Re: SBC Championship Game at Troy discussion
Going to be a good one. Will be hard to crack that Troy defense.
Both teams have played 4 common opponents (JMU, GSU, ULM and USM). We are 4-0 and Troy is 3-1 (loss to JMU). We are better offensively and they are better defensively (however, if you average the last 4 games our average is way better than our season average after turning the defense around).
Interesting to note that Sagarin favors Troy by 3.95, and Massey favors Troy by 3. This is basically home field advantage.
Got to get our minds right. Win the turnover margin and make few mistakes and we could sneak in and win the conference. Wonder what wrinkles we see in this weeks offense.

Re: SBC Championship Game at Troy discussion
I just get the sense that Troy is in cruise control since the end of September. They haven't played a team of our caliber since JMU. They are a team that limits mistakes and plays solid football. That's good enough for the SBC West. That's not good enough to beat us. App wins 31 - 24

We should start the game with a Hail Mary pass. Go ahead and set the tone.

I see where JMU is claiming SBC East Championship. I realize App has one more conference loss then they do, but considering we beat them at home that sort of evens it out...at least IMO....seems like this is the beginning (or continuation) of another App SB East rivalry.

Stink is our rival. JMWho is an important game on our schedule as it is a conference game.APP93 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 27, 2023 5:21 pmI see where JMU is claiming SBC East Championship. JMWho can pull an NC State (college world series a few years ago) if they like and that much of a snowflake....shout it out, print on shirts....does not make it true!!

They can claim to be one of our rivals if they win a few more games in the series. 2-9 vs us doesn’t cut it.APP93 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 27, 2023 5:21 pmI see where JMU is claiming SBC East Championship. Re: SBC Championship Game at Troy discussion
As long as we continue to challenge for conference championships, our biggest rival will be the school most often standing in our way. I have a hunch that school will be JMU.

Re: SBC Championship Game at Troy discussion
I thought that about GS when we first entered the SBC when GS was undefeated in conf play. But they fell off after that. We will see how JMU fairs in the coming years especially if they have a different coach soon.

Re: SBC Championship Game at Troy discussion
The main reason that App has had so much success is the fact that we kept the same coach for 24 seasons. That is how programs are truly successful. They get a good coach and keep them forever through good times and bad. I believe that Shawn Clark will take Appalachian to heights that it has never been before. Keep him long enough and we may win some more national championship games.

If App wins on Saturday, that "1" in JMU's "11-1" takes on an even sweeter significance for Mountaineer fans.APP93 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 27, 2023 5:21 pmI see where JMU is claiming SBC East Championship. There’s only “1” that is appropriate when it comes to JMU fans.Bootsy wrote: ↑Mon Nov 27, 2023 9:46 pmIf App wins on Saturday, that "1" in JMU's "11-1" takes on an even sweeter significance for Mountaineer fans.APP93 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 27, 2023 5:21 pmI see where JMU is claiming SBC East Championship. Re: SBC Championship Game at Troy discussion
If we win I don't even think they can seriously or jokingly claim a title. If Troy wins then they should proclaim they are the real champs since they beat Troy and they can claim they had just one hiccup while App had 3 of them. I think we beat Troy though. They have not seen a team like us but twice this year and they lost both of those games.Bootsy wrote: ↑Mon Nov 27, 2023 9:46 pmIf App wins on Saturday, that "1" in JMU's "11-1" takes on an even sweeter significance for Mountaineer fans.APP93 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 27, 2023 5:21 pmI see where JMU is claiming SBC East Championship.
