Facts are a stubborn thing. You might not like it, but JMU is the only win against a winning team. Clark has earned 202, no question in my mind. But he has not, in my opinion, earned an extension.bcoach wrote: ↑Wed Nov 29, 2023 1:58 pmHow do you say you can't stand SC and DG without.............appgrad95&97 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 29, 2023 1:47 pmWhile the last five games have been great, how much s#!t will I take for pointing out that JMU is the only win this season against an FBS team with a winning record? Sometimes facts also need context. I think Marshall, Georgia State and Georgia Southern had winning records prior to playing us. Also, only 2 teams in our conference have losing records. 12 of 14 teams with 500 or better records. Seems our conference is no cakewalk.appgrad95&97 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 29, 2023 2:13 pmFacts are a stubborn thing. You might not like it, but JMU is the only win against a winning team. I'm not detracting from those wins. I give full credit for the last five games. Everything looks so much better. I fully acknowledge how much better the conference is now. All I'm saying is that I believe that extending Clark at this point would be a mistake.Longrifle28 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 29, 2023 2:21 pmSometimes facts also need context. Re: #TeamClark
I think what bothers me the most at this point is that so much is being made by Clark and the media about how tough it has been for him and his family the last few months when we weren't doing well. I firmly believe that a very vocal 10% of the fans wanted Clark gone and another equally vocal 10% were blind to the struggles we were having and just arguing the other way. I feel like the bulk of the fan base, while concerned and certainly disappointed with some outcomes, were waiting to see how the season fully played out. Most predications for this season had us right about were we are, and I feel like some of you should really consider holding back on just spewing initial thoughts in the heat of the moment. Support the University and make our coaches/players jobs EASIER by supporting them, even if that support comes only in the form of being quiet for longer than you normally would.
I have not put myself in either of the 10% this year (despite having strong feelings) and I certainly don't know what will happen the last 2 games, but I can assure you, I will do my part to GMAFAS, support this team, and not contribute to the problem. I also hope SC understands that the majority of his fan base is supportive and wants him to have success and stay in Boone. You would not think this watching things this past week . . . don't listen to the 10% Coach, I know if feels like more but its not.

Re: #TeamClark
I don’t believe that an extension was ever discussed as a reward for 5-0 outside of some general rambling. His current contract is through 2026 I believe and as long as certain people stay on the job, there won’t be another one given for at least a couple years.appgrad95&97 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 29, 2023 2:31 pmI'm not detracting from those wins. Re: #TeamClark
That is not true. I would not have hired him in 2020. And I sure as heck would not have extended him at the end of 2021. I'm thrilled for the turnaround. And hope for the program that things are figured out. But I never called for him to be fired.

Re: #TeamClark
Serious question. What does that consistent upward trajectory look like? There is a ceiling and I don’t want to get folks salivating but this 2023 team could be scary good next year. Then what?

My take is , being at or near the top of the conference , year in and year out. That is just my read though, based on conversations.not a direct quote.

And that’s fair. So consistently performing at a high level is probably more appropriate.

Re: #TeamClark
My thoughts are that we are good enough to win the East every year. Win SBC Championship game more than we lose it. Win more bowl games than we lose...and every 3 to 5 years...be in serious mix for NY6.
Not sure we can make that happen,...but that would be elite at G5 level...and I would like to get there. We are past covid impact, mostly past Satt and Drink transition and depth...feel like we got maybe a year or so to get fully back in this area....a program needs goals.

Actually that is not all you were saying and that has been pointed out. I'll add you also were saying that DG is not very bright as he was " tricked" into an extension.appgrad95&97 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 29, 2023 2:31 pmI'm not detracting from those wins. Every team in the SBC East is bowl eligible and we are now SBC Champs. That's not nothing. This is what parity looks like. Teams knock each other off. Proud to be a MOUNTAINEER!

Re: #TeamClark
I don't think anyone expected an undefeated season this year. Best I recall preseason most on here had top out at 8-4. We got there. I will admit I was on the fire Clark Bandwagon at 3-4 and the horrendous start to the SoMiss game especially. Since then the turnaround has been phenomenal. I was worried that we may not make a bowl pre season. To be in the conference championship and bowl eligible is a great job by coaches and players. I will try to restrain myself going forward with my opinions on coaching.

Why??? - Why would you want to fire a coach mid-season when you can see how things can turn?
