Will Joey set the Single Season Passing TD Record?
All Time:
1. Taylor Lamb 31 (2015)
2. Armanti Edwards 30 (2008)
3. Zac Thomas 28 (2018)
4. Taylor Lamb 27 (2017) Chase Brice 27 (2021) Chase Brice 27 (2022)
Joey sits at 26 with 3 or 4 games to go. He has 10 in the last three games.
He also has 2657 passing yards this year which is 9th all time. Chase Brice had 3337 in 2021 to set the season record. Joey needs 681 yards to break that record.

I would not bet against it. I would say with 3 games left as long as he stays healthy he should.

Re: Will Joey set the Single Season Passing TD Record?
If he gets 3 games (or god willing 4), I think he breaks both records. Yards could possibly be broken in the regular season but that’s a pretty lofty goal. TDs could happen in regular season, but with as much as we run the ball you’d have to think even with astronomical yardage some TDs could still end up on the ground.
I hope he demolishes both of them, as that means we probably end up better than .500 for the regular season.

Sun Belt record is 37 set by Hansen in 2017. Joey is on pace for 33.8 with 3 games left or 36.4 in 4 games. He has a chance at the SBC record.

Re: Will Joey set the Single Season Passing TD Record?
Ponce and Clark made the call based on the difference in decision making...particularly in the passing game.
And we've seen that play out on the field with Joey under center this season.
But the good has clearly outweighed the bad, to our benefit.

We only got to see 11 passes from Burger. Remember he was injured during most of those passes. Still went 7/11 and a TD.

I was about to say the same thing. We also have to remember that Joey has had his share of turnovers early on in the season. I can see why the staff was split on the two. We really don't know what Burger can do.

Looking at those numbers, I say he breaks the td and passing yards record this season. It will probably take the bowl game (or Sun Belt title game if the cards play out) but I see him having both records by the end of the season. Most likely gets the TD record in the regular season, 5 TDs in 2 games is very doable for Joey.

Yep, he sets a new passing TD record and moves ahead of Chase for the yardage record!

Re: Will Joey set the Single Season Passing TD Record?
Joey will break the TD record next week against the Stink. He was thrown multiple td passes in every game except Wyoming and will do it again. It will be fitting on a day that we retire our GOATS number, our new QB sets the record for TD passes. He has an outside shot at the yardage as well but I doubt we let him throw for 360+ in a single game. Either way, that will fall in the next game, hopefully the Sun Belt Title game but if not in the bowl game. At season's end Joey will own the two biggest QB single season records at App.

This has to make you smile. If back in late September, you thought Joey had a chance at this record, please raise your hand.Joey moves into 3rd place in Single Season TD Passes:

Is Joey better that ZT or has he just been given more opportunity to break the record?

Re: Will Joey set the Single Season Passing TD Record?
There is no question that he has been given more opportunities than ZT in passing but I think that is largely because he throws better, and we have better receivers and lots of injured running backs. ZT was a much better runner and therefore a better dual threat qb, but as far as overall qb I would give that to Joey. And the best part is that he is still learning and getting better. He was asked about the Wyoming game in one of the post-game presser and he completely owned it and said he missed reads and he needs to be better and getting the ball to the open guy. He clearly studies film and has learned and improved. I think Joey is playing the position better than anyone since AE, and we have had some very good qbs in that stretch and I am not insulting any of them with that take.kornegaylw wrote: ↑Sun Nov 19, 2023 10:16 amIs Joey better that ZT or has he just been given more opportunity to break the record?

Re: Will Joey set the Single Season Passing TD Record?
Different type of offense or .changes to existing offense to fit Joey and our OL to be more effective. ZT and company relied on the run. Yesterday and for a few weeks now, the run game has not been up to par... excluding Ga.Stkornegaylw wrote: ↑Sun Nov 19, 2023 10:16 amIs Joey better that ZT or has he just been given more opportunity to break the record?
IMO is the fact that we are not creative there. I have really looked at this for past weeks. When teams see the TE lining up between/behind Guard/Tackle...their safeties on opposite side start moving towards the line of scrimmage and their linebackers start moving in that direction. In addition, we only have 2 OLs that are good at run blocking against a team that is comparable to us. However, they all have done well in passing game.. except for one that has needed RB or TE help throughout the game with blocking. One thing I have noticed in past 2 to 3 games is that the TE and RB that stays in for blocking has been releasing more after the block in several situations. We had several RBs open for what would have been some decent yards, however Joey Dimes went with an open receiver further down the field..which he should....but that option is there if needed..
IMHO, Joey Dimes better passer. ZT better runner. Neither are bad options if you are creating a team.

Re: Will Joey set the Single Season Passing TD Record?
Zac and Taylor won a lot of games , duel threat .He may break all the passing records but that is only part of playing the position , a big part no question.I hope he ends up being better than both of them combined though and the next guy does even better.

I think Zac threw a better deep ball. Joey is darn good on the short/intermediate passes.
