Re: Bowl announcements for other schools
Funny how the guys in the portal seem more willing to play in the bowl game when it's held in Hawaii.

If a player enters the TP before the bowl I’m not sure I’d take them to the bowl game. Maybe a grad transfer.

I thought I read somewhere that McCall plans to play in the bowl game.

Re: Bowl announcements for other schools
He does, as do two other CCU players that have entered the portal. I wonder if they would have played in Montgomery?
Looks like Ark St. to Camellia and ULL to NOLA are pretty solid rumors. Looking more and more like the Cure bowl for App.

For a college player there isn't a better bowl than the Hawaii Bowl. Would I rather go to Hawaii for a week or Charlotte? It's got to cost a school like CCU a small fortune to fly a team to Hawaii. How much incidental cost do they incur?

Re: Bowl announcements for other schools
It costs the entire SBC, there is a revenue/cost sharing arrangement for the bowl games that the conference pays. When you see the bowl payout schedule the conference get that and uses it to cover the travel and other costs.Bigdaddyg1 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 01, 2023 8:26 amFor a college player there isn't a better bowl than the Hawaii Bowl. And most of the so-called payouts are based on the school selling their entire allotment of tickets. Don't sell the tickets? Don't get any money.Saint3333 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 01, 2023 8:30 amIt costs the entire SBC, there is a revenue/cost sharing arrangement for the bowl games that the conference pays. I'm clearly not a college football coach, but if I were, once that player hits the portal, clean out your locker and don't let the door hit you on the way out.

I think that it depends on the situation and how it transpired.Parks&RecAPP wrote: ↑Fri Dec 01, 2023 8:58 amI'm clearly not a college football coach, but if I were, once that player hits the portal, clean out your locker and don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Any chance we get the Myrtle Beach Bowl? Or do you all think it is very likely we get the Cure bowl?

Re: Bowl announcements for other schools
Interesting. So basically Coastal would probably buy out their allotment and let the conference eat the cost to send them to Hawaii? My brain doesn't compute that this is a wise decision for the Sunbelt. I don't know how charter prices compare to an individual but a round trip ticket has to be right at $2,000. That's got to be close to $150k round trip cost for 80 or so people.appst89 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 01, 2023 8:34 amAnd most of the so-called payouts are based on the school selling their entire allotment of tickets. How long are they there? Hotels, excursions and meals have to be well over $200k. Will there be 20,000 at the game? Do those expenses eat into what teams like App get from the pot?

I’d thought I saw that Hawaii Bowl wasn’t being played in Hawaii this year. Isn’t the Famous Toastery Bowl it’s replacement this year? Did I completely dream this scenario?

The Cure Bowl is where I would put my money on the likelihood. An App win tomorrow probably locks that up.appstcyclist wrote: ↑Fri Dec 01, 2023 9:36 amAny chance we get the Myrtle Beach Bowl? Or do you all think it is very likely we get the Cure bowl?

You are thinking of the Bahamas Bowl. That is being played in Charlotte.NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Fri Dec 01, 2023 9:44 amI’d thought I saw that Hawaii Bowl wasn’t being played in Hawaii this year. Isn’t the Famous Toastery Bowl it’s replacement this year? Did I completely dream this scenario?
