if I were him- just for flexibility. No need to burn a year with the current state of the team. He can still play in 3 more and keep his RS too to build confidence going into next year.biggie wrote: ↑Mon Oct 23, 2023 2:07 pmWithout the mention of Burger do we assume he is taking Med RS year?ASUTodd wrote: ↑Mon Oct 23, 2023 1:59 pmHe got pressed a bit on this one. We smoke USM this weekend, which lights the fire. We then roll on and don’t lose another game for at least 2 years. The chaos calms down, all is right in the football world and in our Earthly heaven (Boone). We all get along again on here, and NewApp even stops with the pointless posts.
It’s gonna be great….
Just hope I didn’t jinx it

Actually, he used a standard Red Shirt last year (he's a redshirt freshman this year)311neers wrote: ↑Mon Oct 23, 2023 3:58 pmI’d ask to be RS if I were him- just for flexibility. Unless they've changed the rules on a Medical Redshirt:
1. The player has to play in less than 30% of the games
2. The injury has to occur in the first half of the season.
3. The injury must be season-ending
If that's the case and he wants to apply for a medical redshirt, he'll have to sit out the rest of the season.

Re: Moving on to Southern Miss
Yeah, I'm not sure that Burger's broken finger would be seen as season ending, but as a QB, maybe so. Seems like a stretch but the recovery time from a broken finger is more than the bone healing. I'm sure there is a rehab period to get his grip strength back and not being able to throw for weeks in the middle of a season would certainly impact a QB. Never know what the NCAA would decide these days.

Re: Moving on to Southern Miss
Not trusting the line. The last two weeks we have been 5 to 7 point favorites. ESPN, Sagarin and Massey were all in agreement. We still lost both games.
This week, again all rankings are pretty much in agreement. USM lost to Arky State by 7, lost to ODU by 4, and lost to TSU by 14. They were throttled by USA and FSU.
I look for RB Gore to have a big game, and they may have their biggest offensive day yet. Our defense is allowing 400 yards per game and their offense is averaging 328. Dangit, something has to give! We should have a good offensive day if we can keep from shooting ourselves in the foot. Hopefully, the defense can step up and make some stops.

Lot of tickets being sold. Hope that isn't an indication of the crowd.

Re: Moving on to Southern Miss
He def didn't give an interview that said he was on the hotseat.... He seemed upbeat and confident. Good answers. good updates on Burger and Castle. Talked about changes in the play, but wouldn't elaborate (due to other teams listening - which is smart).
